Chapter 13 - Bugs

A surf of coldness struck my body as I entered the room. The secrecy of the room was accompanied by some RGB glow. The room provided a gaming vibe that is well recognized among teenagers. The only oddity was it doesn't reside in a gaming computer, but a supercomputer. The supercomputer was installed in the room to manage any data from the plants. Our school produces a lot of data from the students, plants, and even the administration system. The technology is so advanced everything that can be diagnosed will produce a lot of data to be computed. As a solution, our school bought a supercomputer for the staffroom, classrooms and the garden.

A computer was placed next to the main entrance. A high-end computer with a high aesthetic and holographic monitor. The computer controls the operation of the garden's supercomputer. Rahim was sitting on a chair in front of the computer's table. His face wrinkled while he was reading something on the computer. He looks at me, then he continues reading. I went to sit beside him.

"What are you going to show," I asked

"Look at this," Rahim clicked on a tab.

'Pelintang Institute exploded and went aflame. UN representative will follow up with news.'

My eyes frowned upon the computer. Rahim displayed a piece of interesting news. The news created dozens of controversial topics one could imagine. It's unusual for an incident like this would happen. The UN must have most likely took some intervention and investigations on this incident already.

"You know what you should check right?" Rahim asked me.

Without returning a word, I pushed Rahim's hand aside and took the control pad. The hologram is just an old-style keyboard but lighter and more compact. No time was wasted. I quickly typed my school's official webpage and clicked enter. In a split second, the school's website showed something more interesting.

'The website is undergoing a maintanence.'

I smirked. This kind of thing would only happen once a big occasion happened. The website will be shut down for some unknown reason. This thing happened once when 'that' incident occurred. School webpages around the world have been showing their cameras installed since the treaty. A preventive measurement was made to make everyone was safe at times. Once something out of the ordinary or bad happened, the system will block public access to schools' web pages to cover their blunders.

Rahim's chair shrieked as he stood. He fixed his shirt to a more formal position. He held his hand in front of me and asked me for my phone. After that, he walks behind the supercomputer and went silent. I ignored the absence of Rahim since I know he's still there. I continued surfing the internet.

Thousands of news flooded the internet. None of them showed amusing headlines. Pelintang Institute's news shocked peoples around the world.

'Pelintang Institute, one of the world's most important research lab, exploded. -BBC'

'A lab exploded. What you need to know. -CNN'

More and more news about Pelintang Institute can be found as the more I surfed the internet. After some outlook on the news, I opened a social media, Snapinsbook. A combination of old social media that were popularized by teenagers. I look at the conversations and posts in the public menu.

'Pelintang Institute blown up by terrorists -Anonymous.'

'The institute broke because the gods are mad upon us! -Anonymous'

Crazy and crazier controversy pops up on social media until one piqued my interest.

'The Pelintang Institute has been working in shadows. A former worker told what's inside. -InterCyber'

InterCyber. A name that was well known by everyone around the world, especially after the InterCyber group was the one that helped us in 'that' incident. InterCyber is an international group consisting of pro hackers and strategists. They also managed to expose the faulty system in the UN's treaty. I got a chance to talk to a member of InterCyber amidst the heat of 'that' incident, but I gave it to Rahim since I was busy negotiating. From that day, I would read everything they said and wrote on public platforms.

Suddenly, a hand touched my shoulder while I was reading the post. I turned behind and saw a 'ghost'. I was shocked and fell to the floor. Rahim laughs as he saw my reaction. I grit my teeth, suppressing my anger.

"You're mad right?" I asked him.

"For what?"

"The trick I pulled when we were in the park," I look at him.

"You can say... Yeah. Anyway, it's settled. What were you looking at?" he held his hand, trying to give a lift.

I took his hand and stood up. "Nothing really. Only an InterCyber's post"

"Really! Why didn't you call me? I was downloading some data from the supercomputer," he gave me back my phone.

I stood silent with a confused face. I took my phone and hide it in my pocket. Rahim tried to read the post. Suddenly, the main door was opened. Farina gawks her head to see what we're doing.

"Let's go! The bell rang already."

"Dang, I was just gonna read this."

I knocked on Rahim's head and rushes him to go out. He walked towards the door and went out. I followed behind him. Leaving the computer room.
