Ayesha Point of View
He was dressed sharply in a fresh white shirt with a faded black tie and black slacks. He appears very tidy in his clothes and with his clean-cut hairstyle. His body and height improved as well, indicating that he got it throughout his training or as a result of his profession.
He had such a pleasant appearance. Renz appeared to be having a good time with our other classmates while holding a drink in his right hand. His eyes twinkled with delight. His gaze was drawn to me for a brief moment. My lips made a short smile for him, but he didn't respond. My body tightened as he abruptly averted my sight.
I realized he was being watched by other members of the section, particularly my classmates. The others exchange glances with me and Renz, undoubtedly perplexed as to why we aren't seated together or found in one place. Perhaps they are still unaware of what occurred, and I am grateful that just a few people are aware of it. Above importantly, the fact that we were close at the time is not hidden from the public eye. It just so happened to change since we both ruined the friendship we built.
"Are you okay?" Helga asked who are at our table since every table can occupy 8 persons but I didn't bother myself to respond. I don't know if she was truly concerned or just sipping on a new gossip. I was tired of saying that I am okay. She tried to ask a follow-up question but she doesn't receive a proper answer.
I believe that if someone didn't understand your words probably, he or she won't understand every little act of silence.
I sighed and mumbled, "Jerk!"
"Huh!"
"Nothing!" I said as I distracted my attention from the ongoing discussion.
"Ayesha, Ron, let's grab some food at the buffet table," Mandy said after some time, as she pulled Ron and me to the buffet station. Suddenly, my mood changed when I saw the food served but I also immediately regretted it when I realized that the dish was mixed with seafood.
I just took another dish and then the three of us went back to our table. This time, we exchanged seat positions with Ron that made her seat next to Helga. Then, we started eating. Later Ron suddenly moved toward me whispering.
"What?" I asked because I can't understand her. After all, she's talking while her mouth is full. "Can you swallow it first your food? The love of your life might be disappointed," she did what I said and then drink water.
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes.
Helga tried to butt in but Ron halted her reason for Helga to move a little glaring at her.
Mandy waved her right hand in front of my face. "Back to the topic." My eyes involuntarily blinked. "Hey, if a guy, no! If a man is truly into you, whoever you are, he will still accept your flaws. If not then dumped him. As simple as that," she expressed.
It took me a minute to digest in my mind what she's saying because when it comes to relationships, I came to know her before having many mutual understanding relationships. "It is better to show him the truth than showing him many lies." She took her drinks and gulped them at once.
"Huh, coming from you Mandy, the queen of MU!" Ron jokingly said and we all laughed.
"True," I agreed.
"But honestly speaking, I just noticed that Renz, the jerk earlier, was looking at you like a fool. Don't you feel awkward?" she abruptly asked that is out of the topic enough for the three of us can hear. I thought about her question but I can't come up with a response so I just smiled as an answer.
Soon after, Mrs April Roque, the organizer of this reunion and our adviser when we were in junior high started the program. The beginning was lively because of her good sense of fun and leadership and so with her every line she dropped was wholesome, even before followed by an opening speech coming from our Science teacher before named Devi Santiago.
"After all, it's my pleasure to meet you all after how many years. My heart was jumping with overpowered happiness to see you all attending tonight that despite the busy schedule of your chosen career. I can't explain or describe how glad I am that I became part of your journey towards your accomplishment. Now, seeing you all became my strength and my lifetime treasure," she spoke up with her bright smile that change the atmosphere, from lively to gloomy.
I, somehow, understand Mrs Roque spoke up because I am experiencing her place. That as an educator, seeing your students' success seems like winning a lottery.
"What was that! This is supposed to be a happy day but why am I telling this? By the way, I will still grab this chance to apologize for being almost late because something came up. I'm glad that my nephew drove me here," she added after her long opening speech.
Right after that was the unexpected slideshow of events portraying the high school years, we've been together. Most of the photos were class pictures, stolen snapshots from the different events like Foundation days, Valentine's days, Nutrition Months, Buwan Ng Wika, Quiz bee, Journalism and many more.
Many complained because of the ugliness of the photographs they took. There are also who happens that their mouths open, someone fighting over with the ball, someone was stumbled during the tournament, someone laughing and many more awkward moments.
All in all, those are portrayed from the past.
"Ayesha, let's play!" Ron pulled me forward because he didn't have a partner in the game. It's girls versus boys no matter if you team up with the other sections.
I looked closely at who was participating in the boys and it turned out that Renz and Ron's ex-boyfriend were included. I already realize why this friend of mine suddenly became combative. I feel like the host meant for Renz and me as well as Ron and his ex-boyfriend to play.
The mechanics of the game are simple, rotate the marble inside the glass while walking towards the opposing team and the opposing team will shoot the marble back into the glass. If the marble cannot be placed on the other side while rotating into the glass, the point will be given on the other side.
Ron will be the first to do the task but not far away from the other side, the marble had fallen so the score went across. "It's the marble's fault. It can't get along with the flow of the process," she said knowingly.
The other team turned and it went well. I saw how Ron's face frowned.
"Oh, it's my turn," Renz said and he did the mechanics flawlessly as if he was an expert with the so-called, I do not hear the name of the game.
Then, I'll be the next to do the game but unfortunately, my way of rotating the marble was strengthened so I hit the marble in Renz's face unexpectedly. I covered my mouth after I realized what I had done.
"Oh, my gosh! Sorry," I said abruptly, "Does it hurt?"
"It hurts. It's just that it does that unexpectedly," he meaningfully replied. I heard Ron gasp. Others are murmuring what he meant.
The game ended that the boys' team won and we losers received a punishment. We will just write our full name in small letters with our asses.
I suddenly want to complain to my parents because they name me so long.
I saw how Renz laughed and I felt embarrassed as to what Ron reacted with it.
There were more games to follow and I didn't bother to participate so somehow, I was relieved of my self-esteem. But I thought my peaceful watching of the players would end. But I just thought so.
The host draws two numbers placed in the jar but she did not say what numbers it is. "Whoever the person is inside as long as he or she has the number is acceptable. Now, look at the numbers on the bottom of your seat. Whoever the two people have the number I will mention will come here in front and do the drill."
My heart beats so fast and the next thing I knew I'm with Vener standing next to me in front of everyone.
