Nothing he was saying was completely true.
After all, his method of finding out about the news was through chains of gossip and other rather unreliable sources. He was just saying what he had heard, from someone who was saying what he had heard, from someone who was saying what he had heard from a friend.
After going through at least 3 chains of people, it was obvious that the news would get diluted to the point where it was practically unrecognizable.
If general Sun were to hear his current news, he would most definitely laugh about it
It was so far from the truth that it wasn't even worth talking about. He would never be able to understand how that news came to be. It was somewhat ridiculous.
