Me and Morven just made a suspect list for what happened at prep class.
"Prissy is definitely staying on the list," Morven said writing her name down on paper we had taken from Lilah. She was just there drawing and not paying attention. It was perfect for us, we could discuss anything that includes being a detective. Not that we didn't want her to join us, but it was just us being embarrassing.
"Mhm," agreeing, I said thinking by myself in suspicion.
"Are you okay? Something seems to be bothering you…"
"Well," I confessed. "It's just Darcy not being present at prep class because she was "ill" doesn't make sense! She looked just fine at Dinner…"
"True, we did think it was suspicious," she said but I looked at her making a face. "Well, you but I mean, here we have it, another suspect added to our list," she stood clapping weirdly.
"Morven!"
"Uh, yes?"
"Stop being weird! Lilah is here dumbo!" I said back and she sat back down.
"Oh," she mouthed in the air putting her hand on her mouth in embarrassment and I had no choice but to bring my palm to my face.
"Lian!" Morven shouted again making Lilah jump, like I didn't just say 'stop acting weird'. As soon as she realised she bowed as a sorry to Lilah and sat back down. "Sorry, but I just realised…do you know what all this means?!" She asked.
"No, but I'll just pretend I do, how does that sound?" I joked back.
"We are going undercover silly! We finally have a chance! We can explore, spy, dress up, get glasses and and and-"
"Ok ok. I get it. We already have glasses…I am also excited! But shhhhh detectives have to be careful of what they are saying out loud too!"
I'm sure by now Lilah must think we are the weirdest people ever.
"It's amazing," She whispered.
"I know."
"So now what?"
"Umm.." I said.
"Yeah?"
"You do realise we can speak properly just not too loud," I smiled innocently at her probably even ruining her day.
"Oh uh, okay," she said not too loud.
"Yes…peace and serenity. ommmm," I said making her laugh and I giggled along with that too, Lilah laughed because I was doing silly actions.
"Who is the weird one now huh?" She asked.
Just then a police officer came in, followed by still shocked Mrs Honeywebb. "You alright kids?" The big police officer said. We nodded our heads but all I could think of was…who is he calling kids? We are nearly 13. Teen in the word thirteen. But I guess we are still 12. Still, we're grown ladies. My birthday is on the 13th of October and Morven's is the 10th of November, but that doesn't matter.
"Don't worry it was just an accident," he continued.
"Oh yes girls…don't worry about it…I-its nothing! Your new English room will be room thirty B. Now get dressed and get ready for bed oh an-" Trembling, Mrs Honeywebb was saying until the officer interrupted.
"Oh and umm…don't forget to make sure your door is locked," a rather fat man holding a donut said again.
Making no comment, Morven and I nodded our heads very quickly and then our teacher translated everything in Korean for Lilah who nodded her head after the explaining.
After they were out I rushed to Morven straight away. "An accident? How can you kill someone by accident? It's not like he killed himself…well possibly, but highly unlikely because he didn't shut the lights!" I complained.
"It could have been a power cut," she reasoned.
"Morven! It can't have been a power cut, it was clearly planned!"
"Maybe someone was so scared that they threw a pen?" She said making me want to disappear now.
"Who can throw that hard? None of them are Miss Trunchbull from Matilda are they?! It's not a mistake, someone clearly didn't want Billy to be here…"
"Someone like…Prissy," She gulped.
"Well. We don't know that for sure, he bullies everyone, we can't frame her yet, she is a suspect ONLY…everyone doesn't want Billy here," I rushed rescuing our doubts because I do have a point, I mean the three girls back at dinner mentioned he was dangerous and really sounded like they hated him.
"So?! Even if someone hated him..they wouldn't kill him!" She screeched.
"Morven! That IS the case. Someone DID kill him, someone who hated him…could've been anyone!" I repeated myself since it didn't look like I was being clear enough the last time I did which was 10 seconds ago.
"You are right, by the way…he said to make sure we've 'LOCKED our doors' so that sums it up…it was no accident," she finally pointed out.
"Obviously, plus didn't you see the look on Mrs Honeywebb's face? Hey, looks like we're already detectives!"
"Oh yeah she was hilarious! I totally zoned out of the idea of detectives since there was so much going on in my head," she continued.
Lilah was just drawing as usual, and then we all got up to change. Our non-uniform clothes were dirty and me and Morven decided to take them to the laundry room later, that's if we ever find out where it is. In the meantime, we want to get to know Lilah more.
We all sat down because we made Lilah do so, we brought our phones out, no teachers were going to interrupt. We locked the doors, plus it was their order. There weren't any cameras in the rooms because people need to change of course, and this is considered privacy.
I started typing on the translator. Morven knows she is the only one who's aware I can speak Korean, along with her family of course. I didn't want people to know because I don't like getting reminded of my mum. Morven started typing too. We wanted to get to know her by translating into Korean.
"My name is Lian, nice to meet you," my translator said in Korean. Lilah nodded and took her phone out and she started typing too.
