Kyrie tossed to her right for might have been the hundredth time as the hour continued to tick. She was uneasy, and she felt like her body was being pricked by tiny needles as she realized the implication of their actions.
They are deliberately hiding a demon from the Holy Archdiocese, something that goes against every single oath they took on their ordination. Said demon was also most definitely wanted for destruction of private poverty and a highly suspect for the recent arson cases.
Said demon was at her living room right now, sleeping and dressed in bandages after she tried rescuing Kyrie's friend from the explosion of her apartment.
Kyrie's mind was a mess.
"Elan?" she tried calling, but said girl was deeply asleep. Which was definitely understandable, given what happened. They've treated most of her injuries--which were thankfully minor--and Elan had all just fell asleep minutes after laying down.
Kyrie sighed and quietly go out of her room and into the kitchen. She kept the lights there, illuminating her tiny kitchen island with some of the foods her family sent to her that she completely forgot to put away.
In her case, she had been distracted by a lot of things tonight, which didn't really help her case as she often forgot a lot of things on a daily basis.
Yawning, she went to grab a glass and pour some cold water. She turned around, eyes heavy with exhaustion despite being unable to sleep, and saw a person standing rigidly on her door, a bandaged arm reaching for the doorknob. For a few seconds, the two of them were locked in an intense staring contest.
"Elan! Come over here!" she shouted as she dive-tackle the girl after recovering her senses. The other was surprised but managed to moved to the side. Kyrie heard her hissed in pain.
The sound of a door opening echoed in the apartment and sounds of footsteps running was then followed as Elan flew out of the room, hair still mussed up from sleep.
She made an 'oof!' sound when she hit something hard, pushing her down the floor in her butt. Her arms instinctively wound around the one that collided with her, blinking into an equally wide pair of electric blue eyes, the same ones she saw at that alley.
"Oh! You're awake!" She couldn't help but exclaimed. The girl blinked rapidly, seemingly realized that she now has no chance to escape the two priests.
Elan watched the other girl slowly nod her head. She looked more at ease now, probably from the impact, as Elan helped her stand up. She looked over her arms and hands, finally taking note of the bandages tied neatly all around them.
Elan lost her steps a bit when they accidentally knocked over each other again, the electric blue eyes still catching her in surprise.
The color was definitely unique, but not really unsettling as she might have thought, especially knowing that she's a demon. Her skin was still pale, but not as sickly as earlier; she's most probably naturally pale. Her midnight black hair looked like some of it was singed, but the damaged was not that bad. Elan was at least glad for that.
Another awkward silence lapsed, the three of them looking back at each other. Soon, Kyrie became too fed up with it and took a step closer.
"Okay! What were you doing at Elan's apartment?"
Elan looked at her friend in surprise. The other girl's shoulder stiffened defensively, but she looked at Elan's direction at the mention of her name.
Okay, maybe she shouldn't mentioned Elan's name, Kyrie thought with a slight flinch.
Elan fumbled for something to say. "Uh. . ."
"Are you the one setting fire at every buildings outside the city borders? Who's the demon you're serving? Or are you moving on your own? What were you guys planning?!"
"Kyrie!" Elan called. She shot a look at the other girl. Her electric blue eyes were slitted in a rather sharp glare and her knuckles were white even as she kept them on her side. They can't let this girl closed up on them, they can't lose any lead now. "Kyrie, don't just sprung those up without any--"
"And?"
Both of them looked at the glaring girl in surprise when they heard her talk. "Why didn't you guys left me there? You know what I am, didn't you?"
The two friends looked at each other and then looked back at her. When their silence seemed to anger the other girl more and was about to say something, a sudden knock came at the door along with someone calling, "Kyrie? Are you in there?"
"Crap, it's Arthur!" Kyrie hissed. "What are we going to do?"
Elan looked around, unsure.
"Kyrie, I know you're home, your door's unlocked."
Elan looked at her friend in disbelief. Kyrie gave a helpless shrug. She was too caught up with everything so they can't really blame her for that.
"A-ah, Arthur? What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" Kyrie shouted, panic obvious in her eyes.
"I just heard the report. Elan's building has burned down hours ago but they weren't sure of her whereabouts. Has she came here by any chance?"
"B-burned?" Kyrie moved closer to the door. "I didn't know that. I haven't seen Elan after this morning, though."
"She's not here, then." They heard the boy sighed at the other side. "The entire building's practically razed, but aside from serious burns, no one had died in the fire."
Elan sighed in relief at that.
"The fire seemed to come from Elan's room, but they can't find her anywhere in the vicinity. Are you sure she didn't tried to contact you?"
"I would have known if she tried, Arthur. Did you tried going to Father Caesar? Maybe she's visiting him or something."
They heard him hummed. No one tried to move as they wait for Arthur's moves. Kyrie was literally crossing her fingers and Elan could feel her heart rate rising. The other girl looked too wound up, poised to jump in the tiniest sign. Another beat, and then,
"Alright, I'll try Father Caesar, maybe she really is visiting him. Hopefully. You'll try to contact me when you see her?"
"Yes yes, just go on now before you actually miss her on the way." They all listened as the footsteps moved further away.
"Well he's gone. But. . ." Kyrie eyed the injured girl and then gave Elan a pointed look.
"You guys calling the entire priesthood on me now?"
Kyrie was now glaring at the girl, the two of them locked in an intense glaring contest.
"Guys, stop that," Elan sighed as she rubbed her forehead. Despite the gravity of the situation, she couldn't help but feel that the set-up was almost familiar. Only, now, Arthur was replaced by an angry blue-eyed demon girl in bandages.
"I don't trust you," Kyrie told the other bluntly. "You and your kind have killed many of my brothers and sisters in the field, and you've harmed and used so many innocent people. Hell, you've tried to kill my friend just this night! What are your people's after?!"
Elan flinched at the volume of the voice. At this rate they'll wake up the entire building.
"What a coincidence, I don't your people either. All of you always thought that you're high enough I'm terms of morality and justice even as you kill hundreds of my kind. What, does the number of lives you've taken from us that much of a sport for you all? A source of pride? Tch, who are you people kidding?"
"You--!"
"What? Why don't you try and arrest me, if your so upright? You--"
"Oh don't try to temp me because I will--"
"Enough!" Elan stood in between the two. "No one is doing anything nor arresting anyone!" She levelled a glare at each one of them, feeling a little satisfaction when even the demon girl looked chastised enough.
"I know you must be really confused right now," she addressed the girl. "But please, trust us that we won't do anything to you, nor are we taking you to the archdiocese. Yes, I have some questions for you, but I can assure you that you're safe with us, at least."
Elan expected for more objections, but was pleasantly surprised that the girl seemed to accept her explanations and nodded.
"How come she listens to you easily?" Kyrie grumbled. The girl gave her another glare, but her stance has somewhat relaxed now.
"Well, now that we've settled that, w--"
"Kyrie, there's--"
The door suddenly opened as Arthur went inside the room, not finishing his sentence when his eyes landed on the three girls in the living room.
There was a heavy beat of silence until Arthur's eyes widened and shouted, "Demon!" and quickly grabbing a handgun from his holster. The sound of bullet firing echoed in the room.
