Chapter 9 - Father and Mother

As I began to walk for the western gate I heard a man pleading to the prince. "Majesty this creature is far too dangerous! He must be put to death!". The crowd did not agree with the man as they had began to yell, "booooo!". I turned back around as I was walking past the pile of mangled body parts, soaked in enough blood to fill five wine barrels, to see that the man standing had a woman beside him in tears. They looked to be in their early thirties. The prince rose up once more, "John you are a well respected warrior class in my fathers army. Your words will be taken into consideration, however the people disagree. Should I the crowned prince take the word of one man and anger the masses, or take sides with the people and anger only one?". As soon as I heard the mans name I knew just who he was, my father. The same man that stripped me from my screaming mother, beat me, and then left me to be caged. It was his fault that I had been imprisoned my entire life. My calmed state vanished, anger swept over me. It took complete control. Without telling my body to act I was more up towards my father, letting out loud roars and exposing my razor sharp teeth. As I made it just below the seating area I bashed into an invisible wall that shined the same jade color as my cell. That is when I noticed six small pillars around the arena, each one had a jade green stone. The crowd jumped up as i smashed into the wall, fearing me slightly, but then they all began to laugh at my failure. I dropped back to the ground and continued to leave the sand. As I made my way into the gate, and into Torg's custody, I listen to the back and forth from John and the prince until I was far enough in the lowly lit prison hall to hear them any longer.

Torg and a fresh batch of guardsmen locked me into my cell, and removed my restraints. Torg instructed some of the men to go and guard the main gate down into the prison, while issuing orders to others of them to feed the beasts. He stood just outside of my cell and began to speak to me, as I walked back up to the ceiling to take a nap and collect my thoughts. "Boy I can't believe it. What a sight to behold. You may just become the new executioner." I didn't answer him I merely covered myself within my wings. "Get some rest. I'm sure you will be called back out in no time.", he said as he to walked away. I guess he had caught the hint that I wasn't in a talkative mood. I hung there going over everything in my head. I didn't know much about my mother, but I knew that my father despised me. He saw me as a devil, and wanted me to join the underworld. I tried and tried to just sleep it off but I couldn't get the picture of him slicing me over and over again as a infant. Rest would not come and after awhile I heard Torgs armor clinking back down the hall, with at least two more people, headed my direction.

Once they arrived a soft soothing voice made a request to Torg, "if you don't mind battle master may we speak to him alone?". "John, Mary I don't know what this is about, but I trust the two of you. Don't get me into any trouble.", Torg stated as he once more walked back down the hall. Once the battle master was a safe distance away my father was the first to spew his thoughts. "Get down here and face me demon.", my father said in a stern but hushed tone. As I dropped to the floor and made my way to the cell bars that separated us my mother began to speak. "John calm yourself. You agreed to this so that I could see what has become of our son.". "This creature is no son of mine Mary.". My father said as he drew out a short sword that was tucked in his waistband. He then thrusted the sword between the bars. The sword was just long enough that roughly one quarter of the blade pierced my stomach, dropping my health down drastically. Which wasn't much of a surprise to me, the man was a level thirty five warrior. However my father knows that I am immortal, so there was no reason to keep that secret hidden. I simply kept walking into the blade until the hilt was now pressed against me. My mother let out a gasp then fell to her knees and began to weep. I had taken more damage from my fathers sword, but to me it was well worth it to prove to him that I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of my fear of him. I grabbed his wrist, with my left hand, so that he couldn't pull away from me. I formed my right hand into it's true form and rammed it into his gut. That strike only took about an eighth of his health. He was quite the sturdy warrior. Then my mother began to plea, "stop it! Both of you!". I would have loved to continue jabbing away at John, but my mother held a place in my cold heart. I remembered that she screamed and tried her best when I was born, and for a woman who had just given birth she couldn't move as she would have been in a very intense pain. Not to mention it was me she birthed, honestly it's a miracle that she even survived the experience. So at her request I removed my claw from my fathers stomach, and released my iron grip on his arm. He then pulled his sword out from my stomach, and proceeded to leave the prison, but not before issuing one final threat. "This isn't over devil. I will find a way to end you.". With my father now far away Mary rose to her feet with tears still in her eyes. She reach her hand into the cell and placed it on my cheek. Her tears grew in number as this was the first time she had touch her child. I felt bad about my next move, but I needed to know. Would my mother still love me if I showed my true self? With her hand still on my face I let out the monster. Veins, fangs and claws all exposed, as I kept my eyes on the face of my mother. She showed no signs of fear, her face still raining down tears, she rubbed my cheek once more and turned to take her leave. "It doesn't matter to me Dracul. You will always be my son, but for my sake no one can ever know.", she said as she wept and walked away.
