Sabrina woke up with a huge headache. She looked around the room. It was spacious and white everywhere. The room didn't smell like hers and the bed was huge. "Where am..ohh." She remembered she was at Daniel's house. She came down from the bed, but fell back because of her headache. She took deep breaths before standing up, managing to go to the living room.
She was still massaging her forehead, when she saw Josh sitting with a red haired lady on the couch, with Daniel sitting on another chair. They looked like they were discussing something. She realized she slept till evening.
Daniel saw her standing looking at them. "Hey, you finally woke up."
Josh turned back and saw her. "How are you?" He held her hand, for her to sit on the hand of the couch.
Her head was hurting too much for her to notice how soft his hand was. She would have been red by now. "Im having headache." She sat on the hand of the couch still massaging her forehead.
She didn't even notice the lady beside Josh, until she opened her eyes. Her eyes were wide open when she saw the lady. "Jessica?" She got up and went to meet her, squatting in front of her. She held Jessica's hands. "Where have you been? How are you? Where did you go? I did not even collect your number." She had taken a liking to Jessica the first day she saw her. Jessica was a cool, and calm person.
Jessica smiled at the series of questions, Sabrina didn't allow her to answer one. "Calm down Sabrina. I met Daniel at a store. He brought me here. I couldn't reach you guys because, I couldn't get your numbers, especially you Sabrina."
"I'm sorry I forgot to collect your number. I would have called you. But you are okay right?"
Jessica smiled and nodded. "I am fine Sabrina. Don't worry."
Sabrina nodded before she got up to sit down on the hand of the couch beside Josh.
Jessica waited for Sabrina to sit before she started talking. "Its been a week and some days since my mom died." She paused for a while. Josh, Sabrina and Danielle understood her pain. She continued. "It's terrible that she was bu-burnt."
Sabrina felt like knives were stabbing her heart. She tried hard not to remember because, she always felt pain. Mrs Williams was always there for her.
"So, i want us to bury her tomorrow." Jessica sniffed and wiped her tears.
"Tomorrow?" Josh asked. They haven't prepared anything, as they were waiting for Jessica's decision.
"Don't worry Josh. The reason why I was away was because, I was preparing for her burial." Jessica smiled at them. She was happy that her mother had people who were concerned about her. "I have everything under control. We will bury her tomorrow. Us all okay. Thank you all."
Daniel felt really sad. He wished Mrs Williams was still alive. She was like a mother to them all. Truly, good things don't last. "We will bury her tomorrow. This is the least we can do."
"Okay then if you say so Jessica." Sabrina said.
"We will support you In this." Josh assured her.
Mrs Williams was finally going to be buried. Her death was really terrible. She was a mother figure to three people who had none. And her daughter who she had issues with before she died.
Sabrina realised she had been in Josh's house since afternoon; when she saw she was still in her outfit she wore for her interview. She bade Josh and Daniel good bye and left the house with Jessica.
They were walking together, talking about things. Jessica was glancing at Sabrina continuously and smiling. Sabrina noticed it. She was confused as to why Jessica was looking at her like that.
"Is everything okay Jessica?"
Jessica looked at her and smiled. "It's nothing." She removed her hair from her face caused by the breeze and giggled.
Sabrina was already feeling weird beside Jessica. She held Jessica's shoulder which made them stop walking. Jessica looked at her confused as to why they stopped walking.
"Jessica, please talk to me. Are you okay?"
Jessica chuckled. She could see that Sabrina was thinking she wasn't okay. "I'm fine. I'm just thinking about you and Josh."
Sabrina was puzzled. What made her think of that?. "What do you mean?"
"For how long have you guys been dating?" Jessica asked.
Sabrina was surprised that Jessica thought of them that way. "D-dating?"
"Yes?" Jessica wondered why Sabrina reacted like that. Is not bad if she finds out.
"Oh, no, no, no. We are not dating. We are just friends."
Jessica narrowed her eyes. "Oh really?"
"Yes."
"I saw how Josh really cared about you. He took your hand and pulled you to sit beside him, even though there were chairs in there. And even in the restaurant when we went out together. He was putting dishes in your plate and smiling at you."
"He held my hand?" Sabrina was confused. She didn't even remember. She looked at her hand before looking back at Jessica, who was smiling. "Seriously Jessica, we aren't dating."
Jessica chuckled. "Do you like him?" She noticed Sabrina's face was already red.
Sabrina widened her eyes in surprise. 'How did she know?' She thought. "Nope I don't. I'm just focused on working to survive. Yes." She couldn't trust anyone with her feelings yet. She just got to know Jessica, so, she can't say anything.
"Okay I believe you." Jessica laughed because she knew Sabrina knew she still didn't, with the way Sabrina looked at her.
