"I'm fine dad . Just a nightmare." I only wanted to tell that to him since it was pretty obvious . "Would you mind telling me what happened ?" He asked looking really worried .
"I don't wanna talk about it ." I looked at him , expecting him to say that it was ok , that I can tell him whenever I was ready , but instead he told , "Rene , you're a Berthim . Now that you've bloomed , your dreams can be a part from the future ."
I still didn't want to tell him about it since it wasn't a really good dream to talk about. But I realised that even if I didn't tell him about it , he would worry about what would happen and I didn't want that either . So I told him about it . "Don't worry , I don't think your previous boss is that evil . Also , I don't think he has the sources to find out how I can be killed . "
"What do you MEAN 'YOU THINK'? You have to 100 percent sure about it ! You shouldn't just conclude like that about something THIS serious!! I thought you were much more thoughtful !" He was being careless because he's a vampire !
"I'll make sure that he doesn't know how to harm me , honey . But even if he knew , he wouldn't be able to kill OR hurt me . " I didn't understand why one wouldn't be able to hurt him if they knew how to hurt him because if theories are correct , I believed that vampires can be killed by setting them on fire , making them absorb sunlight , stake them in the heart with wood or silver , or taking their heart out . The sunlight part was obviously not true since dad had no trouble going out in the morning .
I was still mad at him so I avoided him . "I'll talk to you once you finish making sure that he won't harm YOU ." I ate the leftovers of yesterdays dinner for breakfast and went outside. I was walking down the streets when I saw that same werewolf man again . Since it was not totally empty , I felt safe and walked forward , crossing paths with him . I don't know how but just when I thought I had surpassed him and looked back , he had turned around and started following me . I increased my pace and saw that he had increased his pace too . He had noticed me . I didn't want to keep on walking until I reached a dead end and get attacked by him resulting in me to use my powers again . The old woman had told me that daily use of my powers was bad for me . So I stopped near a restaurant and went inside . The tables were almost full , and thankfully , I had taken the last table .
But the man went towards the counter and ordered something , making an excuse to wait for me . He also ended up asking one customer who was sitting alone , if he could sit with him and that man let him sit there . Both of us were staring at each other while biting the food we ordered . I finished mine fast and went out . As I couldn't find anywhere else , I hid near the garbage disposal of the restaurant , which was located behind the restaurant and was really narrow that even if he found me here , he wouldn't be able to transform .
I waited for some time and then decided to go out , assuming that he might have gone but I was wrong . He was still looking out standing outside the restaurant when I reached near the front side of the restaurant . I took in a sharp breath and moved back before he could see me . But he sensed something and came towards the alleyway leading to the back of the restaurant . I ran back , careful to avoid using my powers but it lead to him hearing movements of my legs moving fast and so I assumed that he was behind me when I heard footsteps .
I was sure that he wouldn't be able to transform here but he was still a man . And even though I had killed , I had never fought a werewolf in the form of a human . They could be extraordinarily powerful and they normally have trouble hiding it from normal humans . That was what was told when I used to read books on supernatural creatures .
"Ugh!!! I finally found you ! " It was indeed that man but he didn't sound angry . I looked at him confused . "What do you want ? You better not try to hurt me or I will not hesitate to use my powers on you!" I warned him but he looked unaffected . "I'm not here to hurt you . I wanted to find you because I wanted something from you , .....since you're a Berthim you know?" I WAS relieved that he actually had no intention of hurting me but I couldn't use my powers now . At least not today . "I can try to help but I cannot use mt powers today since I can't use use my powers everyday ."
He seemed to understand and nodded . "My name is Nathaniel .This is my address and phone number. Come here tomorrow by 2 in the afternoon . I'll explain what exactly I need then ." He said while handing me a piece of paper . "Sure . See you tomorrow ." I left the alleyway feeling good that I wouldn't have to hide from him whenever I see him .
I didn't want anything for lunch since I ate quite a bit from the restaurant so I made some pasta for dad when he came back .
He hadn't come back for lunch like he normally came . It was also a little bit strange because he hadn't left any notes anywhere informing me about anything . I wanted to assume that he was ignoring me too because I ignored him today . But the back of my head kept bugging me to check and make sure since it WAS a possibility that he could be in trouble .
It was nearing dinner , and so I kept my ego aside and called him . The phone rung and rung until it said that his phone was switched off .
To check if anything was going on , I called my boss . "Hello?"
