(Earth X)
While everyone else in the neighborhood was still sleeping, someone's day had already started.
Jane Sanchez was dragging her tired body as she walked out of her room and headed to the dorm's public bath to have a shower at three in the morning.
Her shift at the nearest bakery would start an hour after. She'd be staying there until eleven in the morning and she would immediately go to her University for her afternoon class until six in the evening and she'll be waiting tables on the nearby coffee shop for two hours before she'll go back to the dorm.
She could not afford to be late or else her boss would once again nitpick on her. Especially when he hated tardiness on his employees.
She could not afford to lose this job or else her mother and siblings who were living in another part of the country would surely be having a hard time.
At twenty-one, she had to joggle being a filial daughter to her mom and a good sister to her younger siblings at the same time a student.
Though they were not blood-related and she knew where her biological father was, she would never dare go back to them and beg for money.
She'd rather pretend that she's an orphan and live off with another family and never acknowledge her father should the latter show up and come for her.
When she was done, Jane then went out of the public shower with a piece of towel wrapped around her body and a small towel wrapped around her head hiding her platinum blonde hair in full display.
She would usually do this since she was confident that at three in the morning, no one would still be awake and would bump into her at the hallway going to her room.
When she was done, she entered her room and then changed into a pair of old comfortable jeans. She looked at her pretty face in the mirror and heaved a huge sigh when she saw her reflection.
She had grown up and almost resembled like her mother's face. No! She looked like the younger version of her mother.
Small shaped face with big round purplish eyes and long eye lashes. Perfectly arched eyebrows, small nose with high nose bridge and red plum lips. A beauty that could defeat Helen of Troy.
Her skin was as white as that of a porcelain and as soft and smooth like that of silk.
She sighed when she saw the feather-shaped like birthmark on her left chest right above her left chest.
She sighed one more and opened the drawer and she pulled a bag full of brush and make up.
Jane then took one of the brushes and deliberately applied the brown face powder on her neck to make herself looked tan.
She then continued it to her face and even drew some fake freckles on the area closer to her nose on both sides.
When she was done, she looked totally different especially after she put a fake curly wig on and putting her brown contact lenses to hide her purple eyes from the world.
Still, if one would look at her closely, her fine features were still distinguishable especially her nose and v-shaped chin. Good thing she looked ugly at first glance so no one dared to pay any attention to her at school or in her workplace.
She changed into her baggy plain orange shirt and her boyfriend jeans.
Ever since she came here in the capital city, she never got the chance to buy any new clothes for herself. Almost a quarter of her money was spent for those cosmetic products while she kept the other quarter for herself and the half of her earnings for her family in town.
She only have five pair of clothes all in all and that's what she kept on wearing for four years now.
Eight months from now, she'll be graduating in this University and she'll have a better chance to apply in big companies for a job.
That way, she'll help her mother more.
She took her wallet and then opened it to look at the photo containing her inspiration one more time.
Sighing deep inside, she placed it back to her shabby bag.
She's now ready to go after she wore her old shoes and put her snapback on and her baseball cap.
She then went out and took her bicycle which she had parked on the designated bike parking area on their dorm.
Jane hummed as she tried to comfort herself.
As she started to place her foot on the pedal, she started to hum a happy song her Mom Ann used to sing for her and her little siblings.
In just fifteen minutes, she arrived at the bakery and then took the keys from the pocket of her bag and opened the back door.
When she was done, she parked her bike and loced it safely in place.
She then went inside and turned on the switch. Looking at the silver table at the center of the room with sheets of stainless plates piled in row on the shelf beside it which already had the ready to bake dough sitting on it.
She then opened her bag and took the apron and her upper white uniform. When she was done changing, she opened the bag of flour and started sifting it. Then she started mixing the ingredients together to make bread.
At the same time, she started putting the raw bread on the oven.
Yes, she's the assigned baker of this bakeshop that was why she should not be late or else there would be no freshly baked breads for the patrons to buy early in the morning.
She didn't mind. She like baking anyways. Baking was hers and her mom's hobby back then.
At six in the morning, she already finished baking the bread that was on the plates earlier and was ready to be served to the customers.
Then her colleagues came to the bakery and started helping her. They then placed the bread into the tray and displayed it in the counter for the customers to buy.
Though she was there, no one bothered to greet her. Jane didn't mind as she was already used to it.
Jane didn't realize that it was already eleven in the morning and she had to get ready and change so she could go to the University.
She still had to study as they're going to have a quiz about their lessons last time.
Changing back into her clothes, she gotten herself ready to leave.
She grabbed a piece of bread and eat it for lunch.
She then rode her bike going to her school and ate it while pedaling her bike.
She was closer to the school when an unexpected accident happened.
A car was speeding down the highway and a mother screamed when she saw her child running towards the highway where the car was going.
Jane saw this and she bit her lip and then she sighed as she didn't hesitate to pedal faster towards the child and when she was closer, she jumped out of the bicycle and grabbed the child and push her to the side walk.
It was already too late when she realized that the car was only a few inches away from her and then unfortunately hit her.
