Chapter 8 - A Crash Landing and a Wild Child

It's been a productive year. While teaching Mic about the modern world, my ki techniques, and training in aura, he devoted himself to whatever I showed him and picked it up really well. I even got a skill because of it.

~Teacher Class F lvl 7 Exp 12/320~

The User has spent extensive time teaching others. The rate at which others comprehend and understand how to utilize the knowledge you share will become greater the more these skill levels. Rate: 960%

The base is no longer a cave. After teaching Mic ki orb and ki blade, he practiced by carving bricks from the walls, and we stacked them just before the entrance to make this place a little more defendable. Then, with some help from me, we even put in a fireplace with some of the extra brick. We also carved some stairs into the mountain so we could use the grass rope for traps.

Then he surprised me and made his own technique, ki shield. When I told him it was brilliant, he cried, and when I asked him to show me how he did it, his follower rank shot up two levels, and he fainted. After that, we worked on ki techniques together and came up with some good ones, ki sense, ki beam, ki healing, and during a training accident, some… questionable ones, ki sync, and ki drain.

The base looks more like a huge room with a river going through it on one side and a fireplace on the other, and we even put in a little bridge to cross the river without needing to jump over it. As of now, we have a warm shelter and a continuous water supply, and we both traded in our clothing for furs and hides as winter had long since set in. Of course, food was a problem, but with our combined skills, we made due.

The level at which I grew was ridiculous; getting at minimum four stat points a day was great, and with the dungeons giving stat points as rewards, I didn't feel the need to level myself since I could use that exp for skills and abilities. However, once my stats hit a hundred, the system stopped giving me the workout quest. In the end, I leveled myself to put myself at an even hundred-twenty each.

Another thing, some of the stats affect more than I thought. For example, I expected intelligence to sharpen my memory and knowledge retention abilities. It does, but also, I estimate that I increase my base exp gain by one for every five points. Wisdom makes me more insightful and allows me to apply my knowledge in unconventional ways and make correct leaps in logic when figuring out problems. Charisma, as I guessed, doesn't just make me pretty but makes my ability to convey the meaning of what better, and it seems to boost my ability to get others to follow my lead. Also, for every two points in strength, I gain one HP. Constitution, dexterity, and luck, on the other hand, seem to function how one would think they would.

After a while, I decided to pour exp into my detection skill, and I used it on Mic to get an idea about the mortal average on Remnant.

He knew instantly that I did something to discern information about him and said it made him feel vulnerable. Interesting, is this because of our link through the system or because of the ability itself?

His physical stats didn't change after intensive training, so I have to assume that is the natural max. His mental stats being higher are probably due to his time under the curse. Suppose I guess that fifty to sixty is the top tier for humans in this world. In that case, I'm still two times stronger than the best in every regard but what interests me is that his aura gives about a hundred and fifty percent increase and a two hundred ten percent to his dexterity.

I guess the next evolution of aura has to do with semblances, which is another point of curiosity for me.

~Aura F lvl 9 Exp 2,280/2,280~

The User has unlocked the power of the soul. The User's soul has awakened, and it will protect the User. The User's stats will be increased by 100% when aura is active, but the User's aura pool will slowly drain over time. Drain: 1 per second [ERROR: Can not evolve through system]

I looked through the shop and didn't find anything about semblances, so there must be a condition I have to meet, or I have to manifest my semblance naturally. It's interesting that the system can't do certain things, but finding this limitation only brought new questions. For example, why can't the system unlock my semblance? Are there other limitations on the system, and why is the system limited in that way?

Another question I still haven't found the answer to is that I couldn't decide whether to get negative hunger or not, especially after emotion sense evolved into emotion control. Mic was no help, just saying, "I know you will make the right choice Divine One." Or something to that regard.

"Solomon sir, do you wish to join me in going hunting today?" Mic asks. Being pulled from my thoughts, I look over at Mic strapping on a hide backpack. He always knows I want to go, but whether it be about training, building, teaching, or hunting, he always puts his reminders into a form of asking permission or in as a question. It's kind of annoying.

