Chapter 7 - TJ's Flame

"~In any case, let's head back to our room I have much to teach you before the entrance exam."

After leaving the First Floor Dining Hall via Gargoyle Circle the two kids made their way back to their room. for the rest of the evening, Theo finished teaching Tina the Periodic Table of Elements before the two kids put away their books and claimed into their respective beds. Lying awake in the bottom bunk of their bed Theo silently began planning out what to do for the next few days in his mind.

'Ok, the first thing I need to do is finish teaching Tina enough basic Chemistry to where she can have a good understanding of Fire and Combustion. once that happens it should improve her casting speed exponentially as well as allow her to make more powerful flames! Maybe I should make a basic equation to help her control the output and such? Yeah, I could disguise it as a new spell~'

Due to his wandering thoughts, Theo did not seem to be able to fall asleep. Seeing this he quietly got out of bed and made his way over to the desk. Grabbing a charcoal pencil and a blank journal, he began to write out a basic equation for making a controlled flame spell. After a few minutes, Theo had finished writing out his new spell.

- TJ's Flame

Required Knowledge: the States of Matter, the Periodic Table of Elements, The Elements, and how Fire and Combustion works.

Description: This spell creates a small dark red flame that is then propelled toward a target. on impact, the flame expands to envelop the target in dark red flames for a few seconds before dissipating. The normal casting time is 6 seconds.

Putting his hand to his chin Theo continued to think about how to improve on his new spell.

'Maybe I could also show her how to alter the equation to produce different effects? Things like changing the size of the flame or the time needed to cast. There are so many possibilities! Hmm, better limit the number of Enhancements though. I don't want to make this too powerful let's start with two for now.'

After a few more minutes of writhing, Theo had made the first two of his Spell Enchancment Options. Theo smiled proudly as looked down at his work.

- Boost-Casting: When casting a spell using this enhancement, you can Boost the power of the spell. The number of times the spell's original power can be boosted is determined by each spell. Do not exceed the max power boost or the safety of the caster will be in jeopardy.

- Quick-Casting: When casting a spell using this enhancement, you shorten the time needed to complete the casting of the spell. The amount of time reduced depends on the spell being cast and how much experience you have in casting said spell.

Theo gave a satisfied nod he put down his pencil then silently closed the blank journal. With his Journal in hand, he stood up from the desk and made his way back to his bed. placing the small later journal under his pillow he climbed back into bed. Smiling to himself Theo finally drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Tina awoke in the top bunk in her room. Smiling to her self she quickly climbed down from her bed. Putting her hands on her hips, Tina turned to the bottom bunk in hopes of waking up her new roommate. However, Tina instead saw that the bottom bunk was neatly made with no sign of anyone sleeping in it. Tina froze as she began to doubt her memories of the previous day.

'Where is Theo!? Didn't he go to sleep in the bottom bunk!? Wait! What if yesterday was just a dream!? I mean if I think about it logically, Theo was way too perfect. I mean he was super smart, kind, funny, and really cute! Also, the way he appeared was just too strange!'

Tina let out a depressed sigh and mumbled to herself head hanging low.

"I should have known it was too good to be true~"

Just then Theo walked through the front entrance wall of the small bedroom a teasing smile on his face as he stated loudly.

"Ok Tina, It's nearly 11 in the morning if you don't wake up now you won't be able to learn any of my spells before the~ Oh! Tina, you are finally awake I see?"

Tina was at a loss for words. Feeling so stupid as to have doubted herself and Theo, she began to ball her eyes out. Seeing this Theo was taken aback as he hesitated but then went and hugged Tina tightly.

"Tina, what happened? What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Tina hugged Theo back even harder burying her head in his shoulder. Throughout the sniffs and sobs, Tina explained her previous doubts and fears when she saw the empty bed.

*Sniff*

"W-when I saw that your bed was empty~"

*Sob*

"I-I was afraid that yesterday was a dream~"

*Sniff*

"A-and that would mean you weren't really real!"

*Sob*

"I-I want you to be real!"

*Sniff*

"Y-you are my best friend Theo and I never want to lose you!"

Theo was shocked that Tina was having all these ridiculous worries. Then, after thinking about it for a moment he realized from Tina's perspective yesterday's events were indeed strange.

Tina met a sleeping boy that appeared through a blinding golden light. when she finally spoke to the boy, he seemed to have knowledge of the secrets of Mana and incredible magic. The boy offered to teach her what he knew out of the blue. The boy talked down the top-scoring student saying he with his teachings Tina could beat that student in the entrance exam...

If Theo was in Tina's place he would have had the same doubts as her seeing that empty bed. Now feeling really guilty, Theo hugged Tina tighter and said with sincerity.

"Oh, I am such a goddang idiot! Tina, I am so sorry I didn't mean to make you worry! Hell, I would have jumped to the same conclusions if I was in your place! Don't worried I am really real and yesterday was not a dream! So dry your tears Study Buddy! Today you learn a new fire spell!"

After a few moments to compose her self Tina wiped away her tears and smiled her usual beaming smile.

"Thank you, Theo I am ok now!"

Theo smiled warmly at Tina. Then getting back into professor mode he stated.

"Good! Now Tina we got a bit more studying to do before I can teach you this new fire spell so let's get to it!"

For the next few hours, Theo taught Tina the rest of the basic chemistry knowledge needed to learn Theo's new spell. At around 5 pm Tina finished learning about how Fire and Combustion works. With that, Theo smiled warmly and stated.

"Ok Tina, I think you are ready to learn this new fire spell! come on grab your Arcane Focus and let's head to the Training Field!"

After grabbing what they needed the pair began to make their way to the closest Training Field. This area's Training Field was located outside their doom building near the same garden path where Tina found Theo. As the two kids were walking down the familiar garden path, Tina still wondering why Theo was up so early asked as she walked next to Theo.

"Hey Theo, I was wondering what you were doing up so early?"

Glancing back at Tina, Theo smiled wryly then replied.

"A few things actually, I am used to eating breakfast relatively early so I tend to wake up around six in the moring. However, when I woke up you were still sleeping and since I didn't want to have breakfast alone, I decided to skip it and head to see your dad since I had a few questions about the exam and where I can get an Arcane Focus. After heading over to his office I ended up spending a good forty or so minutes trying to get that judgey reseptionist to let your dad know I'm here to see him..."

Theo let out an exasperated sigh then he continued.

"Just as I was about to leave, your dad came out of the office to get some breakfast. After explaining the situation your dad was pretty pissed that his receptionist didn't notify him of when I first arrived. After giving the receptionist a warning to notify him whenever he has someone waiting to see him, your dad offered to have breakfast with me~"

Theo chuckled slightly as he remembered Arthur giving that judgy receptionist an earful.

"~After heading to the Staff Dining Hall I had a pleasant conversation with your dad over some chocolate pancakes. At the end of the conversation, I asked him about how the Entrance Exam and how to get an Arcane Focus. He gave me the relevant information on the exam. Then, we went over to the School Store and he bought me an Arcane Focus as a thank you for the fun chat~"

Theo held up a small blue stone at the end of a necklace.

"~After thanking your father we headed back to his office and I went over to the Training Feild to test out my new Arcane Focus. I ended up spending a good three and a half hours testing out a few new spells including the one I plan to teach you."

As Theo smiled warmly at Tina, the two kids finally arrive at their destination.
