Her words struck KL like a lightning bolt. With his eyes wide open and his mouth gaping, KL stared at 'Luna' as if he had seen a ghost. His mouth kept opening and closing like a fish out of water for a long while before he finally managed to cool down his thoughts.
With the coldest gaze he could muster within the moment, KL started to speak out his thoughts of disbelief. "You're lying. Sugar Mommy doesn't have an assistant!"
Sophia only smiled more brightly when she heard his words. "Of course, dear. Why would Sugar Mommy need an assistant when she has you?"
Not daring to believe what he just heard, KL just stood frozen in his spot. However, the bright glint in his eyes that seemed to be glowing brighter by the second couldn't conceal his excitement.
Everyone thought that Sophia Harper was the personnel assistant of Sugar Mommy, the actual boss of Sugar Honies, but that was just a facade. Sophia was the real boss however, she was hell-bent on taking care of her family hence assuming the identity of an assistant to not bring about any harm to her family.
Besides a lucky few people including KL, no one else knew about this! No matter how hard one searched or tried to threaten and bribe those people into giving out the identity of the real boss, Sophia and the others would never do it even at the cost of their life hence, he immediately believed Luna's words. HE was the actual assistant of Sugar Mommy, not Sophia Harper and besides a lucky few no one else knew of this!
His heart started beating fast and his blood started boiling as he tried hard to not jump to her. 'She was back! Sugar Mommy wasn't dead!'
Finally, he wasn't able to control his actions any longer and rushed up to give Sophia a big hug. When she was finally in his arms, he couldn't help but tear up. When he attempted to speak, his words came out choked. "Die… you didn't die."
His voice was shaking and so was his entire body but the hug on Sophia was starting to leave her breathless so she picked up her leg and gave him a kick to his shin.
The pain brought him back from his reverie and he backed away with his hands still on her shoulder. Seemingly still not believing that his boss was still alive, KL kept his eyes focused on Sophia's face. Sophia shook off his hands from her shoulders and made her way towards the CEO's seat behind the desk.
KL didn't stop her. He patiently waited for her to explain why she was still f*cking alive in the world. It was a good thing that she was alive but how? Didn't she die in the fire from the abandoned house? He even personally went to identify her bones after the fire! How was she still here? Or rather why was she in the body of Luna Grey?
Sophia slowly sat down on the wheelchair and leaned back lazily before finally deciding to answer his unasked questions. "I woke up in this body two months after my death. Precisely on the evening of July 11th. As for how this happened, I don't know either. Whatever the case, don't go around exposing my presence. I'm Sugar Mommy's new assistant and that is all I shall be."
KL nodded his head. After a few moments of digesting all the information, he attempted to open his mouth. "Ahem. Boss…"
"Speak."
"Are you going to reveal yourself this time?" He had already accepted that Sophia was no longer Sophia but a young girl named Luna hence he had high hopes for her future and dared to ask this question.
Over the past few years, many people have been trying to break down Sugar Honies and although everyone had managed to still keep it together, many were doubting themselves.
They still loved Sugar Honies and were willing to give their lives to keep this lighthouse going, however a part of their hearts were going numb knowing that their boss and her assistant who was closer to them than a lover went missing. There was no news of either of them and with the words from the outsiders, they started doubting themselves. 'What if she was really dead? What if she didn't like them anymore and abandoned them like the others?'
Sophia obviously knew what KL was thinking at the moment.
He wanted her to come out as the real boss of Sugar Honies since 'Sophia Harper' was the 'assistant.' Right now, Sophia Harper is already dead and the people of Sugar Honies have lost all connections to the hidden boss, Luna coming out as the boss would be the best course of action. The people of Sugar Honies would have new hope while their enemies will have something to fear and not act as brazenly as they did the past four years.
Besides, as Sophia Harper, she hid to protect her family from any danger and cause less trouble but things were different now.
Now, she no longer had anyone to protect.
Besides Lillian and Rohan whom she might feel some attraction to protect it wouldn't be as strong as it was with Layla and her father.
Coming out as the boss would strengthen Sugar Honies even further. Sugar Honies was the best mercenary company you would find within the country, so she was strong even if there were enemies. Why would she need to fear them when she was the one whom they should be afraid of?
Sophia wasn't afraid of her enemies nor will she ever be. Back then, she hid to protect because coming out as the boss of Sugar Honies would mean that her sister Layla would land in a lot of trouble.
People would start criticizing her and talk bad behind her back. As the person who had doted on her all day long, how could she make her suffer any form of grievance? So, she hid. Just being the 'assistant' of the 'boss' she had enough power to take care of her sister and earn loads of money.
To the eyes of regular people, she was a hardworking lady who brought up her father's company to new heights and doted on her family the most. However, in the eyes of people who worked on both sides of the world, she was the assistant of the big hidden boss of Sugar Honies that was taking over many of their underworld businesses.
Even as an assistant, she hid pretty well and her family didn't know of her side job. That was until she got betrayed by one of her enemies that colluded with Layla and exposed her identity of being a bigshot assistant in the underworld.
Layla felt "betrayed" that Sophia hid her job from them so she took action and tore off her facade of an innocent sister. Having found some actual dirt on Sophia, Layla decided to tear off her mask. She was caught cheating with Sophia's fiance but it seemed as though Sophia had "betrayed" her family first. According to Layla, she was just giving back what she received.
Sophia, who had doted on her sister and risked her life many times just to earn enough money to last them a lifetime, was destroyed in the hands of her sister. However, she didn't regret it. No matter what had happened in her life, Sophia's only regret was not living up to her mother's last wish.
She had let her mother down.
She had promised her mother that she wouldn't resent anyone and be as kind as possible especially to those around her and yet she was resenting Layla and her ancestors every single day that she was stuck in that room. Even for a long while when she was inside that white void, her heart never softened.
Perhaps because of the long while that has passed by, Sophia didn't feel much about her death and her life. She had already cursed and 'killed' Layla so many times inside the void. There was no need to dirty her hands in real life.
Thinking of all the things she did, Sophia let out a soft sigh and looked up at KL meaningfully.
"I don't plan to. Sugar Honies will get stronger but unless it's absolutely necessary I won't reveal myself, so keep that in mind."
There was a hint of disappointment in KL's eyes, but he quickly nodded his head in understanding. "Yes, Boss!"
Pleased with his reaction, Sophia stood up from the seat. "Alright. Keep things under control here while I settle things on my side. I'm leaving."
With a wave of her hand, Sophia walked in a graceful manner towards the door while KL sent her off respectfully.
