Chapter 4 - Hiding In The Branches

The barrel was knocked out of the way as the wolves sprinted out, just as the fox was sweeping away our tracks from under the tree. We were all sitting on the branches that we'd managed to reach, Peter and I sitting extra close to not risk breaking anything. "greeting gents, lost something have we?" the fox called loudly. "don't patronise me! we know where your allegiance lies, we're looking for some humans and an escaped witch. " the leader snarled. The fox laughed. "humans? here in Narnia? that's a bit of valuable information don't you think, and that Witch could never have escaped that tower. it was impenetrable!" one of the wolves bit the fox, and he let out a painful yelp. Lucy and I gasped causing Susan and Peter to slam their hands over their mouths. "your reward is your life. it's not much, but still." The leader said, "where are the fugitives?". We all watched in suspense. I balled my fists, sure that he would betray us. "north," the fox gasped, "they went north" "smell them out," the leader instructed his pack. the wolves ran past our tree, heading north.

I immediately jumped out of the tree, several  branches catching me as I fell and placing me carefully on the ground. "are you alright?" I asked, worried. We made up a fire and I began to treat the fox's wounds, with the help of Mrs Beaver.  "they were helping Tummnus. The witch got here before I did, ow!" "Sorry," I say retracting my palm, the light fading from it. I didn't know who this Tummnus was, but I guess he meant something to them. "no worries," he smiled and I stroked his fur. "are you alright? lucy asked, "well, I wish I could say their bark was worst than their bite. ow!" he said " oh stop squirming" Mrs Beaver tutted "you're worse than beaver on bath day" "Worst day of the year " Beaver commented and everyone laughed. I looked up from my work to see Peter who had sort of zoned out of the conversation. I assumed he was just watching me care for the fox, but that didn't stop me wondering. We locked eyes for a minute but then I turned away ,blushing ,back to the fox. "There," I say, leaning back, "that's about all I can do without a wand" "you have a wand," Lucy said in astonishment "of course, you can't be a witch without one" I smiled. "where is it?" Susan asked suddenly interested "the white witch took it away," I sighed "she didn't want me to try and escape when she-" I looked at my feet, not wanting them to see me cry. "when she locked you away" Peter finished. I nodded meekly. "thank you for your kindness," the fox said, breaking  the silence, "but that is all the cure I have time for " "you're leaving?" Lucy asked, defeated. "it has been a pleasure my queen, and an honour, but Aslan himself has asked me to gather more troops." the fox explained, "you've seen Aslan?" Beaver asked, "what's he like?" Mrs Beaver asked  "like everything we've ever heard" he answered "you'll be glad to have him by your side in the battle against the witch" I added. "but we're not planning on fighting any witch," Susan said. "but surely king Peter, the prophecy." the fox asked. everyone turned to Peter. we gazed at each other for a second before beaver said "we can't go to war without you" he looked away into the fire and said, "we just want our brother back."

We had walked from sunrise. we were now standing on a big cliff, looking out on Narnia "it's amazing" Lucy breathed gazing into the distance. I just smiled, taking it all in. "it really is" Peter agreed to look right at me. flustered, I looked to the beavers "now, Aslan's camp is near the stone table just across the frozen river" Beaver said "river?" Lucy looked to me, concerned. I gave her a warm smile "don't worry, the river's been frozen solid for well over a hundred years" "it's so far" Peter whined . "it's the world dear, did you expect it to be small?" Mrs Beaver asked. "smaller" Susan said while shooting her brother a cold look.

A/N Hello, it me. A bit more story development for you, (it's only a bit tho...) Also, dear god Peter's lazy if he doesn't want to cross that river to save his brother, Jesus. k that's all for now byeeee