"Sure, I'll join you," I said, knowing that asking him to stop would only cause posturing and pouting from him. So I step off the rock I was sitting on, grab my hide bag, and walk with him to the exit.

Stepping outside, I look over the frozen landscape. The scenery reminded me of a fantasy winter wonderland postcard, especially with the floating islands off in the distance. I activate my ki and emotion sense. Each on their own could only give approximate locations of things around me, but together it focuses both to an extreme degree.

Looking over the forest, I see the bright outline of a herd of deer. "They're a bit further than yesterday, about three miles in that direction," I say, pointing to the area the deer are. "Shall we race there, sir?" Mic asks me. I chuckle and say, "Sure," then bolt down the stairs leaping six to seven steps at a time and quickly rush for the forest the second I get to the bottom.

Running through the snow, I just as I get halfway to the treeline when a blur of light blue shoots past me. "Oh, so we're using semblances and aura, ok," I yell as a light envelops me, like the like standing in the reflection of a golden pool, my golden aura coats me as I launch forward. The world blurs around me as I shoot forward, kicking off trees to get more leverage. I quickly catch up with Mic, then slow down to be just in front of him. Only because I know he'll pout again if I hunt all the deer we need before he even gets there.

We arrive at the herd a minute or two after leaving the cave. Mic launches forward with a ki spear, stabbing a deer before any of them could react to our arrival. I stop at the edge and release my apex aura, and six deer die on the spot. "Why so many, sir?" Mic asks as we pick up our catch. "I'll have guests tomorrow," I say. He sighs nervously, "I understand that this is important to you, sir, but can we trust her to take you in?" I look at him, pleased I've got him to the point where he is comfortable voicing his concerns, "You'd understand if you ever met her."I say as I think, 'though neither have I.' We walk back so Mic can catch his breath and I can enjoy the scenery.

As we walk through the forest, hampered more by the snow than the weight of the deer, we both hear a roar behind us, turning around and see an Ursa tensing and ready to charge. "Shall I deal with it, Solomon, sir?" Mic says to which I respond, "No, there's no point in wasting time on this." So instead, I summon a ki orb and shoot it through the skull of the Ursa, causing its head to explode.

[Ursa Grimm defeated 44 Exp distributed to User and pertinent skills & abilities]

After we got back to the base, we butchered, smoked the venison, and tried to brush off the cold. The rest of the day was spent training. Not that it did anything for either of us to do in our spare time. While we trained, I could tell Mic was getting antsy about tomorrow because he kept sighing and looking at me worriedly. Despite everything, he still sees me as a child, but I guess it's hard not to since I'm literally in the body of a child. A child that's two times stronger, faster, and skillful than the best of the best of this world but a child nonetheless.

As the day ends, and after we eat, Mic lies down next to the fireplace to sleep. I sit on my rock and meditate. I don't need to rest as much, whether it's because of ki control, constitution, or my increase in divinity through the system, I don't know. Maybe once a week, I'll need to sleep, but that duration grows with my ever-increasing strength.

'Open mission tab,' I think as I channel ki through my body to train ki control.

[Mission/s]

{Save the Maiden}

Summer Rose is fated to die at the hands of Salem. Change this outcome to shift fate itself.

Rewards: A place amongst Summer's family, increased standing with Tia Xiao Long, the reverence of Yang Xiao Long and Ruby Rose. 3,000 Exp points.

Fail Conditions: The death of Summer Rose

Punishment: The loss of standing with Tia Xiao Long and vilification by Yang Xiao Long.

Mission start: 3 hours 57 minutes 32 seconds.

WARNING: The current area is the mission start area. If the User is not here at the mission start time, it will constitute an automatic fail.

Worry and anticipation bubble up inside me. I've spent the last year preparing for this day. We made makeshift bandages, crutches, even found herbs and bark that could be used as natural medical remedies—anything I can use to prevent death and lessen the impact of an injury. I even made extra blankets and pillows from hide and fur just in case we would be stuck here for a while, and she wasn't alone. But I'll be facing the mission alone tomorrow. If Mic were there, it would complicate things.

