The clocks of a city tik-toked with a hypnotic rhyme as the hands gently turned past 12; it had become a new day. Each day carries the same mysteries of another. It was changing the ever-changing lives of all who are under the heavens. But for the city of Malsom, today was the first of December of the year 3057. The nighttime streets of Maslom were as quiet as they ever were.
The dim light of the crescent moon shining on top of the city provided some sense of comfort to the empty streets.
The lights provided from the light posts were only bright enough to make out the faint silhouette of a young man. The young man wore a suit that had not a single stain or crease.
Which was utterly at odds with his facial features; his face was dirty and covered in oil; his lips were red like the reddest cherries. His eyes strained like he had been up all night worrying about something.
"Damn, I did it again. I better leave before 'It' catch me."
The strangeness of the man's appearance, while peculiar, is not what the citizens of Maslom would bring much concern. The oddness of this situation is that man is outside at night in the first place.
The reason for this is that Maslom has this unspoken rule that everyone has to be inside before the sunsets and not come out until the sun rises. Going out at night is the same as a death sentence as the chance is that before the sunrise, the only thing left of you is the clothes on your body.
"I didn't think it would be difficult to hold back this disgusting urge." said the young man. At the same time, his eyes displayed emotions of guilt, desperation, and a hint of relief. After a deep breath, the man walked away as his figure disappeared into the darkness.
In a dark corner not far from where the man came from was a rich bloody smell lingering. Nearby were human bones, the human skeleton with bits of flesh and muscles still attached.
Strangely no matter how much the skeleton's bones wanted to fall apart, it seemed to be a force that kept it together and in one piece. Tonight was just a regular night for the city, and endless mysteries were waiting to unfold.
.....
"Another one," he said in a deep voice.
*Pitter-patter*
The sound of multiple footsteps approaches the dark corner, where the faint smell of metallic blood lingers. Four men turn the corner and find a nude young man around 20 lying unconscious against the cold concert walls.
Around the young man are some bloodstains, and the man had some splotch of blood under the skin, which was getting fainter at a visible rate.
"Sir, do we kill the abnormality or take it to the underground chamber," said the shortest man.
"Follow normal procedures for potential D+ class abnormalities. Also, it appears that a stray abnormity has attacked this man, so we will also investigate the surroundings for a D- class and above threat."
"Everyone has permission to terminate if you feel it's necessary." Responded the man at the front. The man takes another glance at the young man before turning around with the other two men.
The short man nodded and took out a phone-like device and inputted some code before opening the briefcase that he brought with
him. The man took blood samples on the floor, the young man's blood, and extracted some blood from crimson spots.
After putting the samples away, the man picked up the briefcase and proceeded to leave to follow the other men.
After some time, the sounds of police sirens came to the corner. A group of four policemen dressed in black and white uniforms in police hats had black dots at the center.
It was hard to tell what they were; however, as the policeman went under the street lamps, it uncovered that the black dots were camera lenses. Two policemen approached the naked man while the other two stood at a distance, making sure nothing unexpected happened.
The policeman who approached the young man got close while watching the surroundings, carefully lifted the young man back to the car, and drove off.
...
"Haaa Haaa" Gasping for air, the young man's eyes flash open.
"Cough, where am I? Who am I?" The young man had a confused look at the depths of his eyes before a look of realization flashed through his face. Then a more profound look of confusion and hints of panic surface.
Memories of a young man ran through his mind, imprinted into his brain from his soul. As the memory that stood out the most was the name Nassim
"Okay, that explains who I am, but why am I here and where?" Whispered Nassim
Nassim took a closer look at his surroundings. To his right was a simple bed with a single-person-sized mattress.
To his left and behind him were gray walls that looked like they made out of a concert. In front of him were vertical bars that had enough room to get some of his arm out.
Outside his room were rooms that had a similar appearance, with the ones around him being empty.
"It looks like I'm in a jail cell. Shit! Did I do something stupid that sent me to jail?"
"Those bastards must have ditched me when they heard the sirens," Nassim said in an annoyed tone.
He looked around to see if he could see some guards that could tell him why he was there.
*Bang Bang*
"Hello, Hello, is anyone there," Nassim repeated in hopes of attracting the guards' attention. After the second time, he heard some footsteps coming towards his cell.
Two men were standing about 6 foot tall wearing what Nassim could assume to be guard outfits. Nassim took a gulp and said, "Hey, can I ask you if you tell me where I am. I would appreciate it."
Both of the guards' glance at each other before the left guard says, "You are in jail." in a flat tone.
"Damn, that sucks, but at least I haven't been kidnapped to have my organs harvested." Said Nassim trying to lighten the mood, clearly failing as both guards show a cold, expressionless look.
"Once we inform the Chief of your awakening, we will proceed to take you out to investigate the situation." The two guards leave after saying their message.
'I'm alone again. I hope those guards' won't take too long. What the hell did I do to get into this mess.' Nassim sighed and decided to sit on the only bed in the cell.
