Two days later, Helen welcomed Mary and Samuel to the city to have lunch with her and Eli, and to possibly have the girls over because they missed Mary's cooking. Instead of seeing this situation as a negative, Helen decided to use it to make things appear as though they were normal. Anyone who had questions about Mary and Samuel seemingly not visiting her frequently should be satisfied seeing her parents visiting.
"This is your pay for visiting and a little something extra," Helen said, handing Samuel an envelope of money. She was driving them to Eli's home for what was supposed to be a quiet dinner. A gut feeling warned her it wouldn't be.
"This is too much Helen. You don't need to give us more than what was agreed upon in the deal," Samuel replied counting the money. He felt uneasy whenever she gave them more than she was supposed to. The regular payment was already much more than they needed.
