Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Meeting the hero team

The party that arrived comprised of two females walking in the front and two males in the back. They walked to the counter where we had displayed most of the freshly baked bread. "Uncle Bob." One of the young ladies in the front of the group cutely called out. She had the innocent look with her shoulder length dirty brown hair tied in two twin tails at the side of her head. She looked like a magical girl from one of those Japanese animes on one of the 21st century earths, without all that magical girl outfits. She was obviously a healer of mage with her staff in hand. Her naïve looking face and her cute smile was able to rouse the desire to protect her in a person. I sneered hard and visibly at her.

The other lady was a young woman with dark hair and a plain face which would make others pass by without looking twice or even taking notice of her. The only thing she had going for her was the large assets, which she made sure to properly highlight by wearing a tight-fitting grey top and a short pair of shorts, displaying her long pair of nice legs.

My attention was rather on the two males behind. The first wore a set of armor and a shimmering long sword beside him. His golden hair and blue eyes were screaming the obvious. His holy aura was radiating out annoyingly. I had to hold back to not smack him to death. It was not that I hated him at first sight, but considering I preferred to use destruction as my most convenient divinity, his aura was pissing me off. Maybe it was because he was trying to stand out more than me.

"Oh, Iris." My old man called back with a fatherly smile which made the young lady smile even wider. When they got to the counter, I saw her stealing glances at me. "Riggs, you remember Iris, right? Her father is the one kind enough to help us set up this place." Iris looked down shyly, occasionally stealing glance at me.

"Hello, Riggs." Iris greeted shyly. I sneered at her with a nod of acknowledgment. I was not even bothered to respond. The atmosphere turned awkward. I could feel my old man's desire to jump at me. They were the reason I had been duped into staying there so I did not really like them. Okay, I may have been acting a little childish. The great Riggs does not act childish.

"The hell are you doing, brat?! Forgive my boy, he lacks a bit of social skills." My old man screamed and quickly apologized to Iris. I could feel killing intent directed at me from a few of the men left in the bakery, but the surprising one was the ugly gold haired bastard. He actually sent killing intent my way. 'How cute. This world's standard for picking heroes has fallen quite a bit. Mm? Interesting.' I was about to look away when something caught my attention.

"It's alright, Uncle Bob." She looked downcast, but quickly regained his composure. "That's right, Uncle Bob. These are my friends." She turned and introduced her fellow adventurers standing behind her. "This is Layla, Grain, and the blonde one is Light. Guys, this is Uncle Bob and his son Riggs." Iris introduced everyone in her group to us.

The young lady with the nice body was Layla, and the one with the hero aura was Light. The last fellow in their group called Grain wore a dark outfit. He had dark hair and some slight bags under his eyes. He had a shallow presence which would make you look past him if you were not careful. I gave him a look over and honestly, I had one thought. "He reeks". Again, the place became awkward. The one called grain awkwardly begun to smell himself.

"Stop spouting nonsense, brat and go out and make some money. You don't expect us to survive in just the bakery." My old man looked he was about to burst a vein. He probably would have strangled me at any moment if I did not take some steps to the side.

"Huh? What the hell do you want me to do?" We did not need any money. The old man was planning weird things again. 'If you came here for workation (vacation and work) that's fine, but please leave me out of it.' I pleaded with him, knowing full well he would ignore me.

"I don't care. Go sell yourself, something, anything." Just as I suspected. I felt a headache coming on. All of this could end if you just snap your fingers and end it all, but no. I swear I saw the few female and male adventurer's eyes lit up the moment my old man's words ended.

"Um, if you are looking for work, you could try and become an adventurer." Iris who had been silently listening to us the entire time finally chimed in. of course, that was what the old man was waiting to hear. With that he quickly jumped at the opportunity.

"Is that possible?" My old man asked looking like he had just heard the words of his savior. I rolled my eyes at him. I looked at the group in front of me, not deciding yet whether I should follow them or move on my own. I did not know which would be more fun. I decided to let fate play its role and shift things without me interfering with it too much.

"Of course. It would be different if it was anyone else. But I could just ask papa for you. He can help speed up your registration." Iris smiled sweetly. She was the daughter of the guild master so it made sense that she would ask her father. As for why she was willing to do such a thing was because the old man had won their hearts with the tasty cream-filled bread and pastries. Afterwards the guild master was more than happy to help set up the necessary arrangements to help the father son duo with the shop. That was also the reason the shop was right next to the guild hall.
