Saturday morning came and Jane woke up early as she could prepare herself early. She didn't want to be late on the first day of her job and at the same time, she was excited to see Celeste again.
Jane went through her morning meditation first to calm her mind and prepare her body for the day.
Though she was still disappointed as there's no improvement with her body when it comes to magic, it's not enough to ruin her mood.
After she was done, Jane cooked and ate her breakfast after. She then took a shower afterwards.
Even though it's a Saturday, Jane decided to still wear a disguise as she didn't want to give Phil a heart attack when he saw her real appearance.
Phil was used to seeing her on disguise and she had met her boss with the same disguise, too.
So it would be a very big deal if she would just go and reveal her true face to them.
Though they seemed to be trustworthy, she's not ready to answer the question of why she was disguising herself of being ugly.
That's very personal for the old Jane to share so it would be the same for her, too.
So as much as possible she wanted her transformation in a slow pace so she would have enough time to support her explanations later on.
Answering them with a mere 'glow-up' won't be satisfying. They're not that dumb to believe her easily.
Jane retained her contact lenses and her eye glasses.
She had been contemplating into buying a new wig or just dyeing her hair black with natural hair dye that she made in her kitchen.
She decided to do the latter and then trimmed the ends of her hair to a more manageable length which was on her waistline level.
She could wear this to school too and she could finally locked the heavy wig inside her closet.
She knew that Jane loved her hair so much because they're unique and they reminded her of her late mother greatly.
That's why she had decided to take good care of them.
She didn't know how many days the natural dye would last in her hair. At least the dye was safe to use and won't cause damage.
As for her skin, she used a much lighter foundation this time. Much lighter than what she had worn yesterday. But it's still far from the fair skin tone that every girl in school wanted to have.
She also put on simple make up on her face that would look good on the skin color that she was wearing.
She then grabbed a pair of jeans, her neutral colored oversized shirt which had a small flower embroidered on the left chest area. She tied her hair into a clean ponytail and then grabbed the black hat and put it on.
She completed her look with her white slip on shoes and white shoulder bag.
After she was done, she left her room and started her way towards the main entrance of their dormitory and to a couple of blocks where Phil would be waiting for her.
The students who were already out on the hallway stopped upon seeing an unfamiliar face coming from their dorm building.
Well, they didn't know that Jane had moved on the floor above them. They still thought that she was on her old block.
And every time she left her dorm room, it's just a coincidence that no one was in the hallway.
So this was the first time they had seen someone descending down the stairs from the top floor.
"Who is she?"
"Is she a transferee?"
"Maybe, I haven't seen her around the campus yet."
"More like this is the first time I have seen her here."
The female students could only talk to themselves but they could not bear to ask her.
"Wait, isn't her eye glasses familiar?" One of them asked.
"Wait, where have I seen that glasses?"
"Wrong! The right question should be who among the students in the entire university wear that kind of eye glasses?"
"What? Don't tell me..."
"No! Impossible." One of them didn't believe it.
"That's impossible. And besides, how can she even afford staying here? She's just a scholar. A poor."
"Right!"
And with that statement, the thought that she's Jane vanished in thin air.
Jane on the other hand heard them all but she didn't mind them.
The only concern that was on her head was that she seemed to have over done her make over.
She just hoped that Phil could still recognize her.
After a five minute walk, Jane reached on the agreed meeting place and she could already see the familiar black car being parked on the side.
She walked closer to it and when she was about to knock on the glass, the door on the passenger seat unlocked and was pushed open.
Jane took a peek to greet Phil who was sitting on the driver's seat.
But when she saw who was actually sitting there, she was shocked to see that it was none other than Edric McWilliams driving.
"Oh my gosh!" Jane yelped in surprise.
"Why? What's wrong. Are you disappointed that it's me?" Edric straightforwardly asked.
Jane got in the car and closed the door shut before she answered his question.
"I'm just surprised that it's you. I thought it would be Phil who will drive me to your place. You're the boss after all. You should be very busy." She said as she tried to put on her seat belt but failed miserably.
"Is that so? Well, Phil's busy. And I'm on a day off today. And besides, aren't you honored that it's actually your boss who will take you there?"
Seeing that she was struggling on putting on the seat belt, Edric leaned forward so he could do it for her.
Seeing that his face was so close to her, Jane suddenly froze on her seat. Her heart was pounding so hard inside her chest like it wanted to broke off from the bone confinement.
She didn't know why she reacted this way but she closed her eyes on reflex to calm herself. She could feel Edric was doing something but since her eyes were closed, she didn't know what it was.
On the other hand, seeing that Jane was closing her eyes shut, a part of Edric was a bit disappointed with this reaction that she was showing.
He then inserted the buckle in place and after that, he put on his seat belt and started the car.
As she felt them moving, Jane slowly opened her eyes and saw that they were already on the street.
She then looked down and saw the seat belt strapped in place across her upper body. She really felt bad as soon as she realized how weird she had reacted earlier.
To calm herself, she uttered a faint thanks and Edric had remained silent.
But then she realized that something was odd.
She could not help but to look at him while he was driving.
"What's wrong? Is there something wrong on my face?" He asked flatly.
Jane frowned but then looked down.
'How did he recognize that it is me, when all of my schoolmates could not even do it?' She asked herself.
"You're asking me, how?" He asked making Jane to be speechless.
"I don't know what's going on but I can hear your mind and I know you can hear mine, too." He answered the one on her head not the first.
Well, there's no point denying that since she had been caught red-handed a couple of times.
And she should be afraid of him just like her initial reaction on that night she had seen him for the first time but surprisingly, she no longer had it.
What replaced it was that she was intrigued at how he could read her mind.
