Chapter 4 - Do you still like me?

A day can't be any worse than this. What the fuck is wrong with her behavior?. I sighed shaking my head. Martin seemed to show interest in her.

"I thought you would say 'no'," Martin said seeing me from the front mirror.

"George would get doubt if she goes home in a cab," I replied not lifting my head from the phone screen.

"Smart," Martin smirked.

"But still you got jealous." He said after a second.

"Stop talking nonsense like her. You were showing interest in her in the first place." I asked.

"Isn't that what jealousy?" Martin teased.

"Stop it, buddy. Go home, I have work to do." I replied.

Martin smiled in reply and drove the car to the mansion. I went inside and found dad, waiting for me in the living room. As soon as he saw me, he stood up and came towards me.

"How did the lunch go?" He asked.

"Good." I was about to pass by but he stopped me.

"What about Evelyn? Do you like her?" Dad asked. Why is he trying to act like mum?.

"Yes," I replied in a cold tone and went upstairs.

"Martin, how did it go?" Dad asked. I know he will ask Martin.

"Smooth. They really like each other." Martin replied with a smile. I wonder how he manages to smile every time.

Dad was interrogating Martin about lunch and he stood there answering. How long this old man take?

"Martin, come upstairs," I shouted standing at the stairs.

Martin smiled at dad and came upstairs. I went into my room and he followed me. I sat on the couch and was looking at the financial information I left behind before going for lunch and Martin stood beside the couch. He's acting like Master-servant again.

"Buddy, sit. Don't act strange." I said.

Martin sat beside me and was looking at me with a smile.

"Instead of staring like that, you can help with this work."

"Fine. What should I do?" He asked.

"Bring me the company's auditor report," I ordered.

"10 minutes." He said and left the room.

After some time he came into the room with a file. He gave me the file and we both started working. I didn't know how long it took. We finally stopped the work and when I checked the time it was around 7:30 in the evening.

After some time, Martin and I went to the boxing area. We started practicing but Martin was still staring at me. He's been doing that since we got home.

"Stop staring will ya?" I asked looking at him and continued punching the boxing ring.

"It's just........ it's been years since I saw you smiling."

"I wasn't." I denied.

"Yes, you are." He smiled.

I was about to open my mouth to deny it again but he stopped me.

"Don't even try to deny. I saw you."

"How else should I react? She was being so full of herself. Arrogant bitch." I replied.

"Show some respect, buddy. She's your wife."

"Not yet and she's the one who called me names first." I reminded.

"Okkay. But why did you propose for contract marriage?. You haven't told me anything about it." He asked.

"I haven't thought about it until I saw her. If she was someone else I wouldn't have done any proposal, but she that arrogant one hates me as much as I hate her. So, I thought it's best to part ways after a year." I replied.

"What really happened between you two? You seem to hate each other so much?" He asked again.

I sighed and explained everything. It took me quite some time. My boxing practice got completed till then.

"So, you kissed her?" He asked with a surprised tone and with the slightest smile.

"What else was I supposed to do? She was shouting at yelling at me without a break. I thought it was the best thing to shut her up. How am I supposed to know that it's her first kiss?" I said while removing my boxing gloves.

"You are her first kiss, will be her first time and her husband. You're a lucky dude. No guy will get all the three as a package."

"Stop that fucking nonsense. I don't wanna sleep with her." I specified with a big angry tone.

"But it's been 3 years since I saw you being angry," Martin said looking at my face.

I looked away and it made me recall the incident I buried long ago. Martin came towards me and kept his hand on my shoulder.

"Adam." He said in a soft tone.

I didn't let the tears roll down. I sniffed and turned towards him.

"Did you reca-" Martin was about to complete his sentence but I stopped him and spoke first.

"Don't. I don't wanna recall it." I said in a low tone and took the water bottle.

"I'm sorry. My bad. So, you sure you're good with this marriage thing?" He asked, trying his best to change the topic.

"Nothing matters more than the company," I said in a cold tone.

"What about the rules you guys made?" He asked.

"What's wrong with them?" I asked back.

"I don't know, you tell me."

"Nothing, just leave the topic. I'm not in the mood." I said and drank the water.

"Whatever might your conflict be. You seem to like her. I mean you remember her name and how she looks after all these years, there must be a reason for it." He said looking at me.

The more he's talking about her the more it's pissing me off. It's reminding me of the past I tried to bury in my memories. My anger crossed its limit.

I turned towards him, kept my hands on his shoulders, and pinned him to the wall behind him with a sudden force. Everything happened so suddenly that Martin couldn't react. At present, my face is few inches away from Martin's.

"A-Adam." He managed to say in between his heavy breathing.

"I....don't....like her," I said making my face closer to his face.

The moment I got closer his breath became heavier and his heart started beating fast.

"Then...whom do you like?" He asked, bringing his face much closer, that his breath is touching my skin and so was mine. Our lips were just a bit apart.

"None. Don't try to bring the memory I've buried deep inside." I said and let him go. I took my bag and was about to leave when he caught my wrist and stopped him.

"I'm sorry. I just tried to deviate from you. I didn't know I was reminding you of that. I'm sorry, Adam." He apologized in a low tone. I can see him feeling sad.

"It's okkay. Let's go home." I said and freed my hand from his grip.

But Martin, he was still the same. I can see him feeling guilty. He's blaming himself. I sighed and kept one of my hands around his shoulder and pulled him closer to a hug.

"She reminded me of that memory, not you. Don't blame yourself." I said beside his ear in a small tone.

"I'm sorry." He said wrapping his hands around my back.

"It's okkay," I said caressing his hair on his back.

He tightened the hug and buried his face in my shoulder. I can hear his sniffing. He stayed the same for quite some time, while I was caressing his hair.

"Martin, let me go. People might see us." I sounded a bit warm this time.

"Answer me this and I will let you go." He said placing his chin on my shoulder.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Do you like me now, like you used to before?" He asked in a quiet tone.

I sighed before answering.

"No matter what. I always like you. No one can change that feeling of mine." I said with a small smile.

He broke the hug and saw my face, still his hands around my waist.

"You are smiling like before." He said looking at my smile.

I let go of him immediately and turned around.

"Let's go home," I said and walked outside.

I came home, took shower, and had dinner. I did some work and went to bed. I closed my eyes to sleep and suddenly my mind showed a scene of Evelyn smiling. Why the hell am I thinking of that Evelyn girl? I got pissed and after some time sleep came over.
