Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: Changes

The following day at school there was quite a stir at school. The hallways were filled with excited pupils seemingly talking about the newest craze. Jason groaned. He was getting grumpy since he hadn't been getting much sleep ever since he had started his vigilante activities. The dark circles under his eyes signified that was a long period of activities. Investigating, Jason asked his best friend Mark what was going on. Mark answered excitedly that there was a new video making rounds online. He continued to take out his phone and show him the video in question. As soon as Jason saw the first scene of the video, he was shocked to his roots with his mouth aghast. The video was actually him saving the lady from last night. However, what made him dumbfounded were the comments under the video. Very many internet users had taken it upon themselves to criticize his costume. Jason couldn't believe it. He swore that that would be the first thing he would change once he got home. Now fully awake, Jason turned away from Mark, with the excuse of being late for class. Mark unreluctantly bid him goodbye. Jason was very sure that if he had said anything more, it would have given him away as the vigilante as dubbed from the comments. Basically, the day went on like any other with Mark being sloppy and very tired. He had tried his best to make sure his vigilante activities would not affect his schoolwork but he couldn't help it. As soon as the bell to end school for that day rang, Jason leisurely walked out of school whilst looking for Mark to apologize. Seeing that Mark was nowhere to be found, Jason released a sigh of relief. He was neither ready to start a conversation nor continue the one from their previous encounter. A few minutes later, Jason arrived home only to be welcomed by his aunt, Jennifer. That situation hurt him deeply because it reminded him of the accident that was still fresh in his mind. Feigning exhaustion, Jason excused himself and went to his room. In a record time of thirty minutes, he finished his homework and now the real work started. He moved to his closet at parted his clothes to reveal a bright, red, shiny button at the center. He smiled knowing that if his aunt would have been doing his laundry, she would have found out a long time ago. Even so he didn't want to risk anything so he made a mental note to camouflage the button better since it was an eyesore. Now the best part had come, he pressed the button and as the mechanisms in the closet clinked and clanked, Jason felt excitement build up in him. After a few seconds, the process was complete which led the closet to open a panel containing his neatly folded costume and other gear. He took it out and pressed another button to close the panel. The changes he would make to the costume would be simple but still make an impact. Rather than a blue cape, he replaced it with a black one. For the most integral part which was the torso, which was riddled with such bright colors that made Jason's eyes ache, he made it grey with a twist. He took the blue from the cape and stitched a large H on the chest which would serve as a symbol. For the legs, he also did grey and that was it for that day. Due to the fact that he had to to all that work manually, he was dog-tired. He could not muster the strength to go crime fighting that night. Luckily, that was a good thing because other forces were at play that night which would have ended his vigilante days if he had made an appearance. He returned his costume and fell on the bed like a sack of potatoes. Almost instantly, he was in a deep slumber but unfortunately that was not the end of his night.
