Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Going Back To School

(Edited)

Violet woke up early in the morning so she could prepare early.

She wanted to decline having breakfast with them as she was afraid to see that man again but Mrs. Shaw insisted that she should join them.

Fortunately, the man was no longer there and also the General didn't join them for breakfast as he returned to the military base during midnight.

Gab and Jake were there, too.

"Gab and Jake would be going back to the university this morning. Why don't you go with them? It's hard to take a cab from here Jane." Mrs. Shaw told her.

Violet wanted to go back to the dorm on cab. She didn't want the students to see her riding a luxurious car. It would be troublesome.

Could she really do it though? Though she had Jane's memories, everything was totally new to her. So she could not help not to be nervous.

At least Mrs. Sanches had dropped her off on the dorm gate yesterday.

"Don't worry, they won't drop us near the campus but in a few blocks away." Jake told her, calming her nervous mind.

"Okay." She finally compromised.

"Good."

After breakfast, they then boarded the car with Jake and Violet on the backseat while Gab and the chauffeur on the front seat and driver seat respectively.

The entire trip was pin drop silent as no one dared to start a conversation.

Violet was busy looking at the view outside while Jake and Gab were on their own devices.

The silence continued until they were near to their stop.

"Could you please pull over on the corner?" She told the chauffeur and the car stopped when she get there. It's still two blocks away but it's better.

She made sure that no one familiar was around before she got out of the car.

"Thank you." She politely said and opened the door then went out.

She closed the door and walked towards the direction of her dorm.

She greeted the cleaning lady on the entrance of the dorm when she walked in.

She used her keys to open the door of her room and collected her school bag.

She still had to go to the Director's Office to make a report. She was absent for a long time so she had the decency to at least fully explain what happened.

Though Mrs. Sanchez assured her that she had retained the scholarship, she just wanted to make sure and checked it herself.

Jake told her that Wednesday until Friday would be the finals for this semester. Some professors might not let her take their exams. So she had to convince them. And if she failed, she would repeat this semester's subjects to the next semester.

And in return, she won't be able to graduate at the expected schedule. Unless she could make a miracle.

When she walked along the school premises, everyone was staring at her weirdly.

Majority were surprised reactions while the rest were mocking and disdain.

"So it's true that the freak of this school have come back! Grim Reaper should be afraid to collect her soul given how ugly she is." One of the mean girls whom in Jane's memory was the campus queen bee started to humiliate her.

"Yeah right! I mean look at her?! Aren't she ashamed showing again in front of us? Even death declined her of entry to the gates of hell!" The other female student of the group echoed making everyone to laugh.

This had been their usual routine. Mocking Jane's appearance every morning.

They had been wanting to expel Jane out of the campus claiming that the scenery in their school was ruined because she existed. But because of her high academic results every exam, they could not force the School Director to throw her out.

Well, it was Jane's score who helped the school have a good academic reputation together with few other people whom they always labeled as freak nerds.

So their plan would always fail.

They tried framing her too but Jane found ways to escape it.

They tried to threaten her by arranging guys to harm her but she had outrun them.

Well, aside from Jane's special gift, she had developed a skill in running.

She had been running away from those types of people whose intention was to harm her.

Violet ignored them just like what Jane would usually do but this time, instead of looking down, she walked with her face straight and focused upfront.

But this group had become unhappy because of what she did.

"The audacity to ignore you, Stephanie?" One of the female student accompanying the campus queen bee scoffed in disbelief. She wanted to add fuel to the fire.

"Don't worry. She won't escape from us this time. I promise that she won't have a come back here in school." Stephanie vowed.

She really wanted to get back at Jane for their failed attempts in the past.

Meanwhile, Violet continued climbing the stairs until she reached the sixth floor where the Director's Office was, his secretary welcomed her and was glad that she's finally back.

Mrs. Cruz was a sweet middle-aged woman who never showed any judgement on her appearance.

In this school, only her, the Director, the school physician and a couple of good-natured instructors treated her like a person. The rest treated her like trash.

"How are you Student Jane? Are you sure you're fine to go back?" Mrs. Cruz asked.

"I'm fine Mrs. Cruz. I have slept and rested enough, haven't I? It's already exam week and I hope that I could still take and pass so I won't lose my scholarship and repeat subjects." Violet told Mrs. Cruz.

"Yeah. Is that what you wanted to talk about with the Director?"

"Yes. Is he busy?" Shen cautiously asked.

"Oh, he's just talking to someone inside." Mrs. Cruz told her.

"Okay. I'll just wait here then." She told her. She then chose the couch near the window in the waiting area.

Minutes later, the door opened and a man walked out.

Sadly, Violet was busy looking outside that she didn't see who the man was. Because if she did, surely, she would immediately ran away and hide until the man was gone.

"Thank you Mr. McWilliams. We're looking forward to working with you next semester." Mrs. Cruz told the mam named McWilliams.

"Thank you Mrs. Cruz."

As soon as the man spoke and Violet heard his voice, she got tensed immediately.

