Chapter 3 - Registration

Tina jumped off the small bunkbed later and grabbed Theo's shoulders and began shaking him like a rag doll and yelled.

"Wait, you haven't even applied yet!? The new semester is starting in three days! Theo, If you want to have any chance of getting any good classes we got to get you registered now!"

Tina finally let go of Theo who was struggling to see straight due to the intense shaking nearly fell on his butt. Although before he did Tina grabbed his hand and began hurriedly leading Theo down the stone hallway once more.

After at least five minutes of being dragged along Theo found himself standing at the end of the hallway in front of a small gargoyle statuette on a stone pedestal. The stone wall behind it looks to have a map of the castle carved into it with a certain part of the castle colored green.

Tina turned to face the gargoyle and stated in a commanding voice.

"Two to the Admissions and Registration Ward."

Theo watched as the gargoyle's hollow eyes began to glow a light green that then began to quickly glow brighter and brighter till all he could see was green. Almost as soon as it appeared the green light dissipated from Theo's vision allowing him to see once more. However, he found the green part of the wall map had changed to a building near the castle's front. Before Theo could ask Tina what just happened, she grabbed his hand and hurriedly began leading Theo down the stone hall once again.

After a few minutes of being dragged along Theo noticed that the layout and pathing of the stone hallway were different than before. Deciding he would ask about it later, Theo let himself be silently dragged along by Tina.

A few minutes later the duo found themselves in front of a stone archway with a golden plack engraved with the words "Admissions and Registration" above it. Passing under the archway Theo found himself in a decently sized waiting room. Tina walked over to the reception desk still dragging Theo along. Noticing our approach the female secretary adjusted her round glasses and greeted us with a warm smile.

"Hello there Tina, what can I do for you and your..."

The receptionist glanced at Theo with a pitying look as she looked over his outfit then looking back over to Tina she continued.

"~new friend?"

Seeing the receptionist's reaction Theo for the first time since waking up in this world he took a look at what he was wearing. The once form loose-fitting light blue T-shirt he normally used to wear to work was now so oversized in his new body it looked like a smock rather than a shirt! The belt that normally held his pants up now acted as a leather sash. he also noticed that there were burn marks and fraying all around the edges of his outfit. Shocked by his current attire he began to complain internally.

'What the hell!? where are my pants!? Where is my Labcoat!? Ahhh! I look like a goddang homeless person!'

Theo was jolted out of his internal rant by the cheery voice of Tina calling out to him.

"Hey, Theo good news! My Father is free for the next hour so he can help you apply for classes!"

Hearing the good news Theo's mood brightened as he is close to getting at least one of the many things crossed off his ever-expanding to-do list. After a few minutes of waiting the receptionist led the pair over to another open archway the golden plack reading "Advisory Office 2B". Waking through the archway revealing a small office with two chairs facing a slightly messy desk. Behind the desk was a man wearing a casual suit with a wry smile. His short unkempt brown hair matched the familiar big brown eyes that seemed to look at Theo with curiosity and wonder.

After the pair took their seats Tina's father introduced himself with a similar over the to manner as Tina. leaning over the desk he aggressively shook Theo's hand as he spoke.

"So you are my lovely daughter's new friend! Nice to meet you my I am Tina's father Arthur J. Croff. I am one of the many Advisory Professors at this academy, what might your name be?"

Theo was a bit taken aback not just by Arthur's enthusiasm but by the face he has the same name as his father on his earth! To be fair Theo's father died when he was still a baby and was raised by his mom. whenever Theo did something over the top or goofy as a kid his mom always smiled warmly and say with a chuckle "You are just like your father." Setting his childhood memories aside he replied with a wry smile.

"Nice to meet you, Professor my name Is Theodore Jennings but most people call me Theo."

Deciding to leave out his Last name as to not cause any confusion to his parallel parent.

"Wellcome to Stonehall Magic Academy young Mr. Theo! I heard you wish to apply for classes this semester?"

Theo responded to the question with a firm nod. Seeing this Arthur continued explaining.

"Now a first-year student can take up to 10 classes in one year however 4 out of the 10 are Core Classes meaning they are required to advance to the second year. However, the school year is divided into two semesters of 5 classes each so students are free to divide up their class schedule however they see fit. Some students split up the core classes between the semesters. Other students, like Tina here take 5 electives in the first semester leaving all the Core Classes for the second semester."

Arthur paused for a moment in order to let Theo process all the information. After Theo gave a nod of understanding Arthur continued on explaining.

"Seeing as you are applying for the second semester you are going to need to take all 4 of your Core Classes at once. It will be hard but you will be sharing classes with little Tina so you will at least have a friend in class. trust me it is always good to have someone to watch you back in the Core Classes. Expesualy in the second semester everyone is going to be gunning for enough Merit Points to pass. Oh, right I forgot to explain Merit Points! In order to pass your classes, you need to earn Merit Points these can be earned through your successes. For example, getting top marks in an exam will normally earn you 5 to 15 Merit Points depending on the exam's importance. However, one can also lose Merit Points through your failures. For example, getting bottom marks in an exam will normally cause you to lose 5 to 15 Merit Points. Another way to earn points is to bet them in a Magical Duel. A Magical Duel is when two mages settle a dispute through magical combat. The time, place, and stakes are to be agreed upon by both mages and overseen by a third party. keep in mind anything short of outright killing your opponent is fair game in a Magical Duel since mid-tier healing magic can cure most non-lethal injuries. Anyone can be challenged even Professors though it is not recommended to do so as all of the Professors are masters of at least one branch of Magic. You got all that Theo?"

hearing this Theo was a bit surprised at how much competition is at this school. but he ultimately understood the main points and after giving a brief summary to Arthur showing that he understood. Arthur gave a satisfied nod and said.

"Now you have 3 days till the second semester starts at which point you will have to take the entrance exam. It is probably a good idea for you to brush up on the basics of magic. Little Tina can be your study partner since she will be retaking the test since she didn't take any core classes last semester. Also when practicing Combat Magic be sure you go to the Training Field. Now get back to your room and get to studying. Oh, almost forgot to mention you two will be roommates. So don't try anything funny with my daughter... Wait a month or two so you get to know her first!"

With that embarrassing final remark, the duo left Professor Croff's red as tomatoes and began the awkward walk back to Room 121 to begin studying for the entrance exam in three days.
