I know that Max is staring at me and I can't help but feel a little guilty for running off on him,but I just had to get away from him. My father stands up and my mother flange her spoon against her cup. Humph. How old fashioned. Soon the room goes quiet and everyone is looking at my father. "Thank you all for coming tonight to welcome my daughter back home. I find that she is the most beautiful and kind daughter I could have asked for. She resembles her beautiful mother so much." He looks at my mother with so much affection and I can't help but smile.
"I also would like to thank Prince Maxwell for keeping her safe for so many years. For helping her through her life and for everything else. And to Isabella thank you both for bringing our daughter back. But I do know that the Captain and Sargent are not with us." My heart contracts at the memory of my adoptive parents. "They both volunteered to look after her and protect her with their lives.Unfortunately that happened to soon and to tragically. They will always remain in our hearts and mine and my wife's closest friends." Everyone's face has gone somber and quiet. "To the Captain and Sargent." Everyone raises their glasses and repeats his words. "To the Captain and Sargent." Old tears brim my eyes but this time they are of joy at the memories I had with the Captain and Sargent. We all continue eating when a loud noise comes from outside. Everything in the ballroom goes quiet. The sound comes again and my parents look to eachother. Then a loud crash comes outside the garden doors. Now everyone panics and rushes out around the room. Guards run from around the room and surround my parents and me.
Amber,Lily and Marie are at my side in an instant. Marie looks at me frantically. "Come your Highness we must go." "Wait. What's going on?" Amber nods to the doors. "We are being attacked." Most guards are surrounding my parents but my father notices that I am only barely protected. "No. A few of you stay with us but the rest of you go to my daughter. Max,Dex,Morrison! Get to my daughter!" All of them were leading out the guest but hear his command and rush over to me. Soon I am surrounded by a circle of soldiers and my maids are beside me. Dex is in front of me holding a shining silver sword in front of him and a deathly look is on his face that would make any smart person stop and run away. Max is right beside me looking much the same and the look on his face scares me more than Dex's. Cold, hard, defensive, and set.
I have never seen him without a soft look on his face. Soon I am being led to the door but the assailants have made it in. The soldiers waste no time. Although they are all very skilled Dex and Max are better. Much quicker, and smoother. Its like a dance to them like they grew up training for this which they probably did. I didn't notice Lily had disappeared until I glanced behind me. She was behind us lying on the ground. An assailant is standing over her,but none of the guards even pause for her. The attacker in silver and black holds a sharp blade that looks like the one that took my father over her. Time slows and I look around seeing many people lying on the ground ours and others, all I know is that I can't lose anyone else I care about. My hands go up unconsciously and the silver wave shows again. Everyone in knocked to the ground but me. Our attackers lying on the ground unmoving. I don't waste time and rush over to Lily pulling her up. I didn't kill the attackers just stunned them. "Your Highness! We must go!" Mr. Morrison has rushed to me and is fending off attackers who have come to. I nod and pass Lily to him. "Take her!" "Your Highness you need to be safe. The servants have somewhere to hide." I groan and force Lily into his arms. "She is not a servant. She is my friend! I don't plan on losing anymore friends. Now take her!" He all but reluctantly takes her and goes away.
More attackers come at me and I thank god that my parents signed me up for martial arts training. "Your Highness!" Two particular guards notice me defenseless. Dex and Max. They both fight through the throng to get to me,but I can hold my own. The first attacker comes at me and is down with a simple kick to the stomach and punch to the face. Another comes at me and I take him down too. They keep coming until Dex reaches me first. "It is very stupid of you to leave your soldiers." I shoot him a glare. "I can handle this. I know how to fight!" Just in time to prove it to him I take down two more men at once. "See?" Dex grunts but dosent acknowledge me. Max has reached us now and each of them is defending beside me. "I guess those martial arts classes really did pay off." I smirk. "And you said I wouldnt ever need them. But I will admit it is really hard to fight in this dress." Dex's cold voice cuts in. "A princess should not fight. You would just get in the way." My anger towards him resurfaces and I use it against the attackers. I don't know when we reached the doors but soon we are outside and running down a narrow hallway. My heels click-clacking along the way. We reach another door and Dex is pushing us both inside. It closes and seals off any noises that may be coming from outside.
I take this chance to whirl on Dex. "I would just get in the way? Seriously? Just because I am a girl dose not mean I dont know how to fight! My adoptive parents signed me up for martial arts classes when I was 8! I have been training my whole life. I became top of my class and I hated the classes then because of the brutality of them, but I sure do appreciate them now! Without them I would have been defenseless and a petty, scared princess!" Dex just glares at me. I soften my voice. "Look. At least you got to grow up knowing who you really were. In one day I found out there was a hidden kingdom that I just happened to be the princess of,got on an advanced space ship, and watched as both of my parents were taken from me. I have been running for days. I didn't want to run anymore. So like it or not if I see someone that needs my help I am going to help them. And you won't stop me." "I wouldn't be so sure about that princess. I am a soldier and it is my job to protect you. So royalty or not I will do what is necessary to protect you. And if that means having to leave a servant behind to do it so be it. They know what to do in time of attack." I shake my head at him. "You don't get it do you?" He doesn't respond just keeps his cold stone mask on his face that I have grown used to. "They aren't just servants. They are people just like us. And just like us some of them need to be protected. They are more than servants, they have become my friends." Dex snorts. "Friends? Royalty isnt supposed to be friends with peasants." My anger boils over at this point.
"Not supposed to be friends as if. What about Amelia? She was a peasant wasnt she? You became friends with her and fell in love with her. You and Max. But you pushed her away didnt you?" Dex's mask falters at the mention of Amelia. A look comes to his eyes that makes me wonder. "You may think that you don't need anyone, but the more you push people away, the more you tell yourself you would rather be alone, the more people will stop trying. If you want to remain cold, cruel, and alone forever,be my guest, but believe me thats not a life I would want to live. In fact thats not a life at all. So either stop acting like a jerk who doesn't care about anybody but himself or find someone else to bother because I don't want to be brought down with you in your brooding ways. Act like a soldier or get the hell out of my way because I have a friend who needs me. Most friends are forever a title is not." Dex harshly glares at me but doesnt say a word and steps out of my way. I grab Lilys hand and pull her behind me all the while feeling a pair of silver eyes stare a hole into the back of my head.
