The young woman showed them the way to the pond. It was circled by a line of young oak trees, and large for a pond, water filled to the brim. Puru walked up to its edge, the rest following him.
"The fish demon that resides in this pond, has anyone see it?" Puru stared at the pond with distrust.
The woman peered into the pond as if hoping her son would arise from it any moment. "No. But the tales say it is an ancient demon that has lived here for thousands of years."
"There are no more fish demons in the world," Mihir, too, moved up to the muddy bank and bent over. "They went extinct centuries ago. I am surprised to hear one still exists."
Puru began to descend into the water, but Mihir quickly seized his arm. "Careful. Waters where fish demons reside are said to be bottomless. If you enter the pond, you may not find your way back, even though you are a divine being."
