Chapter 14 - Glance of his (14)

Ayesha Point of View

I prepared myself early to go to school since vacation had ended. Another journey will go to start to be added to the last chapter. Another adjustment period that brought a lot of positivity and regain energy.

"Good morning, miss Sandoval," the students greeted me as a passed through along the corridor and I greeted them back.

I looked at the students chatting along the hallway about how great and happy their vacations are. Some are can't move on and want to get an extended vacation.

When you go on vacation, life becomes a beautiful paradise because of undefined emotions, somehow, you feel at peace, nature is enchanting, great food, family quality time, and the tension fades away.

In our family, we have endless conversations with them, and my mother is so busy, lovingly making all of our preferred dishes aside from our nature adventure.

However, when my vacation ends, I realize that my time is over and that I must return to my work. Reality has returned to haunt me! Then everyone is sad, crying, yet delighted that I will return, and they expect my return with bated breath since my siblings were working around the town. I bring my pleasant memories back with me every year and cherish them. That's just how things go in life! That's why I understand the litany of all students since classes had started.

When I entered my class, I let them write an essay about how they spent their vacation, how they feel and what they have learned. That would be my common ground on how to present my lesson the next we meet.

My classes ended quickly, like a blur.

"How's your day?" a familiar voice moved toward me. Even if I don't peek at who owns the voice, I already figured out who it is. I flipped the pages of the book I was reading and continue to read it since I was about to finish the chapter. He, then, stood up but I didn't bother to. It took a few minutes for me to finish the chapter as it was exactly he came back holding two plates of dessert. He put in the cake in front of me and the other one was in front of him. I looked at him seriously as if I was wondering why he put the cake in front of me.

"Want to taste? That is a carrot cake,"  Vener said referring to the cake in front of me. It was easy to be fed up with sweet foods and I'm not fond of sweets, actually but upon hearing that it was a carrot, I suddenly have the urge to taste the cake. "Try it!"

"It will suit to your taste," he said with assurance. I raised an eyebrow. Assurance is a big word and that's what I need.

Giving an assurance to someone is not as easy as counting numbers from zero to ten.

"Sure?" I asked to make sure. He nodded as a reply. Why not try it? I scoop and taste it. He's right and I finished the slice of carrot cake. "So, who bake it?"

"Me," Vener proudly said. My eyes widened. Is it true? I'm amazed. He's even better when it comes to this thing because I simply cooked and failed. All I know is to cook rice and a bunch of leafy vegetables.

"You are. I wish all," I said sincerely.

"It was my first time to bake a carrot cake. I just grab some slice for you to taste it, maybe you can give comments."

"Me? Are you sure? You know that I'm not fond of sweets, right? Not that I'm on a diet. It's not my thing. Diet is not on my vocabulary," I blurted.

"That's why I want your opinion," he argued in a calm voice.

"Just be aware of the glucose content but don't compromise the real taste of the cake," I think twice with my answer. I was not sure of it.

"Noted," as if he took some note in his head.

"Hey, don't mind it. Oh, it's just a random thought," I took back what I said but he just laughed at me.

A moment later, I decided to go home holding some slices of carrot cake place in a box. I have some stuff to do both in my classes tomorrow and for my graduate school.

As I arrived at our unit, I immediately put the cake inside the fridge and went inside the room to get the change.

I was drowning when Ron barged in and disturbed me to just interrogated me who gave me the carrot cake. What is the big deal, anyway!

"Oh, come on," then I went back to what I am doing.

"Isn't it odd?" Ron started as if she thinks of something else. I put down the pen I was holding and face her. "You're not into sweets but I'm wondering why he gave you a cake even if he knows it already."

"I told him that taste buds are opposite to mine and that you love sweets. Even before, when I buy chocolate. I just took a bit and it's yours," I claimed.

"No, that's not what I mean," I poked her head and she flinched.

"You and your overacting mind wondering of something impossible, you better stop," I hit her but not hard and she managed to deflect it.

"No, no. What I mean is that there is something fishy, something's wrong," she let out. She looked at me intently making an effort to figure out what's into me.

I heaved a sigh. Like what others affirmed, "Never assume. Never react. Unless stated."

"Don't look at me that way, it scares me," but Ron just smiled.

"I was just thinking about how this is the first time I've seen you from this perspective," Ron said.

"However, I -I don't have the type of complexion that worth staring at." She just shrugged and went to the fridge and get the cake. She asked permission but I didn't mind at all and went back to what I was doing.
