Adelaide's P.O.V
Mr Riccardo looked at me with so much hope in his eyes that I couldn't reject him. Not when I was already guilty about not being able to help him out with work today. But, right now, at this very moment where I am walking back home with Carson, I just wanted to bang my head on one of these pillars.
"You should've just said no. I'm sure you knew you would end up acting like this."
and as always Carson was preaching.
"It's pointless. I can't even change it so let's not talk about it and make your friend feel bad, okay?" -I lifted my head that was hung low in frustration and glared at him with a friendly smile.
"Yes sure but, why do you not want to work with Di-? de? what was his name again?"
"Dylan." -I responded in a low annoyed tone.
"Yes! Dylan! Why do you not want to work with him?!"
"You oddly are very curious about this." -his eyes were glancing at me mischievously making me question his curiosity.
"Why wouldn't I be? I mean you're the weird one right now."
'I truly am.' - I said to myself.
"Well get in first and I'll enlighten you." -I replied to Benjie while unlocking my apartment's front door. I was physically so drained that I doubted if I could even make it home with these heels. The moment I entered home, my body automatically reacted so fast as though I was manually designed to remove my painful white heels and coat and rush to the sofa.
"Freshen up first Addie. Don't be so dirty!" -came Benjie mommy's voice as she headed to my washroom.
I groaned with pleasure when my back got comfortable on the sofa. The rest my spine deserved was finally here.
"Haaah!" -I sighed in pleasure while I stretched my body.
Ending my comfortable moment came the guy who swore to never let me be at peace.
"Freshen up or you won't get anything for dinner." -came his voice as he sat on the dining table using his phone probably ordering us something.
Sluggishly I lifted my sore body from the heavenly cloud-like sofa and went to grab my nightwear before heading for the washroom. The only thing that kept me going and completing what I had to, was dinner. I remember eating lunch but it felt less than a midnight snack and now my body was famished, even though I ate Benjie's cake at the cafe.
I was finally out and walking towards the Island when Benjie got up and headed to the door. The food was here! and boy was it delivered at flash's speed! Smiling like a possible maniac, I put my untangled hair, which took hours to get to what it was now, in a bun and sat on the chair by Island impatiently. Carson came back to the Island with two brown paper bags in his hands, one of which he placed in front of me. I peeped in to see only one box inside which I eagerly removed and unwrapped only to find different colours of green, red and white.
My smile instantly fell when I saw what Benjamin had ordered.
"This ain't mine, right?" -I spoke while flashing him a smile and being optimistic.
"If it weren't yours, why would I give it to you in the first place?" -Carson spoke, trying hard not to burst out laughing as he too unwrapped his box.
"Benjamin, why must you hurt me so?" -I was pretty sure my eyes held the feelings of betrayal.
"I haven't hurt you in any way Adelaide, just eat before it's cold and tasteless." -he said digging into his food.
"Benjamin, it's a salad. They're tasteless whether cold or not." -was I crying? No. My voice came out hurt because I'm whining and I'm hurt. Why wouldn't I be hurt when my best friend just stabbed me in the back.
"I know. But, it's late you shouldn't have anything heavy with you're already weak stomach. See I'm even accompanying you, so don't whine like a kid and eat." -as he ended his sentence he placed the fork in my hand.
"Don't act like you're suffering with me when you like salad." -I glared at him and soon started eating as the zoo in my stomach reminded me of its existence.
"So aren't you going to spill the beans on Dylan?" -Benjamin spoke as he reached for a glass of water.
"Ah, him." -I replied while simultaneously stabbing the cherry tomato I despised.
"Yes, him." -He spoke as he placed a glass of water near me and went back to sitting opposite to me.
"As ironic as it could get. I and him get along worse than you and I. Like isn't it surprising? I thought I had the urge to kill only you but, now, someone beats you at it!" -I spoke as I jabbed the juicy piece of chicken breast and put it in my mouth along with lettuce.
Benjamin burst out laughing for some reason. I looked at him like he was going mad. He was gasping for air and his eyes had gotten teary.
"You fine?" -I questioned him while refilling his glass with water.
He gasped for air and dramatically wiped away the tear from his cheek which hadn't even fallen.
"I'd love to know why you're so displeased by him." -he spoke before chugging on his refilled water.
"Well long story short. He gets on my nerves." -I replied not wanting to be Benjie's celebrity gossip magazine which had an endless list of questions.
"It's a relief that he wouldn't meet you in the long run." -he ended his sentence with a sarcastic laugh and continued eating.
"Hey! I'm not that bad!" -I refuted while pointing the fork at him.
"You sure aren't but, you aren't that good either."
"That's cuz you're annoying."
"My point, exactly. Imagine the poor man, who you say gets on your nerves, spends time with you, getting on your nerves. He'd want to run away with the way you would end up treating him. After all, it's because it's me that you have a stable friend around."
I didn't like the look of pride on his face. And so I smirked and went on to say.
"You think it's easy handling a whacko like you? It's cause it's me that you still have a long-time friend."
Benjie cringed as he heard me speak.
"So that's how obnoxious I sounded?" -he asked with his cringing face.
"YES!" -I spoke as I answered his question and also exclaimed at having finished my sad tasting salad which oddly didn't taste as sad as it should have.
I quickly cleaned up after us as Benjie was preparing to leave.
Grabbing the trashbags I followed after Benjie to drop him off till the recycling section which was luckily at a part in the direction of his house.
"It's late, get going and say hi to your family in my stead." -I spoke as the stubborn man wanted to watch me recycle before walking away.
"Okay, okay. Be careful alright? and try not to trip on air. See you tomorrow." -He replied while waving at me. I flashed him an annoyed smile and murmured under my breath.
"I don't trip on air because I want to." Saying so I huffed out air from my nose and quickly finished recycling before heading off to my apartment.
As I looked up to see the beautiful night sky and bright full moon.
"Hopefully tomorrow will be better." I spoke to myself and sighed before continuing to walk back home and finally take some rest.
