Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 - Birthday

Amabel's POV

After last night, I didn't have the strength to get out of bed. I didn't want to. Especially now that I'm getting older. Yay, happy birthday to me...

I took my phone and saw the many texts from Trevor.

Trevor (Yesterday 23:03): Can I come over? I need to see you.

Trevor (Yesterday 23:10): Amabel? I'm sorry. I want to see you.

Trevor (Yesterday 23:45): I'm sorry, Amabel. Can we talk tomorrow?

And then other texts from people congratulating me on my birthday.

Mom (Today 06:35): Good morning my baby girl. Happy birthday to you. I want to see you later. How does five o'clock sound?

Me (Today 06:42): Thank you, Mama. Sure. I'll get off from work early today. I'll bring cupcakes

Mom (Today 06:45): See you later, my beautiful baby girl. I love you x

Me (Today 06:46): Love you more, Mama x

I sat up straight to see Gwen bringing a tray in my room. "Good morning, birthday girl." She placed the tray on my bed and gave me a hug. "Thanks, Gwen. You didn't have to."

"Are you kidding? You do this for me every year on my birthday. And I got you this," she said, handing me a present. It's huge. I put it down on the side of my bed and hugged her. She smiled and we got to talking and laughing.

She made me eggs, bacon and toast. I love this girl. What did I do to deserve such a good best friend? She saved me so many times without me needing to ask. She knew when I needed something and she was always there to give it to me.

I got into the shower, brushed my teeth and then got dressed. "I'm taking you to work today, no arguments."

It didn't even matter. I didn't want to argue. I got everything I needed and walked with Gwen to the elevator. We went down to the basement and got her car. She drove me to work and played music until the speakers vibrated. I loved it. I felt so free the faster she drove.

She stopped at the front of the building. We got out and Caleb opened the door.

"Good morning, Caleb. This is my friend, Gwen. Gwen, this is Caleb."

"Hi," she said. I guess she and Oliver are a thing. I'm a terrible friend. I never even asked her how things were going with her and Oliver. "What's the occasion? I've never seen you here?" Caleb asked.

"It's Amabel's birthday. So I drove her to work."

"It's your birthday?" Caleb asked.

"Yeah, kinda," I said with a chuckle.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know," he said. Why is he sorry?

"It's okay. Really. I have to get going. The boss is almost here," I said and walked inside. I greeted the girls again and into the elevator. "Today will be better than yesterday," Gwen said.

"Of course," I said.

"Yesterday is history," Gwen began and then we both said, "tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it's called present."

That's my best friend, ladies and gentlemen. You break her heart, I'll break your face. That's how we protect each other. When the elevator doors opened we stepped outside to be greeted by Ella with cupcakes in her hands. "Happy birthday," she said and hugged me.

"Thank you, Ella. This is too much. They look so beautiful," I said. I didn't want to eat the cupcakes. They were too pretty. They were decorated with purple, pink and blue butterflies. How can I eat that?

"Don't be silly. I didn't forget what you did for my birthday. This is me only returning the favor," she said and smiled.

I walked to my desk and found a huge box wrapped with a note. I never did this for Ella.

"Ella, you got me this too?" I asked her.

"What are you talking about?" she asked me and came around the corner.

"I'm talking about that," I said. She looked at it and then at Gwen.

"I didn't get you that. It's not from me, Bells," she said. Who then? Mom?

I took the note. It was in an expensive-looking envelope. It looked like the envelope was dipped in gold. I opened it and found a letter.
