To say my heart was shattered to puzzled pieces and all my mascara drowning in my tears was an understatement.
Rebecca was not only my sister from another mother, but half my life depended on her. Or at least that's what I thought.
Idiopathic girl. I was an idiopathic stupid girl to even believe that there would be something genuine about our relationship. After the separation, we never met in person, only talked virtually.
I thought she told me everything as I shared. But I never recall her mentioning about her new group of best friends- or about what I saw - the paranormal potencies: how her so-called friends maximised from their tiny state like a superheroic scene.
And good gracious I had my camera open for the magnificently supernatural video.
And there I was ringing the bell of Beca's house with the inquisitive policemen standing behind me.
After a few minutes of desperate waiting, the door slightly opened with a masked blue-haired girl.
"Yes?" She asked with move it or lose it look and stared behind me, "Why the hell are those stupid police here?"
"W-we are here to investigate Rebecca and her friends."
"Wait, what? Why? When?" She looked more interested but pestered with a scowl face as she removed her mask from her mouth.
I froze.
"She's one of them! She's one of the shrinked friends of Rebecca, I saw it! And I can cross my heart on this!" I accused, widening my eyes.
"No...what are you talking about girl?! Are you from a mental hospital or something? Like seriously none of us in this house has nothing to do with you, so move it." She ordered and slammed the door immediately.
I complained to the policemen but they were the least to care. They gave some excuse and most logical reasonings to get rid of my case.
They left, and I was alone wiping my disappointed tears that rolled down my cheek.
I wanted to investigate further but since my nana would be waiting, I turned back.
Just as icy cold, a bony hand clutched my shoulder and I fringed.
"Such a heartbroken sweetheart, do you need a mommy right now?"
I looked back instantly but I regretted my action. I gasped. My hands began to shake before I could scream to death and get horror made me go numb.
I...I become breathless with the ridiculous view I had in front of my very own bulging eyes.
Cadaverous was she, rotting flesh went drippy down her face features and frail arms hung down from her torso that was slowly making way to my neck.
Before I could react any further, she twirled me around; my back tumbling her torso and her nails filed into sharp points touched my neck.
In front of me, I spotted that blue-haired girl, jaw hunging down.
She then squinted her eyes in some heroic angry way and took some type of thin rope from her pocket.
She swiftly swung it over towards me and that rope tied up the creepy woman's hand that was about to snap off my neck. She then pulled the rope to herself and the woman's hand went away from my neck. I took that chance to duck and crawl away towards the girl's side.
She then dropped the rope she was holding and pulled out... nunchacks from her another pocket. The chains maximised it's length as she pulled it out and threw it oscillating in the air but soon enough moving downwards to the witch's legs, tying both her legs together with the chain. And she plummeted down.
"Nice move!" I boosted my hand in the air but she just grabbed my hand and took me inside.
"What was she?"
"La Llorona. And I'm Joey. Look I don't know why she was attacking you and we don't have time before she comes back for another ambush. But since you have become her victim, you have to stay with us."
Prior to her explanation, I saw Rebecca coming downstairs from my left eye corner.
She definitely looked surprised and used her index finger to point at me but her eyes fixed on Joey. She opened her hand and shook it as if asking about my presence. Couldn't she talk?
I averted my gaze quickly in rage, deciding to avoid talking with her.
"She got attacked by her. Can you fill her up with the info? She's in the I'm-so-curious-that-I'll-die list." She emphasised with quotation marks and I stood offended, "I'll go through the window and call the others, you okay with that girl?"
Both of them exchanged smiles and I could feel a burning sensation of jealousy. No way.
Joey then moved out, hopping out of the window and an eerie silence took over.
Interrupted by the door slamming open, we both gasped and trembled in the dread that awaited our fate.
La Llorona was about to throw spikes from her hand just when an invisible force stopped in at the mid point of hitting us.
The invisibility grew genuinely into a teenage boy with glistening silver hair but I didn't have time to look at his face features.
"Reccy, go!"
She grabbed my hand tightly and hauled me upstairs. I had no option but to be on Beca's side hesitatingly. She ceased to run and look down, resting her hands on the railing, I could see water swimming at the brim of her eyes.
Rebecca opened her mouth wide as if to yell at the mysterious boy who was brawling with Llorona using the art of magic.
She panted and grasped but decided to lock ourselves in the room.
She intertwined her fingers in a ball and shut her eyes, like she was praying.
An involuntary feeling made my hand put on her shoulder as I inquired, "It will be okay. And your magical boyfriend would not probably want to leave you so easily, yeah?"
She chuckled without any sound from her voice box., opening her eyes.
"He doesn't quite look like your brother."
We for interrupted by a scratching noise by the door.
"Need to stash ourselves ASAP."
Scanning the room for a few seconds, both our attention switched under the bed.
"That's classic but effective," I muttered.
We rolled under the bed and I had the nerves to suddenly chuckle, "Remember the sea-doos we made under the tall bed that sang-" I paused, realizing Beca would not talk to me since she was quiet the whole time. I closed my parted lips and glanced at her once. She had a short smile plastered on her face with an eager look.
"What? You don't want to hear, do you?"
