Dan was sleeping peacefully in his bed, or that is what someone would think if they saw him. He was thinking about what the system told him earlier on. The fact that he would not receive any mechanical growth.
That was good for him. He liked that idea, the idea of him growing stronger by fighting, training and gaining battle experience. It gave him an easy mind. The fact that he didn't need to wonder about how he got this strong.
Dan was the type of person who liked to know how something worked. Although he could fly with wind magic he preferred not to because he had this fear of falling down from several hundred metres.
He would rather have wings since he knew that he could trust his wings and understood the concept behind it. He hated getting anywhere near large bodies of water because he did not know what was underneath it. The only thing he trusted was the solid ground he walked on because he knew it wouldn't disappear but every once in a while he would get this indescribable feeling of fear.
Now that he would grow stronger by fighting and training, Dan's fear that his fake strength would disappear was alleviated.
It was the middle of the night and darkness covered the sky. It was the hour of thieves, thugs and everything that went bump in the night. The only thing that lit up the sky was the crescent moon.
Dan woke up and sat up straight. Right now he was sleeping in an inn that belonged to the carriage company. They had several inns in several towns and villages so that there passengers could sleep peacefully and enjoy their time.
Dan looked to the side to see Charlie and Kan asleep in a bed. Kan was asleep next to Charlie's feet on his bed. Crion was asleep in the corner of the room in her human form where she had spun a web for herself.
Dan removed his blanket of himself and stood up. He walked over to Crion who was asleep and woke her up by rubbing her hair. She woke up and looked at Dan with all eight of her eyes. It was a little intimidating but Dan quickly got over it. "We're going somewhere."
Crion let herself down slowly to the ground. Dan then walked up to Charlie who was still fast asleep. He woke up him up and before he could even open his eyes Kan had woken up.
Kan stood up and licked Dan who scratched his throat and ears for him. "Go back to sleep," After a while of gently coaxing Kan to go back to sleep.
Charlie groggily rubbed his eyes and blinked several times. "Let's go." Dan said.
Charlie followed Dan half asleep. He put on his jacket and shoes and walked.
Before leaving Dan left a note, it was in only a language only Dan and Pedro could understand after all they came up with it as children. To be honest it was just random gibberish that did not make any sense even to Dan and Pedro.
Dan used wind magic to destroy Crion's web and then set it on fire. He did not need someone entering the room while he was away and seeing it.
"Ok..." Dan tapped on Charlie's face repeatedly until the kid was fully awake. "This is just part of your training, make sure you watch because you will have to do this later on. Do you understand?" Dan's voice had changed from how he usually was, it was serious and uptight.
Charlie nodded his head as he understood. He wanted to see what his training would be like after all he hated the theory and stuff Pedro taught him, not that he understood anyways.
"Don't make any noise, walking silently and slowly, stealth over speed, do not wake these people up ok?"
They crept down the stairs of the silent inn. Although it was an inn today it was closed as there were travellers who liked to sleep early in the night.
Dan opened the wooden door of the inn and out they walked. Crion and Charlie followed without asking questions and after a few minutes of walking they stopped. "Crion, take him to the southern outskirts of this town and wait for me there, I'll be with you in thirty minutes."
Crion nodded and grabbed Charlie by the arm. "Wait! Wait! Why should I follow her? I don't know her, I'm not following her at all."
"Shut up and just follow her, I'll be with you shortly, use that time to get to know each other. Go now."
Before Charlie could even speak anymore Crion pulled him away and silently slinked of into the night. Dan breathed a sigh of relief. He lit himself a cigar and scaled up a building. He reach the side and saw the carriage. There were several gaurds stationed in front of it.
After what happened this morning then it was more than necessary. The gaurds were in pairs of two each holding a spear and standing in front of alternate carriages.
Dan waited for a few minutes taking his time to enjoy his cigar as he was in no rush. As he finished his cigar he tossed it and stepped on it.
➡️Invisibility skill activated.
With his entire body becoming invisible Dan leaped of the building. He aimed to land on top of the carriage and as soon as he was about to land he called upon the winds breaking his fall. He was on top of the driver carriage which was responsible for the entire carriage. He walked slowly jumping from carriage to carriage without making a noise until finally he reached his carriage.
As Dan listened he figured out that the two gaurds were making casual conversation. "And then the dog just jumped and nearly bit my nose of."
"Nah, that's crazy."
"The guy is a psychopath, he also tried cutting my head of."
"Nah, Jit trippin!"
Dan didn't bother listening to them anymore. He needed to get inside but he couldn't get in through the front door. Although he was invisible the door just opening up on it's own was shady as hell.
The only way inside was for him to make his own opening. The best way was from up to.
"What shall I use? Fire? No that is to bright. Explosions? To loud! Brute strength? No that is loud as well, I have to get the gaurds away from the carriage and enter from the door."
After thinking for a while an idea came to Dan on how to distract the gaurds. It just had to be a big emergency right?
Dan pointed his finger at the building he was standing on earlier. He focused for a while before a soft whisper came from Dan's mouth.
"Explode!"
BOOOOOOM!
A loud explosion that startled all the gaurds was heard. The simple explosion did not just stop there.
BOOOOOM!
BOOOOOM!
