With time he woke up, Deb standing away from us as the cops stood by him.
As he woke up the cop said,"Thanks brother! Thanks for saving our officers life!"
I was surprised and stared at both of them.
"Is the officer okay?", my hubs enquired.
"Yes! He is in the adjoining room recovering."
The cop then looked at me and said,"Your husband did the bravest thing by jumping out of the car and getting hold of the fugitive who was trying to shoot our officers on patrol. I'm sorry that he got injured. But he is a hero! "
There were tears running down my eyes,tear of joy! I was overjoyed to hear of my hubs' exploits to save somebodys life. I said," I am proud of him and please dont apologize. It was not your fault. He did what he had to do to save somebody's life. But for now he is vulnerable and in danger. What if somebody comes in to take revenge?" My overthinking ended with me panicking.
The officer said,"Dont worry mam. A guard will always stay with him and take care of his safety."
We both thanked the officer.
As the officer was walking away, he saw Deb , stopped and stared at him for over a minute. He walked upto us as the officer walked away.
It felt funny watching them, it was as if they knew each other.
But I knew Deb wasn't playing, it was the first time ever he showed me his maniacal side. But I was a bit relieved that with an officer by our side he would be at bay.
My hubs held my hand and looked into my eyes,"Do I look handsome to you now? With my broken nose , bruised face and swollen eyes?"
And I said,"You look even cuter!",kissed him on his forehead.
All the time while Deb stared at us in envy.
The nurse asked me to bring some medicines for him and I obliged. But the trouble was walking down would mean Deb could just be behind me and strike again.
I slithered through the passageway like a snake, hiding my face and looking around to see if Deb was around.
But there I met somebody, it was Bexy and how do I know her? She is Deb's first cousin. How I came to know about that in jail is a long story. I was happy to see her.
"Hi! Bexy! It's been decades that I haven't seen you! How are you?"
"Hey Rebecca! Its so nice to see you my love! Since the last time we met, life's been difficult,immensely!"
"Oh! Dear Lord! Why?" , I enquired.
"Over a year before Deb died in a gang shootout!", she answered wiping down her tears,"I recently had a divorce and moved back here! Moving back brought all those memories flooding in!"
"Whaaat? But who is him? What?"
As she handed me the medicine, my heart was thumping like an earthquake! If Deb has been dead for over a year now, then who is this?
