"Let's divorce," she mumbled and her nervous eyes wandered around aimlessly
Pin-drop silence entered the room before I replied to her comment, "I'm sorry. I didn't catch that."
No, I did hear it. But I think I misheard it. I want to believe I misheard it.
"I said, let's divorce." This time she enunciate it clearer.
My brain was searching for the right response. It was not a time to pretend I've got a hearing problem and I obviously would not want to provoke her.
"Why? Is it something I do? Or perhaps didn't do?"
"I just want to divorce. That's our plan anyway."
"I don't understand. That was BEFORE we get to know each other."
"It doesn't matter."
"You need to tell me at least the reason why. This is not something I would respond in a whim."
"How long do you plan to keep me when I want out?"
