"I wonder why stars burn so bright when it is futile to face the darkness that will one day consume them whole? Isn't it better to just give up? Isn't it better to just be consumed? Isn't all just inevitable?"
A soft spoken feminine voice echoes out towards a pitch black sky in hopes of an answer. The contrasting soft glimmering white light of stars that willingly breathes hope into the endless void however offers no reply as they continue their tireless struggle.
"It is all so futile yet here I am just like you waking up each and every day to shed a bit of light in the name of hope. A singular fleeting nightmare gets to dictate my strings of destiny. Ughhh! This is all so frustrating."
The voice serving as contrast to the silver light of the moon that scatters across the calm crystal bluish green waters of The Veiling Sea which gently laps against the rickety pier from which hangs the slender legs of a feminine figure. The reflection of the full moon against the waters was constantly under assault by the idle swinging of feet in and out of the cold waters below.
"I guess it is finally time to leave this forsaken nest? So many tears have I spilled into these waters but now I guess it is time to make a lake elsewhere."
Fingers tipped with black nails that gently curve at the end just like claws grasp at a refined purple crystalline emblem crafted in the shape of a shield while being emblazoned with gold that depicts a pair of wings folding inwards to form a heart which reflect beautifully deep purple irises guarded by a cyan glowing ring.
With a sigh the slender built figure with subtle feminine curves lazily shifts to her full height causing soft creeks of the damp wood beneath her feet. Idly the figure dressed only in elegantly crafted black lacy lingerie quickly dusted off her soft pale skin of her thighs before turning away from the endless calming waters of The Veiling Sea to walk the path she had for many years for maybe the last time.
The wooden pier bellowed with every step as the figure traveled along its length until her feet fell on the cold coarse sand. Her journey however continued for a few more short light steps until she stood once more in front of a cabin constructed from stone and wood.
With a deep breath the small slender hand of the figure gently pushed against the cabin's loose hinged doors causing it to pivot inwards to reveal a wooden floor made of damp and rotten wood. Time had begun to take its toll and several more ambitious plants began to grow in between the floor boards in hopes of reclaiming what was once theirs.
Eventually, the figure curled up into a patchwork sleeping bag before gently laying their head on top of a woolen pillow clearly made from shoddy needlework even before it gained its' many stains. Despite it appearance though the sleeping bag and pillow offered the gentle comforts for a decent night rest.
The flickering embers of a once roaring hearth gently illuminate the figure in orange hues as she raised her right hand up to observe a time worn silver bracelet. The bracelet bears many scratches from its the many years bound to its host. A simple trinket with so much heart and meaning. A symbol of the many years of fighting to survive, the endless search but most importantly the hope for the light at the end of a tunnel.
Lost in that simple quiet moment the soft pursed lips whisper, "A promise never to be forgotten. A heart all my own. A dream to explore what lays hidden. A hope to return what is lost. A destiny to fulfill" The words continued as a chant as the voice slowly got softer and softer until it was replaced by the lulling lullabies of dreams. A moment of peace until the light of dawn shone upon them again to remind them of the harsh realty of what is to come.