I didn't want to but I couldn't stop suspecting him so I tried hearing more into the call's background . I could hear muffled talking but I couldn't make out who's voice it was OR what he or she was telling . "Where are you ?" I asked him .
"I'm in our office , Rene . Also , I finally caught that bastard who kidnapped me and kept you hostage . You're free now , Rene . Get away from this STUPID city and be free from monsters like him ." I had felt somewhat good that he tried helping me but I didn't want any help . "He's my dad so don't do anything to him . I'm coming there ."
I hung up the call and made my way to the factory . I don't know HOW he ended up there . Either he was stupid enough to go to the factory himself , or my boss had actually found something that could hurt him . I also had a bad feeling about knowing that dad was in the factory with my boss because of the dream I had .
I reached near the factory gate . I tried hearing into what was happening now so that I would know whether I needed to attack or anything . "I KNOW that you're a vampire . I had to go around asking people whether they knew any witches JUST to find a way to kill you . I had to look like a MAD MAN because of you . You took my only faithful dog AWAY from me so that I wouldn't find the murderers who murdered my sweet children and so I want you to PAY for what you've done . "
My boss saw me as his dog who did whatever ? He also clearly wanted to hurt dad. I'll teach him a lesson even if it meant for me to loose my energy . I didn't want him to die . I opened the gate and went in . But as soon as I took a step in , all my energy was consumed and I couldn't move anywhere other than backwards . Boss had mentioned looking for a witch so maybe he had attacked my father because he had found the witch . Could she have possibly put a spell around the factory ? What could my bass have given or promised to give her for her to help him this much ??
I tried walking backwards but the spell only allowed me to take one step forward and one step backward . I couldn't get inside the factory to help dad . Realisation hit me .
Black crows cawed and flew around and above me . I stood in shock as I started hearing dad's screams . I tried shouting back at him but I just couldn't . I called my boss . The screaming stopped . "Yes , Rene ?I'm in the middle of something so would you mind opening the door of the factory yourself ? I don't care that it's his dad because I'm not doing this for YOU . I'm doing this for myself .I know that you're also one of those supernatural creatures . The witch I found told me all about it . She's spelled it here . You can't enter , can you ? Good luck saving you're father ." He talked with an enormous amount of arrogance and evil in his voice that now I doubted how he had managed to act like the good guy from when I saw him every time . Trying to find bad guys is not his flaw . But one shouldn't change this much of his character to find someone who they want revenge . He was frustrated and tired of not being able to find HIS proper target .
I didn't know how much power I would have to use in order for me to break the spell around the house but I was willing to try because convincing my boss to come to his senses wasn't going to work through the phone . Dad's scream was heard once again . I tried cracking the spell and could feel my arms becoming weak . I felt my veins being crushed by the power but I was able to walk towards the factory halfway . Still keeping it going , I went forward . The pain from the veins had transformed to all over my body . I was crying because of the pain but I couldn't give up . Giving it my all , I made it to the door .
I fell to my knees once I crossed it . I hadn't realised the increase in voice of the screams from the factory . My boss was screaming WITH my dad . I ran into the factory , almost forgetting to jump over the trap and ran to boss's office .
I saw the most horrific scene I could ever imagine . My boss was putting in a wooden stake into his heart and I could see that he was almost lifeless . He was tied up in large and heavy chains that I was sure that he could break apart . Then why didn't he break it free . I noticed that boss was screaming as if he was hurting himself . He was bleeding at the same place that dad was bleeding except , he didn't have any stake going through his heart visibly .
I ran forward and stopped him from hurting dad any further . I didn't give a shit about my boss . I wouldn't even call him my boss anymore . As soon as I pushed him away from him and took the stake out , he stopped bleeding but , his injury was only healing very slowly . I dragged him out since I didn't have any energy to even walk myself , and my arm was also giving me a hard time . Dad was conscious but he was tired too . I got out of the factory and onto the street . The darkness around us making it seem endless and empty . I took out my phone and called Stacy ."You! Where have you been ! I would've filed a missing complaint instead of looking for you myself if I hadn't known what kind of work you did ."
I sure hadn't told anything to her since I was absorbed in my OWN story . "I'll tell you everything but right now , I need your help . This isn't a case for hospitals so can you pick me up ?"
I told her the street name and waited , keeping myself from passing out . My whole fore arm was bruised and there was just no way I would be able to hide it from dad OR anyone else . I couldn't stop myself when I passed out onto father's lap while he couldn't even take care of himself .....