I could brush off any questions about my origins as something I'm too young to understand, but if there is an adult with the same powers, questions will be asked, and I don't know if she'll accept the answers. Then there's Ozpin, no doubt he'll learn of my powers, but for so long as he thinks he can manipulate me to be his pawn, he won't get in the way. If he thinks someone else has control over me or can't use me, he'll probably try and isolate me until he knows he has a way to control me or destroy me.

What probably will happen is Ozpin will have Ironwood take me after finding out about me and have him monitor me in an Atlas facility for a while to discern my intentions, capabilities, and above all else, if I can be controlled. Summer would probably object, saying a child needs a family not to be sent to a lab to be tested on, I could probably use that to limit what he can do to me, but he'll no doubt say the power could be killing me, and she'll fold.

Ozpin is one to take risks for so long as he believes he can benefit from it, so the first thing I should do is gain Ironwood's trust first. Having one of Ozpin's inner circle backing me will give me room to breathe and keep me out of a lab being experimented on or on the run for the rest of my life.

While I think of all the possibilities, time passes by, and the timer ticks down. Suddenly, I hear a loud explosion outside, activating my sensory abilities. I see humanoid life falling into the forest. "Mic, wake up!" I yell. Mic responds by shooting up from under his blanket, alert and ready for a fight. Looking at him apologetically, I say, "It's time." "Are you sure this is how it has to be, sir?" He asks as he grabs a premade pack full of food and tools to help him on his journey.

"I've thought it through Mic, and yes. Good luck on your journey," I say to him as I head to the door. Stepping outside, the cold wind blows into my face stinging my skin, but to my left a few miles away, I see the figures have landed safely and are making their way to a crash site about five miles from here. Looking closely, I see weaker life forces in the wreckage and an alarming amount of Grimm throughout the area. I activate my aura and rush to meet them there.

I was dreaming peacefully, save the occasional turbulence, of eating freshly baked cookies with my daughters when the Manta's crash alarm went off. After grabbing my weapon, I jumped with my fellow hunters, it hurt my heart to leave the civilians, but it was standard procedure. If we got injured, there would be no one to protect the survivors. Sadly, it was necessary as Grimm would pick them off before the rescue team could get here otherwise. Thankfully, there were no children to make this choice harder. As I'm falling, I watch the Manta stick the crash landing. 'Good, they made it,' I think as I turn to see the rapidly approaching trees.

I petal burst just before hitting the treeline and weave in between trees before landing in a nearby snow-filled clearing. I quickly check my surroundings for Grimm before petal bursting towards the crash site. Hopefully, it wasn't Grimm that caused the crash, so we can focus on treating the injured. 'Though a Manta can deal with most Grimm, so that shouldn't be it,' the woman thinks as she petals along.

Arriving at the site, my hopes are dashed as six manticores are clawing and breathing fire at the crashed Manta. 'Where did they even come from, and why are they so focused on the Manta?' I think before I switch my weapon to sniper mode and fire at the Grimm, hoping to distract them from the civilians. The first shot clips the wings of the closest crippling it. The next hits another one in the eye and kills it instantly. The last misses as the manticore jumps into the air, and the rest fly toward me. I switched my weapon to its spear mode, and petal burst through them, cutting and carving them up in the process, and once on the other side of the clearing, I opened fire again.

Repeating this dance with such fast Grimm was tiring, but I cleared them out without getting injured or endangering the people. Then, as the last Grimm dissipates, I check on the passengers, mostly scrapes and bruises. Thankfully, the pilot was able to land in a way that minimized danger to the passengers. "Where are the other hunters? Even the slowest hunter should have been here by now," an old chubby man says as I help him off of the ground in the Manta. Everyone looked tired and apathetic as if they had already given up. "They'll be here soon, but for now, quiet down and join the others," I say as I scan the treeline.

