After asking around some more and watching the news in the town hall, I finally managed to understand the situation we were in.
A giant asteroid, just barely smaller than the country itself, crashed into Scotland, wiping out everything and everyone. However, Scotland wasn't even our biggest problem.
Shockwaves from the impact were sent flying down south, hitting the northern cities in England. To make matters worse, N●SA sent out a hurried report that more were on their way towards earth. For now, the Government has strongly advised us to stay put.
When I explained this to Joey and Ellie, Joey immediately decided to move down further south.
"We have to keep moving, we didn't run too far" Joey argued.
"No! That's a horrible idea. Who knows where the next asteroid will land?" Ellie protested.
They both give solid arguments; We could stay put but there's no guarantee we will be safe that way. But we also don't know if it's safe to move either.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door.
"Hello? Anyone in here?" A voice questioned.
"Yea, Who's there?" I replied.
"Hi, just me." The voice said as their head popped round the corner. It was the man who helped me out earlier when I was trying to find out what was happening.
"Oh hi! What's up?"
"Well, I was listening in to your conversations about whether to move or not." He explained.
"I think I can help you guys out".
We looked at him, then looked at each other.
"How?" Joey questioned.
The man holds up a pair of keys and smiles.
"I own a van. Tomorrow night, I will be taking some people out of town down south." He says, smiling at us trying to be friendly.
Joey stares at him intensely, "No thank you".
The man pressures us some more.
"Come on, we're not too far from where you came from. This town is going to ransacked by gangs and raiders sooner or later. Look at how much people are panicking."
After pressuring us some more, Ellie eventually asks
"Where and When?".
His smile widens.
"The parking lot next to the convince store, 6 o'clock, be there or get left behind." He says as he exits through the front door, leaving us on our own once again in the empty room.
We sat awkwardly for a while, all of us caught in our own thoughts; Then finally, Joey stood, and broke the silence, "Well, for now, let's get some sleep."
"Yea… I guess we should." I agreed.
The following night, we arrived at the parking lot the man had agreed upon.
There were others there, barley enough to fill the van.
"Glad you could make it" The man says, his grin as wide as ever...
