They walked back to the living quarters and took turns to freshen up and go to sleep. This was the busiest time in the apartment. Everyone wanted to be the first to get to bed, but there was only one bathroom where they could shower. The other one had a toilet and nothing else.
Anna, on the other hand, was seated on the bunk bed, waiting for the long line to clear. Pops was the first to change and come into the room. He had used the small bathroom sink in the other room and washed his hair.
"Shouldn't you cut the line and go to bed earlier?" he asked. "You worked an eighteen-hour shift," he said blandly as he rubbed the excess water from his hair.
Anna smiled. "I am fine. It's better to go last," she said.
"Well, all the hot water will be used up. You're a weird girl," he grumbled.
"It's okay. I like taking cold showers," she said placidly.