"My name is Lilah, nice to meet you too."
"I am Morven!" Morven's translator said in a very funny way so we all laughed.
"You are very nice, and funny," Lilah translated so we can understand her, that was the whole point!
"Thank you! Let's be good friends!" Morven translated, and Lilah nodded. I think Morven's translator is having a little glitch since it sounds like a dying robot you'd find in a toilet. Except you don't find them there.
"We are weird sometimes," I wrote.
"I can see that," Lilah translated and we all laughed.
"You are very beautiful," Morven wrote for her and she laughed shaking her head.
We spent a couple of hours getting to know her, she seemed to like us and we were very glad of that.
I did realise she had a bruise on her arm and I asked her what happened, but the way she answered saying it was an accident didn't make me believe her. I didn't say that though, I just nodded…I hoped it wasn't serious.
As we talked, I found out she had the same music taste as me! K-pop. I wasn't surprised, that's the main taste of Korean culture. We also found out that we were all fans of Benedict Cumberbatch! He acted Sherlock our favourite TV programme.
It was very awesome to get to know her and share the same likes as her, seriously, I thought Morven was the only one who didn't shame my taste in music, now it's Lilah too! But, like I said, I wasn't that surprised. I was more surprised she wanted to be a detective like us!
I wanted Lilah to be a member of our detecting club but she doesn't understand us so it would be difficult, that's why I didn't ask. She said she liked to draw a lot and always has her sketchbook and pencil in her hand. She showed us some awesome drawings! I guess that's how you would express your feelings when you don't know any English.
In my opinion, she was a very nice person, probably the nicest we've met so far, maybe even in the whole school. To me, she seemed a bit dull, someone who hasn't talked much to people before…I felt dark energy from her, like she was stuck in the depths of despair yearning to get out. You have to meet someone in order to know them and for me, her face told me all of this.
After one more hour of nonsense, laughing and gossip, it was time for me and Morven to take our things to the laundry room. I wasn't sure if we were allowed to go, so we opened our door and went to our teachers room which was at the edge of our corridor. Arriving, we knocked slightly.
"Who is it?" Said Mrs Honeywebb in a scared tone.
"It's only us miss, we want to put our clothes in the laundry room," I said.
"Girls, can't you do that tomorrow?" She asked.
"No miss, I heard the headmistress say that the people who are in charge of the laundry are only washing non-uniform if we bring our clothes in today," Morven replied to her.
"Oh right. A girl came to me earlier so she can go, that's fine girls, now off you go," she coughed answering.
"But where is it miss?" I asked. How on earth were we supposed to go if we didn't know where.
Mrs Honeywebb opened her door slightly and talked to us from there, "ok, so, keep walking straight and go to your second left, then go right, then left and then walk a little more and you will hear the sound of the washing machines, the room has an open light so you can shut your torches inside," she said in one go confusing us.
"O-oh uh, thank's miss?" Morven said as I clutched on her arm. I hated the dark, ever since I was little.
A flash back suddenly came to me. My mum. She was singing to me a lullaby in the dark telling me a funny story too, my dad was also playing the guitar as she did so. I felt my eyes tearing up. He hasn't played the guitar ever since mum…never mind.
"Lian! Earth to Lian? LIAN!" Shouted Morven as I came to my senses and put my hand on her mouth.
"Shh, they're sleeping!" I told her and she took my hand off her mouth nicely. I wiped my eyes.
"Why weren't you answering me?" Morven whispered.
"Oh I-I uh," I tried thinking of something to say. "I dropped my hair pin on the floor and I tried to find it"
"Oh, well…let's hurry now okay?" She said and I clutched on her arm again. We only had one torch and especially after someone's death, there was something to be scared of, to make matters worse, a teacher stopped us. We couldn't see that well in the dark even though we had a torch, so we were shocked.
"What are you two doing out of your dorm? Shouldn't you be sleeping at this hour?" He asked. It was an adult man. Not surprising, he was tall from the shadow we can see. His voice was low too.
"Y-yes but we need to put our things in the laundry room. Do you mind telling us where that is?" Morven gulped. We didn't know where we were or how we were going to get to the laundry room, Mrs Honeywebb didn't give us useful information..
"I'll let you two off this time since it's your prep day," he said making us slightly at ease, "turn right, then left, walk a little more and you will hear the sound of the washing machines, follow that. But hurry, I want to see locked doors tonight!" He declared seriously and we nodded heading on our way. This time, we understood.
When we got there, we placed our things in our dorm 8 laundry basket, everyone had their dorm basket so no one gets their clothes mixed up.
When we were about to head out, Morven saw something. "What's that in the corner?"
I shrugged, "I don't know...have a look," I walked back to her curiously.
"What in the world is that..?" She asked as we stayed one meter away from that piece of clothing being very careful as we approached it.
"It looks like there is black on the stuff," I said releasing. "Meh…it's probably someone's really dirty rubbish," I continued.