They spoke about a lot of things. It felt like they have known each other for a long time as they were going home.
The next day. The four of them went to the cemetery. They were all in black with a priest and some people. It was really sunny. The priest read some scriptures and prayed for the victim's afterlife. They sang hymns, as Mrs Williams was lowered six feet to the ground.
Sabrina and Jessica couldn't hold back their tears especially Jessica. "I'm sorry mother." She whispered.
Josh and Daniel had to console the two women, even though their hearts were shattered. They lost another important person in their life. It felt like good things were taken away from them.
Josh wiped the tears that rolled down his face. "Thank you for listening to me and making me feel better." He whispered and hid his face down for no one to see he was crying.
Daniel saw Josh. He smiled sadly. He held Josh's shoulder and squeezed it lightly. "It's okay bro." Daniel's voice cracked a little. "You don't have to hide it. I cried in your arms bro. Let it all out."
Josh stared at Daniel, then suddenly hugged him. Daniel was startled at first. Josh had never been like this. He patted Josh's back, consoling him.
Josh buried his face in the crook of Daniel's neck. He didn't want Jessica or Sabrina to see him cry. He still regrets not being at the store that night. If he refused Mrs Williams offer for them to go home earlier, she wouldn't have been alone.
Sabrina watched as Mrs Williams coffin was being covered by the sand.
She was alone in the hospital when her father died. She cried her eyes out that day. The hospital threatened not to release her father's body. She hadn't paid the hospital bills. Mrs Williams saw her begging the doctors. Sabrina looked miserable. She even fell at the feet of the female doctors, crying and begging.
Mrs Williams saw this and went to her. She held Sabrina by the arms, to help her up. She looked at Sabrina with pity. Her face was red, with the veins on her head popping out. "Its okay my dear." She wiped Sabrina's tears with her hands.
Sabrina stared at the woman amazed. She didn't know this woman from anywhere.
Mrs Williams smiled. She knew what the girl was thinking. "Don't worry my dear." She turned to look at the doctor. "I will pay the hospital bills, so that she can take her father's body."
Sabrina was stupefied. Where there still people like this in this world.? Her eyes were filled with tears once again. She knelt at the woman's feet, crying and thanking her. "Thank you so much ma'am. God bless y-you."
Mrs WWilliams quickly raised her up. "No my dear. Don't do that. Its okay." She chuckled as she hugged Sabrina. She released her from the hug and looked at her face. 'She is really beautiful.' She thought.
She pulled Sabrina to sit on the chair in the reception. "Don't cry my dear. Its alright."
Sabrina nodded and wiped her tears, sniffing. She looked at the woman. She admired her the moment she paid the hospital bills. "Thank you ma'am."
Mrs Williams smiled affectionately at Sabrina. "No need my dear. I am happy you are happy."
Sabrina nodded again. She didn't know why she was so comfortable with the woman. She felt like ahe trusted her. "Ma'am?"
"Yes my dear."
"Why did you pay, um pay for me, the hospital...?"
"I did because, it was terrible seeing you sad. I knew you needed help and, that is how I am." She shrugged.
Sabrina was so happy that this woman came into the hospital. "What would I have done if you weren't here?" She held the woman's hands. "Thank you so much ma'am. I am very grateful. I can finally bury my father." She couldn't control her tears after talking about her dad.
Mrs Williams wiped Sabrina's tears off her face. "Shh my dear. Stop crying. Your father will be sad, if he sees you sad."
"Im sorry." Sabrina laughed lightly and ckeaned her tears.
"Better." Mrs Williams brought out a card and handed it to Sabrina. "Take my dear. This Is my number."
Sabrina collected the card from her and read it. "Thank you. I will call you surely."
Mrs Williams smiled in satisfaction. "Good. Are you currently doing anything?" Mrs Williams asked.
"No ma'am." Sabrina answered. She kept the card in her jacket pocket.
"Okay then. I just opened a store." Sabrina eyes widened in excitement. Mrs Williams saw her cute expression and smiled. "I need someone to work on the counter. I don't know if you..."
"I will do it!!" Sabrina exclaimed. When she realised what she did, she coughed in lightly in embarrassment, before calming down to accept the job. "I will do it ma'am." She bowed, which made Mrs Williams laugh.
"Okay, I will hire you."
Sabrina exclaimed in joy."Thank you ma'am! Thank you so much ma'am! I won't let you down." She couldn't control how happy she was. She knew she will be forever indebted to Mrs Williams.
Sabrina stared at the burial ground that was already covered with flowers. "What manner of woman were you? Why did death take you away? I love you so much ma'am. Rest in peace ma'am. Rest in peace." She closed her eyes, as she whispered, praying silently.