'We have to move soon before more Grimm shows up, but where?' I think as I study the horizon for anywhere that looks remotely safe, off in the distance, I see a mountain. 'It's our best bet,' I think. Then I notice purple and gold lights madly swinging and swaying as it gets closer. "That must be the other hunters. It took them long enough. What are we even paying you all for if you're not here to protect us!' the fat old man grumbled as a rabbit Fanus and a human rushed out of the woods before one tripped in the snow. "Will get up. We need to get away from the treeline!" The female Fanus said frantically.

I petal burst forward, grab them both, and petal burst back to the safety of the crashed Manta. "Meg, where are the others?" I ask the female rabbit Fanus. Her pale white skin was noticeably paler, and her brown hair was disheveled. She looks at me with tears in her green eyes and says, "They're dead. We only made it because of that little boy." "More like a little monster, he cleaved through the Grimm like he was walking through a park," Will, the black-haired and brown-eyed male, said, looking like he was on the verge of a panic attack. "He saved our lives and helped us get here. You just wanted to abandon everyone, yet he's the monster!" Meg said angrily, a far cry from the lovey-dovey couple they seemed to be on the Manta.

They started arguing, leaving me confused, 'What was a child doing out here,' but then their words sank in, and my motherly rage took over. "YOU LEFT A CHILD OUT THERE AS GRIMM FODDER!" I screamed at both of them. This was unforgivable, horrible, inconceivable that a poor baby was out there scared and alone, and they left that baby to die. Once I get these people home safe, I will rip these two a new butthole.

"It's cool they weren't much help anyway," a child's voice rang out. I look up to see a small child about the same age as my eldest. He had long black hair with white stripes, a tail to match, tanned skin, and beautiful shiny diamond-like eyes. He was covered in hides and furs. But despite the wild look, only one word could describe this child… Adorable.

I petal burst, grabbing the child, and petal burst back. I look over him for any wounds or injuries, then hug him. "It's ok little guy. I got you now. Everything's going to be ok," I say, rubbing his back, trying to comfort the poor boy. His face turns red, probably just trying not to cry, this poor baby must have been scared, but he's trying to be brave.

"T-This is nice and all, but we should go. There is a literal army of Grimm closing in, and we need to cover a lot of ground before we can be safe," The kid says as he looks up at me. So brave and smart, I think, as I say, "Yup, we're gonna go to that mountain, camp out for the night, and when we get back, I'm gonna get you a big bowl of cookies." "The mountain? Good, my home is there. We'll be safe there," The brave little boy says. 'So he lives out here. Where are his parents? They must be worried sick about him,' I think.

"Ok, grab the black box and follow me," I say to the civilians and hand the kid to Meg. She seemed the less vile of the two.

'This is the most embarrassing moment in my reincarnated life,' I think as I'm handed off to Meg. Did she not listen when they said I was butchering Grimm or that I saved the lives of her two comrades. I could've saved the other two if they had just listened and not tried to run down every Grimm they saw.

'I cleared a lot of the Grimm from here the base, so it should be fine,' I think while looking at the woman who hugged me and tried comforting me. 'White cloak with a red inside, motherly, and looks like Ruby decided to hit the MILF button. Yeah, that's Summer Rose, now I just have to protect her,' I think as I try to climb down the rabbit Fanus. I believe her name was Meg, but her grip tightens around me as she says, "She's right even if you could. We're scum for letting a child fight in our place."

'Oh no, not you too,' I think and say, "It's ok. I'm stronger than any of you, and I can handle any Grimm." This had the opposite effect of what I wanted as she started crying and said, "You shouldn't have to fight this battle. We should've protected you, you brave little boy." I sigh, seeing I can't get her to let go without a fight. I summon sixty orbs and will them to surround the group from a distance and kill any Grimm that gets near us.

After the light show, everyone looks at me with confusion, then just writes it off as the wild child being weird. So we all started running towards the mountain. As we run through the snow, I take a headcount, seven civilians, three hunters, and two dead. Some old fat man shoves the woman in front of him to get a little ahead of her. I use ki orbs to help her up and glare angrily at the man.

At the pace we were running, I estimated it would take about forty minutes before reaching the mountain. So as I'm being carried and bored, I just read notices and make sure that no one trips or trips others again and falls behind. That is until a real threat popped up on my notices.
