"Demon!" Arthur shouted as he pulled his handgun from his holster. Before Elan could even register what's happening, the sound of shots firing rang throughout the room.
Lesson number one they all learned from their time in the academy: "always carry a gun/weapon in your person." Being ordinates had given them licenses to carry such dangerous weapons in public, but what their instructor wanted to convey to them at that time was to always practice vigilance. You can never know when you'll face a demon on your way.
The girl, at least, has great reaction time and reflexes as she managed to dive out of the way of the bullet. The girl actually growled as her blue eyes shifted to red, something that Elan noted and mentally logged, but as of now, both her and Kyrie had all but dived towards their friend who had already loaded another full magazine on his gun.
They heard something break, but the three of them ended up in a wrestling match, with Kyrie trying to pull the gun away from Arthur.
"What the-- what the hell's wrong with you two?!" Arthur demanded as he tried to push the two girls away. "That's a demon!"
"Arthur calm down! Stop shooting before you ended up hurting someone!"
"Arthur, listen to us. There's a reason why she's here. Put your gun down!"
The four of them wrestled around the small living room for a while until Elan managed to pull the injured girl away from their angry friend who was held by Kyrie by his arms. Both of them were growling at each other, the air around them practically crackling in electricity. The demon girl's eyes had now shifted red, but Arthur's were glowing an ethereal molten gold.
"Wha. . ." Kyrie blinked hard as she felt her friend changing even though there's nothing out of the ordinary about his looks. But this feeling. . .
". . . An angel?"
The are continued to charge as the other two looked at Arthur with slack jaws. The demon girl spat, eyes glowering despite the sharp smirk.
"Never thought your kind would be willing to come down your heavens."
"Shut up, demon." Arthur's voice had a slight growling sound into it, almost nothing like his normal drawling voice. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm not under obligation to answer that, angel."
"Elan! Kyrie! Explain yourself!"
Elan wasn't sure if she'd ever seen him this angry towards them, and the glowing gold eyes made him scarier than usual.
"She saved me," she blurted out. "She saved me when my apartment exploded. I can't leave her there."
"Weren't she the one that caused it to explode in the first place?" Kyrie said under her breath, buy it was loud enough to hear. Elan kicked her in the shin.
Arthur narrowed his eyes but kept his gun locked at the demon girl, who now looked impassive.
"Please don't blow my apartment."
Arthur's eyebrow twitched but he loosen his stance. "Fine. But we're taking this demon to the church and have her under interrogation. You two," he pointed at the girls, "Are going to face the authorities and explain your actions."
Kyrie paled slightly at that but she didn't utter a complain. Elan only heaved a defeated sigh.
Something grabbed her by the neck and pulled her a few steps back. Her hands instinctively grabbed the arm pressing up her throat as her watery eyes saw the surprised look of her two friends.
"Elan!"
"Stop!" Arthur had his gun pointed, but with Elan on the way, he won't be able to shoot.
"Like hellĀ I'm going to let you lot drag me down to prison," the demon girl said to them as she grabbed a round object, much smaller than the bomb that she took out earlier. "And you're not the only ones who can create weapons." With a blinding light, the two of them vanished.
***
Teleportation spell?!
Both Kyrie and Arthur gape at the empty space where the two girls were standing just a minute ago before they vanished out of thin air.
"Oh fuck," Kyrie said after a few minutes of silence, the curse making the other twitch back into focus.
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God we are so done!" She exclaimed as she started pacing around in fast, nervous steps. "What the hell was that? Can demons easily vanish out of air like that? Since when were the demons has access to any technologies that could create things like that?!"
"They shouldn't. Technologies needed to create something like that is handled solely by Heaven to create the weapons given to priests. There's no way..!" There's no way for any demon to have such access, unless they took it from the source themselves.
Heaven is an impenetrable kingdom, a fortress guarded by legions of angels all possessing combative skills on top of the Grace given by God. Unless the gates open for you, there's no way for one to find any way inside it.
Kyrie paled when the implications dawned on her. She looked at Arthur and saw his face darkened.
"Don't even try to talk about it, unless you want your tongue cut off by the church."
"You're the one that started it!" Her reply was automatic, and the familiar bantering conversation somehow calmed the both of them down.
"What are we going to do?" she asked. If they want Elan found then the most efficient thing is to report and request a search from the church.
"If we go to the church now, even Elan won't be able to escape unscathed."
"Eh?"
The guy heaved a sigh. "Why in the world did you agree to hide a demon here without thinking of the consequences?" He asked, irritated. "Forget detention, if the higher-ups found out all of this the lightest Elan's going to get is to be revoked from priesthood."
"What?!"
Arthur gave her a glare. "We'll go out on our own. Something's going on behind the shadows, and Elan might get caught accidentally if we're not careful."
Kyrie nodded stiffly. "So you won't drag us back to the Archdiocese?" Arthur sighed again, this time sounding defeated.
"It's already getting big of a mess anyway. And it's not like I haven't cleaned enough messes caused by you two." His eyes are now back to his normal honey-brown, and his expression's back to the one to the put-upon one he usually wear, where he thought the people around him are acting dumb on purpose. Kyrie found herself sighing in relief.
"For now, let's try to do things under the radar. I knew some people under that can help us track this technology the demons are working on. There's also a high chance that we'll find Elan this way."
He looked at the other girl who was gazing at him with her brows slightly furrowed. "What?"
"It's a bit, uh, weird. Hearing you have contacts in the underground while knowing you're an angel."
"Is that the only thing that stuck in your head from everything I've been saying here?!"