Her smile dropped and she immediately shook her head. She pointed to her neck and again shook her hand, showing that...that she can't talk?
"What do you mean by you can't talk?"
She shrugged and pursued her lips. Her hands forwarded with her palms facing me is a shaking gesture. She pinpointed her ears with another impeccable smile which indicated me to continue what I saying. I felt reluctant but at the same time, I couldn't control my urge to chat with her.
"-The songs in the 80s because we misplaced the CD track and had to listen to it every time we forgot the password to turn it off. It was our secret masterpiece."
"Yeah, where robotic physics class was utilized."
That quiet contentment soon wrapped a melancholic fog around me. Why was I even jabbering with her?
The awkward silence was finally- but unfortunately halted by the door opening.
"Where are my children hiding?" She snickered in a sing-song.
The footsteps approached our ears but we remained as quiet as our breaths could.
I could totally feel her searching for every clue, stain, and signs for our presence.
I glanced over to Rebecca once to see her state and with wrinkles formed at the corner of her eyes as she pressed them hard and enjoined her palms together praying to God.
I wanted to chuckle slightly but isn't take the chance.
Feeling my gaze on her, she opened them at me but with immediate bulged out eyes.
I looked at my side to see what she was staring at and...I gasped with a choked neck.
An accelerated heart rate made my goosebumps rise up and I awfully wanted to exchange places with my voice which ran away.
Rebecca squeezed her eyes and stuck her palms to the bed, wanting to push it away.
No way.
I gave a small yelp out of disorientation and a heavy feeling curled in my stomach.
When I witnessed Rebecca, giving her best to thrust the bed, I thought she was human.
But the bed sprung away in front of us, creating a much open aura.
A look of puzzlement crossed her face as if she herself was new to what she did.
"How'd you throw the bed so high?!"
She looked equally puzzled but we sure hadn't forgotten about the chaos queen beside us so decided to run away downstairs.
"That friend can transport us to Gran's house and then we can breathe a non-polluted air." She gestured in a type of sign language which seemed familiar and understandable while running down the stairs.
"Gran? I thought..." I panted in between from all the exhaustion, "...she was no more...or?"
"No, it's...it's a long story. Tell you later."
"Of course," I muttered disappointedly.
We stopped in our tracks, spotting Joey and three other boys including the tiny one that I took hold of.
They also had a sense of coldness inside, judging by their dreadful expressions
"Cas-Casper! Transport us to Organa's cottage RN."
But I thought we were going to her presumably not dead grandma's house?
Rebecca seemed like she was hearing someone's words but since it was none of us talking, it must've been that invisible lad.
I soon found that my spirit has borne aloft by that new interest. I loved adventures and that was it. No matter how perilous the journey would be or on whatever dodgy rope our lives would be stood upon, we would end up in our bedrooms, right?
At least, saying that made me feel cooler and chilled.
Rebecca suddenly held my hand and that boy, creating a circle. We got told to shut our eyes.
And when I did, I could feel certain energy-draining through my veins. Curious enough, I opened them but saw all of us standing in the center of a damp, dark ballroom of supposedly a dusty old mansion.
"So where is she...?" I inquired.
"This...this is not Gran's house." Joey looked around but fixed her eyes in a particular direction, then falling on her knees. She forwarded her hands to...to hold shoulders of someone and maybe, that was Casper. Oh god, my questions were digging my coffin to my death.
"Casper! Are you...are you alright?! What happened to you_ I TOLD YOU TO NOT FIGHT! YOU WON'T JUST LISTEN AND HAVE TO BE THE HERO EVEN WHEN YOU ARE DEAD AND...and..a_"
"I'm sorry Belle. I-my powers weakened down so my transporting frequency, the matter had to glitch and we ended up in this...this deserted mansion." I heard that same adolescent voice and presumed the situation to be a melancholy one, thus keeping myself quiet.
I stood alone at the corners for the time being whilst the main characters - as I wanted to describe as - were probably making up a stratagem to defeat that monstrous woman.
As far as I could comprehend, they came to nothing since they knew nothing about her.
Someone tapped me from behind and I casually turned around, "You're the one who licked my poop, right?"
"What...? What are you talking about?"
"I'm Clayton. Now that you know all about us, I should tell you that the Nutella thing you saw and tasted from the mini shoe which was mine. That was poop."
My jaw hung down at what I might had done but pretended not to care or just- "Haha, Good joke man. Now big boys don't poop in shoes and it was really dark. Gross though." I faked a chuckle.
He started to guffaw which confused me more. So it was a joke after all.
"That won't be fun and it was poop. I somehow threw my shoe with the circumstanced situation that was. And of course, I have such strength."
"Yeah, you do look like you suck." I joked back. He squinted his eyes and went back to the group circle.
That wasn't a great impression from neither of us. And that thing was definitely not pooped. Mind me.
I felt another poke on my back which irritated me. Offended I turned back.
My eyes popped out again as I yelped. Why me all the time?
I seriously wanted to cry on my teddy's lap but really- that was just too much to sink in, in a few seconds.
I shrieked like the typical and ran towards the group circle. As soon as they witnessed La Llorona appearing out of the blue- once again, we had no option, no master plan, nothing except our legs for another run. I need a sleep break. I just wanted to sleep.
