With how their day started and looked like it was ending, hearing Helen say I love you was the last thing he expected to hear. For the first time in his life, his cold heart felt warm all of a sudden.
"You know…I still need air to breathe Eli," she panted, pulling away to catch her breath. Did he think she was a fish or something where she wouldn't need air? "Just give me a second before I pass out. I might really need that blood you were offering me now."
Eli silently watched Helen pant like she was running a marathon. A clear sign that she did indeed need blood.