The voice was really familiar!

It took her a lot of courage to look back behind her to see the man's face and when she did she's already too late. The man was no longer there.

Mrs. Cruz saw her reaction and could not help not to ask her.

"Is there something wrong Student Jane?"

Violet stood up and approached Mrs. Cruz.

"Ahm, that man, who is he?" She asked.

"Oh, Mr. McWilliams?"

"Yeah. Him." Violet nodded.

"Oh, he'll be teaching in this school starting next semester. Mrs. Fin was on maternity leave. So he'll be substituting her." Mrs. Cruz explained the situation.

"Oh." Violet's mouth opened but she could not utter a word.

"Do you know him?" Mrs. Cruz curiously asked her.

"No." Violet firmly said.

"Oh okay. Well, Director Lopez is available now. You can enter his office."

"Thanks Mrs. Cruz." Violet thanked her and went to the door and made a knock.

"Come in!" A faint voice from the inside echoed.

She twisted the knob and prepared herself as she entered the room.

Inside the room, a senior man with his glasses on was reading on some important school related documents when she entered.

Feeling someone else's presence inside the room, Director Lopez then looked up and saw Violet who was looking at him with her usual serious expression.

"Goodmorning Director!"

"Jane, welcome back!" He said as he put down the papers and removed his eye glasses and placed it on top of his desk.

Then, he adjusted himself on the swivel chair and looked at Violet.

"Thank you Director Lopez!" She politely replied.

"How have you been doing? We really thought that the accident would make us to lose you." He said with sincere worry.

"Oh. I'm fine now Director. I'm sorry if the accident made all of you to worry about me. But I'm back now, am I not? And I am here to discuss my remaining days here."

Seeing that the director was in all ears, Violet sighed and continued.

"I want to graduate next semester as scheduled Sir. I know I come back late, but I promise to do good in this week's exam should I be allowed to take it. All I ask is the chance and time for me to study the rest of the days prior to the exam. Then, for my lacking projects, I'll talk to them later. I'll have it done next week. All I'm asking is please let me take the exam." She finished.

Director Lopez looked at Violet seriously making the latter to be a little anxious.

Then, a smile showed on the man's face and Violet heaved a sigh.

"I know this day would come. Don't worry, I am also prepared for this day. Sure, you can still take the exam like the others. However, make sure to talk to your professors one by one so they can give you the list of the things you needed so you can successfully enroll next semester."

"Thank you Director Lopez!" She flashed her most sincere smile to the man.

"You don't have to thank me Jane. You're a good student and I'm a hundred percent sure that you can turn the tables around and will ace this exam! It would be such a shame if we will prevent you from taking. You deserved it!"

She then bid goodbye to Director Lopez and then walked out of his office with a bright smile on her face.

"Seems like you got yourself a good news?" Mrs. Cruz asked her.

"En! Director Lopez reassured me that I can take the exam!" She happily said.

"That's a relief then. I won't hold you back, you still have to study hard."

"En! Bye Mrs. Cruz!" She bid goodbye.

Violet then took her course syllabus per subject and used it as a guide for her studies.

She visited her locker for the first time to get her books so she could start studying.

However, when she got there, Jane's locker was no longer there and someone else's name was there.

Violet made a trip to the property administrator to ask about it.

When she arrived at the office, she was told that since she was absent for a long time, someone else used her locker.

"What about my things?" She asked the custodian.

"We asked them to send it back to your dorm. Did you not see it when you arrive yesterday?" Sarcasm was evident on the latter's tone.

'How would I know? No one told me about it. You won't see me here have I known it beforehand.' She wanted to say it back like that. However she knew it was wrong to talk back to a senior faculty of the school.

"I'm sorry nobody told me about this beforehand. Thank you for the information." She softly said.

She had no other choice but to go to the library and use the same book available there.

When she entered the library, Violet was amazed to see a lot of books stocked in the shelves which were arranged in rows.

This was like the Magic Archives Building in her world.

She knew from first sight that she would love this place as she loved reading and a place surrounded with books was like heaven to her!

She took one book and she was amazed that all of the characters written in there, though new to her, she could understand them. She was also able to write the letters of the alphabet too even if she had just tried it for the first time.

She thought that maybe because she had Jane's memory and learned knowledge that's why she was able to do so.

"Sire!" A senior man wearing a head butler's suit rushed and entered the man's expensive home study.

Inside, a senior man who looked like on his early with platinum hair and emerald green eyes and wearing a very expensive suit looked up to see the man who dared to disturb his reading.

"What is it Nicolai? If it's not good news, you better go and leave!" The man impatiently told the steward.

"Sire, we have found the Young Madame!"

As he heard this, the man's eyes widened as waves of joy and excitement rushed through his system.

"Where is she?"

"Sire, please don't get shocked by what I'm about to tell you. The Young Madame's dead." He tried to say it as slow as possible to not make the man in front of him be shocked. Unfortunately, the same result happened.

"Sire!"
