Chapter 2 - Plans

Kaie let out a sigh as she was finally alone. "I can't believe I'm actually Lucille..." She looked down at her skinny arms and legs. "This is nothing like my old body...I doubt I can even wave a sword around. And Lucille was such a pushover as well!"

She sighed once more and leaned against the wall of the bath. It was quite soothing to sit in the warm water, as it was something she never felt before. She held a hand to a flower that was floating towards her. "Lucille did die in the novel from Prince Altair. I've got to avoid him at all costs and get this feeble body into shape."

Kaie got out of the bath to grab some clothes, but then saw that there were only dresses laid out. She frowned and held them each one up, slightly disgusted. "But first...I've got to get a new wardrobe. It'll be impossible to train in these tight dresses."

She slipped out a slightly bearable blue one onto herself. It was still covered in frills and laces, but at least she could move a bit freely in this one. Kaie exited out the door to the bath and started heading back to her very pink room.

As she was walking down the hallway, she spotted a man wearing a red suit with a small golden cape on the side. He had dark brown hair with light blues eyes. Kaie instantly deduced that as Lucille's father, Duke Elgis Feyrer, as it was stated in the novel how he always wore his cloak on the side. She instantly jumped into her act.

Kaie formed a big smile with her mouth and started running towards Elgis. "Father!" She gave him a big hug as he patted her head.

Elgis looked down at her and frowned. "My daughter. Are you feeling unwell? You usually call me 'Dad.'"

She shook her head as she corrected her mistake quickly. Kaie gave a short laughter. "It's nothing, Dad. I just wanted to see what it felt like to call you father!"

He gave her a small smile. "Well, Lucille, I have to get to a meeting with the king. I shall be back soon."

Kaie backed off of him and smiled. "I'll be awaiting your arrival back home, Dad!" Elgis gave her one more pat on the head before finally walking away.

She let out a huge sigh as he finally disappeared. 'My mouth is going to become numb from all this smiling! How can Lucille even endure this?' Kaie made it back to her room to see Colette standing there. Her maid dipped her head. "Lady Lucille, I have prepared a carriage for you."

Kaie frowned. 'Which part of the novel are we on actually? I don't remember this happening!' She tilted her head. "Colette, may you please remind me where we are going again?"

Holding out a letter, Colette nodded. "This letter would help you remember, Lady Lucille."

{Dear Lady Lucille,

It would be a pleasure if you would take the time off to join me at a masquerade banquet at the castle. I would love to be graced with your presence.

Time: 4/13 at 12:00

Sincerely,

Prince Altair~}

Subconsciously, Kaie slightly crumpled the letter. Colette covered her mouth with her hands. "Milady! Please don't crumple the paper! It would be disrespectful to the prince!" She quickly took the letter away.

Kaie rubbed the bridge of her nose. "My apologies, Colette. I shall get ready for the banquet."

She walked into her room, closing the door behind her. She was finally alone. Kaie let out a long breath and looked up at the ceiling of the room. 'Prince Altair huh? If I remember right, Lucille was infatuated with him. She looked up to him and adored him. However, I know how he is on the inside. I must subtly show that I'm not interested in him.'

Kaie slipped on white silk gloves and a fancy headband with a white rose on her head. They fit well with Lucille's look, but she was utterly uncomfortable in them. She also found some sewing needles in one of Lucille's bags, and hid them within her dress. She felt uncomfortable without any weapons.

It was like telling a baker to go to work without letting him bring any tools. Kaie stepped out of her room and Colette gave her a smile. "You look lovely, Milady."

Kaie gave her a smile. "Thank you. Let's head to the castle now." She wasn't worried about the banquet because in her previous life, Kaie had taken etiquette classes if she was to ever sneak into a fancy ballroom or hall. She knew perfectly well how to speak, dance, and eat like a noble.

She exited the house for the first time and looked back. It shouldn't even be considered a house. It was like a huge mansion, with many windows and a beautiful courtyard and garden in the front.

There was a brown and white carriage waiting in the front with a man pulling two horses. He dipped his head when he saw Kaie. "Welcome, Milady."

Colette opened the carriage door for her as she entered. As Kaie sat down, Colette held two things out for her. "Lady Lucille, you forgot your mask and your fan."

The mask was light blue with some beads and peacock feathers on the side. The fan was also light blue, but the lace was white.

Kaie smiled and took it from her hands. "Thank you, Colette."

Right before the carriage started moving, a man wearing a white suit with a rapier on his side entered. He had blonde hair, with sharp green eyes. He dipped his head with a serious expression on his face. "I shall accompany you to the banquet today, Lady Lucille."

She quickly ran through the names that she knew. 'He's carrying a rapier...There's only one person that I read that has blonde hair and green eyes.' Kaie smiled. "Thank you, I shall be in your care today then, Knight Kerwin."

At that moment, the carriage started moving, heading towards the banquet which Prince Altair was waiting.