She felt her body numb and she heard a buzzing sound in her ear. The next thing she felt was an unbearable pain as she was coughing a lot of blood.
She could hear the loud screaming from the by standers calling for help.
"Call an ambulance!" The mother of the child then touched Jane as she tried to comfort her that help was on the way.
Jane smiled as she could read the genuine worry on the mind of the mother.
"It's...o-kay. I... go b-ack and com-fort yo-ur ba-by. She's cry-ing as well." Jane said as she smiled.
She knew she won't make it. She could feel that her bones were broken. It would be a miracle if she'd survive. If she did, she would surely be disabled for life given the severe damage she had suffered in her body.
She could feel her eyes voluntarily closing and she could feel her subconsciousness slowly fading away.
If this would be her last breath, then the only regret she had now was she would not be able to continue helping her family.
She really felt sorry. She prayed that if she was given a chance, she would want to live again.
***
She didn't know how long she had been sleeping but she felt her body so sore because of lying in bed for a long time.
When her eyes opened, a beeping sound of the machines hooked on her body greeted her.
Violet furrowed her brows as she felt that she was in an odd environment.
Before she could even ask what was going on, a sharp pain hit her head making her to frown and hiss at the same time.
Then the machine beeped and a group of people in uniformed white dress came into her side.
"Where am I?" She mumbled.
"Miss Sanchez? You are in a hospital. You suffered from a car accident three months ago. It is already a miracle that you are able to stay in a vegetative state and miraculously managed to wake up today." The doctor explained calmly while checking on her.
"Hospital? Car? Sanchez?" She asked as she could not understand even a single thing at all. Those were foreign words to her and why were they addressing her with someonelse's name.
"Hospital, the place you're in at the moment. It's where we treat sick patients. Car, is a car. It's what people used to bring them in their destination. Sanchez. That's your name. Your name's Jane Sanchez based on your identity card." The doctor patiently explained to her.
It was common for patients who suffered from head trauma to be disoriented when they woke up but if this got prolonged, she'd check if she's having an amnesia.
Maybe because she was trying to remember everything, another wave of headache came forth to her and this time it was unbearable that she cried in pain.
"Ah!!" She cried as she held her head in between her two palm. Then suddenly, flashes of memories came forth inside her mind all at once. But these were unfamiliar to her at all.
The rate of the images came at full speed that she almost wanted to vomit because she felt so dizzy.
She closed her eyes as she thought it was helpful rather than when she kept her eyes open.
When the images stopped flashing, she then realized that those images were actually memories that were not hers. And that she was not in the same world.
That's right, in the memory she had just recalled, she's named as Jane Sanchez. And she was living in a planet named Earth X.
Then, what the Hermit told her was true! She had indeed transmigrated in this world and had taken over another person's body!
Because of this she felt happy all over. But then she felt sad as she felt sorry that the soul of this body had to go to give way to her.
And she could recall how the owner of this body died before she had taken it over.
She then frowned when she felt like she was still seeing herself in this owner's memory.
"Mirror." She spoke softly which was so soft that the doctor could barely manage to hear it.
Though she was curious why this patient of hers was asking for a mirror, she still asked one of the nurses to go and get it for her anyways.
"Here."
Violet grabbed it and gasped when she saw her reflection on the mirror.
"Don't worry, the accident didn't cause any serious damage on your face except from the scratches which are completely healed now." The doctor explained oblivious to Violet's shocked expression and continued.
"You're such a beautiful young lady! Why did you even hide it with those thick make up?" The doctor praised and at the same time, asked her curiously.
Everyone agreed in the room.
The doctor's question made Violet to snap back to reality. Then she recalled Jane's reason why she hid her beauty from the world.
When she was little, she had to run away to escape from her vicious step-mother. When her adoptive mother Ann Sanchez adopted her and named her Jane, she agreed that Jane's appearance was so eye catchy that it might attract the bad guys so she decided to dye them in black.
Unfortunately, it would turn back to its original color after a week. Afraid that the constant dyeing would damage her hair, she bought Jane a wig to wear instead whenever there were other people.
Also, she had to paint her skin tan so that the kids at school would not continue asking her if she's indeed Ann Sanchez's biological daughter. They had moved in places because of that.
Ann had a caramel colored skin while she had the porcelain white colored skin. So it would only attract more attention should she show her real skin color.
And her eye color was the most important thing to hide aside from her hair. They had the same eye color as her mother. Her mom once told her that only their family had this eye color in the world.
"Miss Sanchez are you okay? Do you feel any discomfort?" The doctor's constant questions had snapped her back to reality.
"I am fine. Don't worry about me. Ahm, does my family know of what happened to me?" Violet asked as she knew it was the right thing to do.
Jane loved them more than her life and she vowed that for Jane's sake, she would treat them better, too.
"Yes. In fact, your mother have left to get some change of clothes for you." The doctor explained.
The doctor sighed in relief when she thought Violet was not suffering from amnesia at all. She then excused herself and informed Jane with Violet's soul that she would be transferred to a private room from the ICU.
Thanks to Jane's memories, she could now understand what the doctor was talking about.
