Chapter 23 - Chapter-23: JOEY

I was just right next the Beca, when the stupid bony hand started to pound on the window glass loudly.

People are annoying and I always hate them. Especially who lacks simple basic manners, forcing me to snap every time.

And yeah? Being one of a bitchy, cold and bold girl was not hard. All I needed to do is to be straightforward with unnecessary people. My egoism did made me lack friends but I had faced painful things that these silly fake cliche companions.

And here Rebecca being herself would prefer politeness but dude, that's not how you treat these idiots.

I got up from my seat and my hand overlapped Rebecca's legs, pressing the button to open the window.

The hand literally disappeared but in the dark it was nothing impossible.

"What in the pit?! No, like just break the window glass if you can! We will bless you! Idiopath." I muttered with an offensive frown and getting no response only intensified it.

I poked out of the window and looked around. There was no one at all.

"Good gracious, such delicious rage." I heard from my left , outside and as I turned my head- I better not mention the hideous appearance.

The complexion was around bisque but it seemed darker due to the lack of light at night. The top of her head was crusted with ebony black strips of rope-like hair twirling aimlessly in the air like snakes. Clumps of dirt stuck to her face and the loose skin was dripping from sides of her skeletal face.

"A PHANTOM!" I shrieked and put my head inside as fast as I could.

Gasping for breath, I heard Rebecca scream. Huh, it wasn't an illusion after all.

Fear could never had hit me any harder. Movies were a different matter. That was real.

Her grins stretched out to her ears- and it's not a metaphor.

My heard pounded harder than it ever could and her face only deteriorated my exhaling rate.

"Sta-start the car! Do it Beca! Right now! "

I wasn't exactly traumatized but boy, that was a harsh view which definitely made my heart jump back and forth my ribs thrice.

I couldn't afford to look back as I was concentrated on Rebecca trying to twist the key into place but her shivering hand had no possibility. And once it did- finally but not- the engine kept roaring without a budge.

The nasty grinning face appeared and without Rebecca looking at her, she raised her hand and lacerated Beca's skin just beneath her neck.

I gawked at the scene, widened eyes unaware of what to do.

I had always daydreamed about getting into these situations and people applauding for me after I defeated the evil with horrid punches and knock-offs.

But this reckoning reality was a serious preposterous matter.

They boys at the back were giving typical frightened expressions but I stared at Rebecca slowly losing her senses, as her head tilted to her side with eyes sealed.

We needed a drive and the driver itself was - god this was getting tougher.

I scanned around to see anything helpful as a weapon but the only thing in sight was a lipstick- now how could that...hold on.

I grabbed it, forwarded to the witch's face and insanely rubbed the whole carmine lipstick on the face- ridiculous but hilarious. Then I poked the stick into her eye, damn me.

I chuckled when she backed off form the car and I sat on top of Beca, intending for a fast drive.

"Someone, anyone move Rebecca on the next seat! Move it boys!"

"Yeah I'll do it." Austin answered.

"No I will " Clay held him back.

"I said first!"

"No, she's my best friend!"

"Doesn't matter. I offered first."

I would've seriously beat them into a pulp but our lives depended on me.

I uncomfortably stood up and moved Rebecca. Since the witch was almost succeeding in removing the lipstick from her eyes, I moved the car. Finally.

I started off real fast to Beca's house since it was closer.

Just approximately 4 more kilometers and the hills would be gone.

As I glanced over at the side mirror to check if she was following us but before confirming that, my left eye witnessed an obstacle for which my instincts worked on the brakes.

We rocked forward and spotted the tall obstacle turning into that hideous woman as she came forward.

I thought I would run over her but like a vampire's stealth, in a flash, she stood right in front of our car.

Flashing a smirk, she used her long gritty nails to move circularly on the front glass. She created a circle and that piece fell inward to the gear table.

My heart skipped beats. I went utterly blank.

She didn't put her body inside, fortunately, but she forwarded towards Becca and grabbed her by the neck without any force.

She seemed to be chanting something inaudible and moved her hand up to her jawline. Then a glistering yellow glow swarmed up from her throat towards her mouth- that was magically opening and a bright yellow sphere came up to the witch's hand. No more than a second, she once again grabbed Beca's neck but this time more firmly. She was going to kill her, dang it!

Panting, gasping, I looked around again for tools and saw that piece of glass. That might work for a while.