However, she knew that she should not lay her guard down when around him.
She had to find any weakness in their mind link on her own because she would no longer have a privacy around him if this was the case.
"You're right. But how come I can't hear yours! This is unfair!" She whined.
"Because I know how to control mine." He explained making Jane to just sigh.
"That alone proves that you're indeed Jane. And besides, I have personally chosen all the items that you're wearing except for the eyeglasses. So I know that it's you when you came closer."
Hearing his explanation, Jane became quiet.
'Wait! What?!'
He picked everything himself? Does that mean including her underwear?
"Why? Is there a problem with that?" He innocently asked on her mind.
"Of course! There's a big problem!" She exclaimed.
"I have to make sure that everything I have picked would fit on you. And that you will use all of them. That way, it won't be a waste of money. And by how you look now, I can tell that you're starting to treat yourself. But that's not enough. You could do better." He said on his defense making Jane to be silent.
'Can you...can you read other people's mind, too?" She asked in her head knowing he could hear her.
"No. Unfortunately, only you. How about you?" He answered.
"Same." She lied.
The entire trip was quiet since none of them talked. Jane was also silent inside her head and she was thankful that he didn't disturb her head.
It was already almost nine in the morning when they arrived at his place.
Jane went out of the car and waited for him at the entrance so he would get inside ahead of her.
Edric got inside the house with Jane tailing behind.
As soon as she stepped her foot inside, a squeal welcomed her.
"Oh my Pwetty Sistew!" Celeste said as she run towards Jane.
"Princess!" Jane stoop down to pick her up and carried her in her arms.
"Pwetty Sistew, I miss you so much!" The little girl said.
Like on cue, Mrs. Shaw came out from the kitchen bringing a tray of freshly baked cookie.
"Sorry Cousin if I used your kitchen." Mrs. Shaw told her cousin.
"It's fine." Edric replied.
"Mommy! Pwetty Sistew's here!"
"Jane?" Mrs. Shaw asked as she could not recognize Jane.
"Hello, Mrs. Shaw." Jane greeted her.
"Wow! You look good! But I still prefer your-- Oops! Sorry." She immediately apologized after she almost slipped there.
Jane also heaved a sigh of relief.
"Anyways! Cookies everyone?" Mrs. Shaw offered to clear the atmosphere.
"I'm good. I have just eaten breakfast." She said and Edric also declined.
Celeste on the other hand took one cookie and ate it.
"Thanks, Mommy." She said.
"You're welcome baby." She replied with a smile.
Edric then showed them the study room where in Jane and Celeste would be having their classes. Mrs. Shaw also followed behind.
Edric then excused himself and went into his home office to do something else.
The study room was very spacious. It was painted with calm green color. Artwork designs essential for learning were posted on the wall.
The room also had a study table and a chair, a white screen with a black marker and eraser. A waiting projector, a service computer sitting on the computer table.
It also had a lot of books suitable for a preschooler up to seventh grader student. There were also reference books on the shelves.
Jane placed Celeste on the chair carefully before she took her notebook out of her bag which had the study plan that she especially made for Celeste.
"Thank you for doing this Jane." Mrs. Shaw spoke making Jane to look at her.
"After what happened, we no longer know whom we could trust to teach our daughter. So my husband and I agreed on my cousin's offer to make you as Celeste's tutor." She continued.
"Hehe. You don't have to thank me Mrs. Shaw. And besides, being with Celeste is like I'm not doing this as a job. She's the reason why I took this job. Well, except for the pay."
"Silly. Well, I hope my cousin gives you a better compensation. Don't worry, I'll add some too."
"No! He paid me more than enough! To the point that I feel like I'm receiving an easy money from him." She said.
"Hahaha. Then, that's a relief. Anyways, I'll leave Celeste in your care okay?" Mrs. Shaw said and walked to Celeste and gave the child a peck.
"Behave, okay? Don't be so naughty." She gently reminded.
"I am Mommy. Right Pwetty Sistew?"
"Yes, Celeste's a well-behaved child." Jane said with a smile.
After Mrs. Shaw left, Jane started their session. First, she asked Celeste if she already knew how to write her own name and the numbers and alphabets.
Celeste was already familiar with the alphabet and how to write them. Even her own name.
The child was also already fluent in foreign language but not much on the local language.
So Jane decided to start their lesson in there.
She showed illustrations which had the English description and the local language translation.
For Jane, it's okay to be fluent in other language but first and foremost, Celeste should learn to speak the mother tongue first.
That way, the child and the people around her won't have a hard time communicating.
And besides, before she would learn and embrace another culture, she should know what she had in her home country. So she would be proud on who she was when asked.
Their session started good and little Celeste was so serious in listening to Jane.
Jane on the other hand was surprised to learn that she was actually enjoying it.
Then, should she pursue teaching?
It's still too early to tell.
Jane and Celeste had a break to have lunch. Since Celeste was still a child, she gave one and a half hours for her afternoon nap.
They resumed by one-thirty in the afternoon.
It was already five-thirty when they finished the session and Celeste took another nap because she's tired.
Jane felt bad as she thought she had pushed the child so hard on the first day.
But Mrs. Shaw reassured that it's fine.
This was the first time she had seen Celeste so focused on something.
They tried to hire a tutor before but she was so naughty that her tutor would quit after the first session.
Since she was already done, Jane was about to look for Edric to inform him that she would be leaving but Mrs. Shaw stopped her.
Mrs. Shaw asked her to stay for the night.
"But it's not on my contract and Mr. McWilliams..."
"It's fine, I already asked his permission. And besides, Celeste will be sad to know that you're gone when she wakes up." Mrs. Shaw reasoned leaving Jane to agree to it.
