The next day I woke up, still with that girl in my head. Why the hell am I thinking of her? Ugh, I shook my head and went for a run. I came back home and did my workout, got freshen up, had breakfast, and went back to my room to check on the financial data.
I was going through the transactions and other information when I found something unusual. I was searching for it when I heard the door knock.
"Come in," I shouted not lifting my gaze from the laptop screen.
I heard the footsteps approaching, the sound of the footsteps was enough for me to recognize the person.
"You know you can come in without doing all that drama right."
"How do you know it was me?" The person sitting on the couch next to me asked.
"Because you still wear the bracelet I made when we were kids. The tinkling bell in it, makes a sound, Martin. Why do you wear it even after all these years." I said with a smile.
"It's the first gift you gave me. I'm attached to it." Martin said looking at the bracelet.
"Never get attached to anything or anyone. It breaks you in the end." I said with a light head tilt.
"Forget it. What are you looking at?" Martin asked sitting next to me.
"Our financial information feels unusual. It is shown that we have been receiving an amount from our clients, but the exact same amount is withdrawn to purchase the assets. I found the receipts of the assets but I still can't find out why we bought them. But what made me doubt is, the previous assets are still getting depreciated. Why did we bought new assets when old ones are still in use." I explained showing the transactions and receipts.
"But I haven't seen any new assets being brought into the company. Let me get a confirmation from the accountant and staff member." Martin said while taking out his phone from his pocket.
"No. Don't let it reach other persons. It looks like cash embezzlement." I replied.
"Cash embezzlement?" Martin asked in surprise.
"Yes, if I'm not wrong....... Do a fully transparent checkup by yourself. Don't trust anyone." I ordered.
"Okkay," Martin replied.
"Good, I need the financial information of Lawrenson's too. I want to go through it too."
"They will be on your desk in an hour," Martin said while calling someone.
He ended the call and came towards me.
"They are on their way. Now, that you're free, why don't we do other things." Martin said keeping his hand on my shoulder.
"What things?" I asked looking at his face.
"Lunch. I'm starving, buddy." Martin whined in a dull tone.
"Okkay," I said while closing the files.
We both went downstairs to the dining table and started having lunch.
"Yeah, I forgot to ask you. Master wants to know when you're free." Martin said after remembering.
"For?" I asked. Dad usually asks me this question to take me to boring parties or to have so-called family dinners with a bunch of fools.
"For your wedding. He wants you to completely focus on the wedding." Martin said while sipping a glass of water.
"I'll be ready. Just ask him to fix a date. He can at least do this right." I said in a cold tone.
"Buddy, if you're gonna get married. You shouldn't focus on anything except for the wedding, at least on the wedding day." Martin specified.
"I will. Just tell him to chose a day of his choice." I replied.
"Everyone knows, you're a kind of guy who leaves his own wedding for a business meeting. Just give me a goddamn date, buddy. I don't wanna be the messenger of 'son and father conflict'." Martin said in a bit of an angry tone.
"Fine. Maybe after a week, I can pull off some things by then." I said while thinking.
"So eager to get married." Martin teased.
"So eager to end that stupid thing, so I can fully focus on business." I corrected.
"I'll inform, Master then," Martin said with a smile.
I nodded my head in agreement. We had lunch and I got back to work. Martin brought the financial data of Lawrenson Pvt Ltd. and I started going through the file, while Martin went to check on the assets that are newly bought.
I didn't notice that the blue sky darkened, day passes easily like a blink of an eye if you do some serious shit. I came finally wrapped up the work for the day when Martin asked about the boxing practice. We practiced for some time and came back. I took a shower and came downstairs for dinner. I found dad and the dining table and I started having dinner when dad called.
"Adam."
I didn't reply instead I looked at him.
"Martin told me that you'll be free after a week. But there will be a lot of arrangements to do for the marriage, will they be completed in a week?" Dad asked.
"There are wedding planners to take care of it. Don't worry." I said while eating the food.
I completed eating the food and went upstairs. I didn't find Martin at dinner. So I called him.
"Hello, Adam," Martin answered.
"Where are you? I thought you would be home for dinner, buddy." I asked.
"I thought the same. But again I thought it's best to check out those so-called new assets after working hours." He replied.
"Where are you now?" I asked after a sigh.
"In the office. I got spare keys." Martin said and the sound of spare keys juggling can be heard from the side.
"Okkay, just don't take long," I ordered.
"Okkay, boss." He said in a teasing tone.
"Have you had dinner?" I asked ignoring his tease.
"I ate at a fast-food nearby." He answered.
"Good, text me after coming home."
"Yes, boss." He replied.
I ended the call. I sat on the bed, thinking about the business when my mind recalled the memory of the fight I had with that arrogant Evelyn, years ago.
"Why the fuck am I thinking of her?" I said shaking my head to get out of those thoughts.
I sighed and laid myself on the bed. I was about to sleep when I heard my phone beep. I took it and it was Martin, she sent me a pic of himself in the living room with the caption 'I'm home buddy'. I smiled and kept it aside and slept.
