Chapter 16 - Vermin

Jin and Takeo watched the live feed in Tokyo from inside an office room of Norio's building in Kasane, the swarm of people protesting and rioting in the streets ahead of him, each of them carrying flags bearing symbols for revolution and anti-UN messages. At the forefront of the group the people held a banner, written in Japanese was the phrase "Down With Norio, Stop the United Nations". Jin shook his head in disgust.

They weren't insurgents or terrorist that Norio often put down, but rather rioters that didn't see eye to eye with the UN or Norio. Whistleblowers who, unless eliminated, would expose the organizations controversies and secrets aside from defending the Earth.

Sitting at a long table desk talking on the phone and dressed in a suit was Kazumasa Sanada, a member of Norio's board of directors and head of the Norio Security Forces. Sitting at the table as well were other Norio officials responsible for directing the organizations actions in Kasane City.

"." he said.

Jin could see in the video Norio security forces emerging from cars and armored trucks, dressed in back and red uniforms and armed to the teeth with assault weapons. The soldiers at first tried to dismantle the crowd by intimidation and firing into the air. Jin could see how ineffective it was as one rioter threw what appeared to be a bottle filled with Moltov at a soldier.

"."

The security forces aimed their weapons and opened fire on the group. Bullets flying from one side to the other as the anti-UN group tried to run and leave. Their efforts were in vain as they were either killed or captured by security.

Jin simply shrugged his shoulders at the sight being shown on the screen, he wasn't all too appalled at what was being shown. It was another common aspect of Norio that many turned a blind eye to. Something that has been occurring since the organizations founding.

It was often common knowledge that Norio was an organization entrusted by the UN to enforce its control on member states, to this extent Norio practically ran everything from propaganda, to the media, to the elimination of whistleblowers and anti-UN rioters. While Norio had its vast amount of supporters and fans, it was not without its critics and enemies within its boundaries.

"."

"?" Jin said as Kazuto hung up the phone.

"?"

Kazuto had been referring to the Kuril Islands Jin and the rest of Demon Squadron had conducted an operation over a few days prior.

"?"

"." Takeo added.

Jin glanced back up at the video feed that had soon ended, going back to Norio's symbol.

Kazuto sighed as he stood up. "."

Jin accepted a metal folder with Norio's symbol on the top left, it contained classified information that he would give to the commander of the joint strike force regarding an upcoming operation.

"."

Jin nodded as Kazuto patted his shoulder. "."

"."

Jin and Takeo bowed before the council who bowed in return before leaving the building.

Jumping from the canopy of his aircraft Jin landed in front of an insurgent and used his gun to knock him to the ground, the rest of Demon Squadron and contingent of Japanese army soldiers doing the same to several others. The squadrons jets hovered in the air on auto pilot and the lights illuminating the dark area around them.

They were currently in the midst of Operation Sunset which involved an assault on an uninhabited Indonesian island to secure a base from insurgents wishing to claim its secrets. The operation had been in conjunction with the Japanese Army's special ops unit and also involved the elimination of another Xeno in the islands airspace. While Jin had long killed the Xeno it was now time for the group to get answers.

Once the insurgents were all tied and rounded up the Japanese soldiers guarded the perimeter and stood over them, as Jin and the others removed their helmets and took charge of the situation. Jin could fell the magma welling up inside of him. The 12 rebels before them weren't just ordinary ones, but also responsible for an attack on Okinawa weeks prior.

"?" Takeo asked. No response came from the captive. Takeo drew his pistol and aimed it at the mans head. "?!"

The insurgent shouted an insult towards him. Signaling Jin who stood behind the rebel, he drew his pistol and fired a shot into the back of the mans head in execution style. The other insurgents were shocked at the style of attack.

"?" Takeo asked once again. No response. "."

Nio nodded and fired his weapon into another one.

"!" one insurgent shouted.

"."

Jin sighed. "." He pointed at one as if he'd suddenly recognized him. Jin's eyes widened as he slowly walked up to him and looked down at the insurgent. "..."

The insurgent simply scoffed. "Yeah, so?"

Jin's face twisted into that of an angry God as he simply dropped his rifle and cracked his knuckles. Kicking the man in the face he proceeded to rapidly punch the insurgent in the head and face over and over. Blood covering his knuckle and the sand beneath his feet. Takeo and the others simply watched as if nothing was happening, letting Jin take his fill.

Sure, Jin was sweet, caring, and kind when it came to his family and Emma. But when it came to those who targeted the innocent and undeserving he was cold, brutal, and ruthless. It was a side he would never let Emma see.

Once he'd finished Jin kicked the now bloodied insurgent into the sand a final time. Takeo, realizing that the rebels before them weren't going to talk, made a decision. He ordered the Japanese soldiers to stand them each up as he and the others loaded their weapons. Once the insurgents were in line, Demon Squadron opened fire on the remaining 10.

"." Jin said. "?"

"." Nio said. "."

One army soldier nodded and the contingent of Japanese troops got to work in disposing of the corpses in a nearby ditch where they would later be burned, getting rid of any evidence. Jin and the others hopped back into their jets and, after leaving a marker for the army to secure the weapon, flew back towards command for the night.
