The next morning, Anna saw how miserable Ladislas was and chuckled.
"I didn't think a half-demon could get sore muscles," she teased.
Ladislas threw her a glare, before conceding. "I didn't know either. I thought I got defective genes from my mother's side."
"Or you have never really worked out a day in your life," Anna interjected. "See? This is the essence of life. You never know the small walk you took can get you sore feet for a few days."
"You are giving me a glimpse into the lives of humans?" he asked.
"This understanding is much more effective than the philosophy you so love, is it not?" Anna asked as she got him an icepack for his muscles.
"It is a philosophy all on its own, one dependent on making me suffer."
"Suffering is the reason for our existence. Without it, would we be alive?" she asked. After a thought, she added another thing. "The very fact your suffering is embedded in your immortality is amusing," she whispered.