BOOOOOM!
Several large explosions followed suit in stead of the first explosion. It was a sight to see.
The gaurds after standing still for what seemed like ages although it was only 20 seconds rushed towards where the explosions had taken place.
After all the building was one of the three inns in the small town made for their passengers. Dan had set of the explosions without knowing that the building belonged to the carriage company.
Had it been just any other building then the gaurds would have not moved at all. Maybe sometimes luck was the most important thing in life.
Dan jumped of the carriage roof and entered the carriage. The normal lights that were on were of. Dan walked down the hall and held his ear to the compartment door. Although he knew that the owner was most likely gone and asleep in of the carriages he had to make sure.
'One heartbeat! That's good!'
Dan slid the door open and the compartment was just like it was last time he entered except for several broken boxes and glass on the rugged floor.
Dan walked over to the box from earlier where he knew the elf was inside and opened it. There she was. Dan could tell that she had been crying a lot as her eyes were red and swollen. She looked malnourished as well.
"Hey, I told you I would save you tonight, did I not? Now do not make any noise while I free you or else I will have to knock you out, do you understand?" The elf nodded her head.
"Ok." Dan removed the piece of cloth in her mouth that restricted her from breathing. The girl took a deep breath.
"Who...who are you? Where are you" she asked.
"Who am I? That is none of your business is it? Don't ask anymore question or else."
The girl seemed to comply as if she was used to absurd demands. After all it was her business to know who this person who was saving her was.
Dan picked up the tied girl and walked with her over his shoulder. If a normal person saw it then it would seem like she was floating as Dan was invisible.
"I knew it!" An angry voice was heard as soon as Dan stepped out of the compartment. He looked to the left to see who it was.
It was the middle aged pervert.
"How about you release that stealth ability of yours, you underground assassin." he said.
"Assassin? I'm not an assassin. I wish I was, I would spend my time just killing people, my adoptive father once told me that I should do a job that I love, I didn't understand what he meant but now I guess I do."
"I know you are an assassin sent by Minna, if you let go of my merchandise then I give you a gentleman's promise that I will let you join me and I will pay you handsomely."
➡️Invisibility skill deactivated.
"You!" The man was startled to see Dan. After all he wasn't expecting him.
"You see now I got to kill you because you are a witness and I don't need you blabbing your mouth."
"What are you talk-"
Before the man could even finish speaking his head flew of as Dan slapped him with full force.
His blood splurted all over the place and before it could hit Dan he used the elf as an umbrella to protect himself from the blood.
_________
Dan descended from the air using fire to slow down his fall until he was on the ground. He would have had used wind but he needed Crion and Charlie to see him and as soon as he landed he saw Charlie and Crion walking up to him.
He got the elf girl of him and threw her on the floor. Dan summoned his sword and cut of the rope that tied her hands and feet.
"Who is the girl?" Charlie asked.
Dan grabbed the girl and showed her face to Charlie. "Take a guess!"
"Is... she... Is she an elf?" He asked.
"Correct..." Dan let go of the girl and she rubbed face.
"You see besides their knife ears elfs also have another distinctive feature, can you guess what it is?"
"Why is she naked?" Charlie asked. "Are you okay?" Charlie asked the girl.
"Step away from her kid." Dan said with a cold voice that made everyone's heart skip a beat.
"Stop showing concern to the dead!"
After managing to get hold of himself Charlie stuttered. "What... What... What do you... mean by the dead? She isn't dead."
"Yet! She isn't dead yet!"
Dan stood up and the aura exuding from him was the most malevolent and sinister that Crion, Charlie or the elf had ever seen. It was thick and heavy and made everyone's adrenaline reach their max.
"Time to kill, I guess." Dan said with a twisted smile as he looked at the elf.
"Kid make sure you watch probably, do not turn or close your eyes, this is really important and part of your training."
"Wait... stop...Please don't do this..." The elf stumbled on her words as she walked backwards. "I did not do anything to you... please don't harm me... I'll give you anything... that you want! Money! Gold! Elven beauties! Land! Please I'll give you anything."
Dan stopped walking and frowned. "The way you speak, you speak like you have done this before like this has happened before and the promises you make are quite big! Are you perhaps an important figure wherever it is you come from?"
"Yes! Yes! I am the kings illegitimate child Please I beg you... I will give you anything within my power! Whatever it is."
Dan's frown deepened until it stopped. His frown turned upside down and the corners of his mouth expanded further and further until finally a maniacal smile that exposed his teeth was resting on his face.
"Watch!" Dan said to Charlie who was not able to move from the fear he felt. As Dan took one step forward the elf turned around and ran as fast as her feet could carry her. It was pretty fast when compared to Dan's little sibling but that was it.
Dan propelled himself of where he was standing leaving a crater in his wake and within a millisecond he caught up to the elf who thought she had a chance to escape. He grabbed her by the face and returned back to where he was a few seconds ago.
Charloe watched as Dan squeezed on the girls head with both hands. He watched as her face turned blue and her veins started to pop out. Her small legs kicked in the air and not even a single sound came from her throat no matter how much she shouted.
SPAAAASHHH!
The sound of her head crushing like a watermelon resounded through the air as blood covered Charlie's fear stricken face.
