Thanks to his comatose state, Zaen had lost all sense of time and place. He didn't know how long he had been asleep for, but it appeared to be nighttime. He slowly shifted his gaze towards his body, hoping to see it in a thrashed state. However, he couldn't see much because of the blanket that was covering him.
However, even without looking at his body, he knew he was okay because he was sore all over which meant he was recovering, albeit rather slowly. At least he would live for a bit longer. He was about to try and sit back and relax when through the slits of his eyelids, he saw someone sitting next to his bed with their head next to his feet. It didn't take Zaen more than a second to recognise who it was...
'This kid...' Zaen slowly shook his head and even doing that took a lot out of him, 'Looks like I'm still too weak to do anything.'
He was weak but he was wide awake and began slowly stroking his little brother's hairs as Aeron drooled all over the sheets. Zaen had asked Aeron a hundred times to try and get rid of the disgusting habit. But at that moment, even Zaen found it cute and smiled.
"So you're finally up." Ravener's voice echoed in the room.
Zaen slowly turned towards the window and saw the lady leaning against it while the moon shone brightly behind her. It looked like she had been sleeping as well but Zaen's slightest movement had woken her up. She yawned once more before walking over to Zaen and pulling a chair for her to sit next to him.
"I guess you're the one... who saved me...?" Zaen asked in his weak and croaky voice.
"That would be taking it a bit far. If you want to thank someone, thank your brother who stopped the bleeding when he did. If he had been late even by a minute, it would've been too late for me to do anything." Ravener replied before slowly ripping off the bandage on his shoulder to reveal the deep scar underneath it, "Everything looks good here. It's a good thing you're healing faster than expected. At this rate, you should be back on your feet in a couple of days. Perks of being a Champion, I guess."
Zaen hadn't been paying much attention till now. He was a bit concerned about the presence of unknown people in his house. But considering the state he was in and the fact that these people had saved him, he was a bit relaxed. Yet the moment the word, 'Champion' came out of the woman's mouth, his ears perked up.
His immediate thought was that the woman and her partner must belong to the special force. They were involved in the dealings with the ghouls and thus they were the only ones who could possibly know about him being a champion.
It might've seemed like Zaen was hastily jumping to a conclusion, but he wasn't. His thinking was based on what the Artifact had informed him that he was humanity's last champion as the other champions were either missing or dead. And the lady in front of him didn't look to be either lost or dead to him.
Moreover, who else other than the Impounders could've found his true identity? It wasn't like anyone else knew about the existence of ghouls other than him and the special force. Thus in Zaen's mind, the woman had to be an Impounder. That was the only explanation he could think of.
'I can't do much even if she is an Impounder... Dang it! I'm not in a condition to fight and even if I was, I can't risk anything with Aeron being here.' Zaen tried to keep his eyes on the woman when he realised something, 'Where is her partner?'
The situation was getting progressively worse. He was the one who caused this mess and he wasn't going to let Aeron pay for something he did. The more he thought about it, the lesser options he had to ensure Aeron's safety. And right now, the option he had in front of him was to somehow subdue the woman before her partner showed up.
It was then when Zaen suddenly had a light bulb moment and quietly checked his stats. He had to make sure everything would work put just like he wanted or else Aeron would be in danger.
'Alrighty... looks like it'll work. But first...'
"How long have I been out for?" Zaen asked her like anyone who had been unconscious a long time would.
"About two days. I thought you would be out for at least a week, but I guess you're actually special. By the way, the name's Ravener-"
Before Ravener could even complete introducing herself, Zaen jumped up as a dagger materialised in his hands. Ravener couldn't believe what she was seeing. Even if Zaen was healing faster than she had anticipated, it shouldn't have been possible for him to do such strenuous physical activity all of a sudden.
Yet he had jumped over her and was now standing behind her, his dagger at her throat. She then saw Zaen's exposed shoulder and saw that it was healing on its own. But in the midst of the ruckus woke Aeron up and the first thing he saw was Zaen, however, the sight didn't look pretty at all.
"Zaen don't! She was the one who saved your life!" Aeron screamed and his scream brought Paragon into the room as well.
Paragon was as hot-headed as they come. The moment he saw Zaen with his dagger on Ravener's neck he threw all sense of reasoning right out of the window.
"Let her go, you CRAZY BASTARD!" Paragon yelled at the top of his lungs, but Zaen didn't react, which angered Paragon even more, "Fine. By the time I'm done with you, you'll wish that you never got off your fcking bed!"
"Shut up, Paragon!" Ravener seemed to be the only one to have a brain there, even though her life was on the line, she had to resolve the situation for everyone's good, "Zaen, there seems to be a misunderstanding between us. Let's all just calm down and think about it-"
"Calm down, my foot!" Paragon roared in fury as he charged in, "No one pulls a knife at my wife and gets to calm down."
