Chapter 5 - Madness

'Yeah, you're dead.'

Unaware, Josh had triggered Lisha onto him.

Although ready to punch the shit face she has yet to see, Lisha had to tackle the problem of light. Because with all the care of the world, no preparation could be done in the dark.

Thankfully, Josh also wanted to stay in the dark, else he wouldn't have accepted so readily. What did he want to hide?

Moreover, wasn't the first thing to do, be to search in the room that could help?

'Tch'

Lisha immediately thought of Nat's particular situation. But as to what exactly he wanted she didn't know.

But if he were to light the room out of the blue then 'accidently' would she have to hit him with her spike. But it's not as if he would escape this fate anyway.

She still wanted to listen to his plan first.

"Oh, then what is your plan?" 'I swear I won't hit you just after.'

"Well, on our way across the floor we found two PAC."

"No wonder." 'Where did they found this money eating weapon?'

"Yeah with that, it's pretty sure that we can disable the zombies for a time."

Among its few achievements, the military created the Portatif Alarm Core, short for PAC, which ability is to trigger a discrepancy between animals and their core in a radius of 15 meters for 1 minute. By using the core of a B rank monster as a consumable the device would then overdrive and melt its components. Once the alarm rang, they go into a catatonic state and are unable to move but... wouldn't she also be targeted?

No, she definitely would! With her highest stat being luck, she would. For sure!

Once again Lisha resolved herself to smash the bastard, who wanted to kill her.

'What? He doesn't know? It doesn't matter!''

'Listening to him it seems like he's also not aware of the Nyx pack. Else we wouldn't be happy to use this tactical weapon on mere undead.'

"-Coughs- How many do you have?"

"Enough. And you, do you have something to propose. These are quite precious weapons for desperate needs."

'But isn't it ONE of those situations?' But she tried to test the water. Anyway, she was ready to smash his head with her spike. She only needed to know where to hit first.

"Well," Here we go, "Knowing that's a study room of the great Pantheon library, there might still be something here. Like an AQT-4."

"No way there is still one here. It's best to use the alarm instead of wasting time."

'Hmph, not even trying to search for it. It's clear as day that he doesn't want the light.' Now it was sure that if she were to switch on her lamp he'd attack her.

'With only one arm the fight was lost from the start if she didn't use her concealment but maybe... yeah maybe it'd work. I already started it.'

"Coughs coughs coughs"

"Are you okay Lisha?" Oh, Nat just spoke?

"It's fine... no, not really -coughs-"

"Want medicines? You didn't stop coughing since we arrived." Oh Josh, yeah give me these 'medecines'.

"Well Lisha it must be just cold, are you that-" Nat tried to speak but abruptly ended her sentence.

"Nevermind." I don't know how but I swear I heard her winced. Even with the mayhem made by the zombie.

'Just wait'

"Josh, sorry, but I'm gonna take these pills in the end."

"Good, I don't want our helper to fall while we run."

'Yeah, of course. Of course....'

"Oh but, for your face... I'm gonna light up the place."

"Cough wait let me ready up before... it's been a moment since I've shown my face. A-at 3, you can light up." 'My spike needs some adjustment, that is.'

"It's that much... Okay I've got the pills in hand."

"1"

"2"

In the darkness of the room, Lisha stood up with her spike, her noise hidden by the noise made by the zombies.

With only one hand, her chance was low but since the beginning, she played the card of the weak girl with a traumatic experience. Whoever met her wouldn't think that she was ready to beat the crap out of them.

"3"

Flash

Flash

Right at the end of the countdown Lisha turned her eyes sideways and lighted up her lamp to max luminosity right in front of them. In no time, the room lighted up as if in the daytime.

Short but decisive, the action blinded the two others and let her a second to act.

Seeing Josh with a gun pointed in her direction she knew she took the right decision.

In two steps, she crossed the distance between them and did what she did to all the bastards that slighted her leadership before: She beat him into a pulp.

A vertical hit struck Josh's hand holding the gun in a resounding crack.

"Aaargh" Only to be followed 360 full momentum hit on the head, to compensate for her right arm. Not understanding a thing that was happening to him, Josh tried to defend himself the next hit to his head stunned him.

Lisha now sure that the dude was full of ill intentions didn't relent her strikes. Even as Josh fell to the ground she continued to hit.

Glancing to her left she saw Nathalie curled up into a ball, hands on her head with eyes closed shut. It didn't take a genius to know she was the real one traumatize.

Gained but a new source of rage, she aimed the sharp edge of her spike the bruised Josh on the ground.

"Aaaaaah!!!"

As if she was possessed by a vengeful ghost, she thrust her spike on the bastard. Legs, arms and body none were sparred by her. The rhythmic bang made by the undead seemed to embolden her, to cheer her up, to push her further.

She was venting.

Although Lisha felt fine for what the world threw at her she was in no way okay. If someone was traumatized in this room it'd be her.

Fleeing for hours zombies with the vain hope of friends to help her, then dying pitifully atop a bus only to wake up as the undead she hated for her dead sister... with full knowledge that she killed, wolfed down people, for who knew how long... That was her. That was Lisha.

She was happy.

Unaware of the glint in her eye and warmth in her chest. She continued to hit. Driven by the fresh blood coating her spike until an alarm rang inside her ears.

A noise crisp and unnerving went to the deepest recess of her mind. Taken aback she fell on the ground and saw a silhouette bolt out of the room, stepping on the pile of zombie to disappear into the distance.

Gathering all her strength, she looked at the small device of hell on the ground.

'What... happened?' Not caring about what she did the second before she focused all her energy to reach out to the torturing device.

She felt that if she didn't switch it off, she would truly die this time.

'No way I'm gonna last one minute.'

With the PAC only at one meter away of her what shouldn't have taken a sweat to do seemed like an impossible task.

She felt like someone put weights on her to pin her on the ground.

Ever so slowly, with time passing like an eternity, her hand closed in the device.

With gritted teeth and blurred vision, she did one last stretch to grasp the device and switch it off.

ClICK

It was a noise akin to heaven itself to her ears. That move used all she had left of energy and with no will to resist Lish fell asleep like a log.