I took it and slapped it on the witch's face, forcing her to leave Beca and move back inside.

I gained better senses and decided to pull out my weapon. As I did, still unknown to using it, I simply wrapped it around her neck, twisted the ends, and pulled it.

She choked and coughed, and I laughed. It might just kill her!

I pulled it harder, pressuring on the strangling process - until her head came off. I must be joking, haha.

Wait for no...

I felt my weapon lose from its vigor and the head came off from her neck horrendously except there was no blood flowing from either part.

I heard Austin give a slight yell before kicking the decapitated head out the half-broken front glass, striking her body along with it.

My eyebrows were knitted in confusion but I was totally blank inside. Emotions, sorry what was the meaning of it?

I didn't hesitate to start the car instantly and knowingly run over her body. This was all still murderous newbies for me, and I was already getting into my senses, myself.

That time, I didn't even want to look back through the gear to see her following.

"This is the purity of awesomeness." I smiled, grinned, and laughed. I was going crazy as I recklessly drove past the hills.

That- until the car slowed its pace, I realized about some mechanical car problems. What luck we had.

"Ca-Casper, we need him. None of the spirits' have teleportation power except him." I suggested.

"But we also need Beca for communication."

"And she's...she's alright right?" Clay whispered in tensity. He was playing with his fingers, his gaze down in tension between.

"Yeah, like she's one of the I-know-I'm-shy-but-I'm-secretly-bearing-stuff girls so this little scratch? Pfft, no way." I waved my hand for consolation.

"However, let's ask our spirits if anyone can call Casper." I quickly changed the topic to make it add fewer sentiments.

"Dad, you can call Beca's Cassie right?"

"No honey. I-I mean ye-yes but...uh..."

"What's wrong?"

"We don't really have a very thickening relationship here..."

"Do you even have to fight in your afterlife? I mean the life after your death but before the afterlife...like...whatever, just ask him! We can get ambushed from anywhere! Quick!" I whisper-yelled.

"Fine. But how do you say sorry to a spirit who is very yes and no generous but_"

"I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry? That's it?"

"Oh lord."

"Fine. Fine. I-I'll do it."

As expected, the car stopped voluntarily and we waited- which felt like hours.

But luckily that witch was nowhere to be seen for the last 20 minutes. And to spend the time, we gained some information about her, La Llorona.

She was said to be one of the descendants of Dark Lord- or as they say- whose-name-not-to-mention, not as much sly as the pixies, but outrageously dangerous.

Along with that, she is legendary in all spirit myths. Drowning all her 13 children, she proposed to her lover but got rejected. That made her go inferno to insane, slowly leading to suicide. That's when the gods decided to punish her. She never made it to hell or heaven but rather hopelessly roamed around on earth, sometimes with chains all over her body or not, searching for her children. And when she didn't, she took advantage of her capabilities and haunted every child- kinda like Pennywise.

And the only non-anonymous information about her was that she ate voices.

Not surprised but horribly melancholy for Beca to lose her voice. Stupid Ursula.

We just meandered around the field beside a shop, waiting for Casper. I called out to dad a hundred times but he was unheard.

I stomped on the ground angrily and went to kick that stupid car junk. I was about to turn around just when I saw a reflection. But that wasn't me.

"Aaaaah! She's here again, not again! I wasn't ready...! Oh, how does it matter now?!"

I backed up swiftly from the car and she broke through the window glass and came outside of the shattered pieces.

We gathered around in a circle, now that it was an open-field and kept Beca safe in the middle.

"Anyone up for a training session?" I yelled excitedly.

"Beats me," Clay answered.

I knew I was gonna fight bullshit but it was worth a shot.

I took my weapon out and did the basic turnarounds as a warning move.

She ran towards us and I did the same. That reminded me of Avengers' Civil war.

Just as I was about to hit that shitty witch, she disappeared from my view.

That seemed good news for the others but damn, the woman's a scaredy-cat. Or no.

I looked around at the surroundings and discerned I was at an aesthetic-themed room, mostly colored with the white shades. I hate that color.

I pivoted to see my teammates but they were nowhere to be seen except Beca lying on the couch.

When I saw some framed photographs of Beca, it meant that I was in her room. But how...?

"Aah honey. Sorry, it took me long to get along with Casper."

"That relates." I rolled my eyes, "At least we are safe."

Or maybe not.
