"So...Something's obviously up 'cause-"
"No. Sto-Shut up." I could feel my cheeks getting red as Lana continued laughing at my embarrassment.
"Anyway, what did you need me over here for?" Her laughing ceased, and she sat on one of the several chase lounges that lined the library walls. I followed her in doing so.
"Right, Um...So...Tell me about you and Chris." We both knew that's not what I really wanted to ask.
"We're doing pretty good, actually. He's taken me out a few times this week alone." She sighed deeply. "I think he's trying this time."
"He tries every time." I automatically responded and rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, but...It's different. He's a lot more caring and gentle than he usually is. He's been acting more like himself and not just some, sarcastic lacrosse player like he pretends to be. He doesn't want other people to see that he cares." She paused then glanced over at me.
"Reminds me of you actually." I chuckled at her words and thought how true they actually were.
"What do you feel? When you're with him I mean?"
"What do I feel, shit." She repeated lightly.
"I-I want nothing more than to spend all day with him. I want to throw away my plans and go cuddle on his chest while we lay in bed together. I want to go on a date with him and never leave. I jus-I wanna-" Her voice broke as her eyes teared up. "Ya know?"
"Yeah...I think I do."
"Fuck. Look at me." She laughed somewhat painfully as she fanned her glossy eyes. "You needed to talk to me, and now look at this shit." She smiled at me and took a deep breath.
"Whadda need, baby."
"That. What you just said."
She looked at me quizzically, so I continued.
"I think...I might, you know, like someone."
"No shit."
"Yeah. Three guesses at who, first two don't count."
"Right, Hannah." She slowly nodded her head at me.
"Yeah...But, What you said about Chris, I feel that way about her and more. And the thing that scares me is that I barely know her."
"Damn. Well, do you know what you're going to do?"
"Ah, that's what you're here for. I need a new plan. I want her to stay, but at the same time, I need her to stop being my sitter."
"Why?"
"What?"
"That's...well, it's fucking dumb." She giggled as she pinched the bridge of her nose.
"You like her, you want to be around her, she is your sitter. If you don't try to get rid of her, then that means more sexy-sexy time for the two of you at everyone's convenience."
"Huh. That...makes a lot of sense. But, what about when she leaves? Just get her number?"
"Pffft! No. Why is she here?"
"To keep me from being reckless."
"So what's gonna get your parents to hire her again...?" She grinned at me as I was finally seeing this plan come together.
"And this, Lana, is why I love you." I pulled her into a hug and sprinted out of the room, through the hallway, and into Hannah's bedroom.
