Chapter 1 - chapter 1

The Battle in the Abandoned Mansion

"Ah, you thought I'd let you go, you evil witch?" The black-haired girl shouted, gripping a wooden wand in her hand, its tip glowing faintly in the dim light.

Across from her stood a sinister-looking woman, draped in a tattered blue gown that shimmered like cursed silk. Her wild, frizzy gray hair cascaded around her face, sharp, crooked nails curling like claws. Her eyes—black and hollow—held an eerie, bottomless hunger, like a void ready to swallow anything in its path.

The abandoned mansion groaned under the weight of an unsettling wind. The clouds outside churned like they carried whispers of the dead, and the air crackled with the anticipation of a fight. Everyone in town spoke of this place in hushed voices, warning their children never to step near it. But now, within its decaying walls, a battle of power was unfolding.

Both the girl and the witch stood their ground, eyes locked, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

"What happened? Cat got your tongue?" the girl taunted, spinning her wand effortlessly between her fingers, a smirk dancing on her lips.

The witch's expression twisted in fury. Her thin lips curled into a snarl as she glared at the girl, her fingers twitching with barely contained rage.

Without another second of hesitation, the witch thrust her arm forward, sending a fiery orb hurtling through the air. The girl reacted swiftly, dropping to the ground as the fireball barely missed her, singeing the dust-covered floor instead. She rolled onto her feet, flicked her wand in a swift arc, and sent a stunning spell that struck the witch hard in the chest.

A strangled scream escaped the woman's lips as her wand was blasted from her grip, flying across the room. She stumbled back, her breath coming out in ragged pants as she frantically searched for her weapon.

Her gaze darted around until she spotted the wand lying a few feet away. Desperation flickered in her dark eyes as she lunged toward it, but before she could reach, the girl stepped forward and snatched it up first.

A slow, satisfied smile stretched across the girl's face as she pointed both wands at the fallen witch.

"Now tell me, you wicked thing, who's the most powerful?" she asked, taking slow, deliberate steps forward.

For the first time, the witch's expression shifted. It wasn't just anger or hatred anymore. It was... fear.

"Will you wake up?"

The words sliced through the tension like a blade.

The girl's brow furrowed. "...What?"

The witch's own eyes widened in confusion, her lips parting like she, too, had no idea why she had just said that. Her fingers curled into fists. "Will you wake up," she repeated, more forcefully this time.

Something was wrong. Something felt off.

A sudden, ear-piercing shriek shattered the air.

Reality Strikes—Welcome Back, Vanessa

"WAKE UP, NESSA! It's already 9:15!"

Vanessa Valencia jolted awake, her heart hammering against her ribs.

Her half-lidded, chocolate-brown eyes blinked groggily as she sat up, her black hair a wild, tangled mess from tossing and turning. A familiar, very real voice echoed in her ears—her mother.

"Who wouldn't wake up from such a sweet scream, Mom?" Vanessa grumbled, raking her fingers through her tangled hair.

Meet Vanessa Valencia, a seventeen-year-old with a love for magic—particularly Harry Potter—and a strong belief that maybe, just maybe, there's more to the world than what meets the eye.

She lived in California, far away from the city's chaos, with her mother, Alisa Valencia—a sharp, confident woman in her mid-thirties. With long black hair, honey-brown eyes, and a figure that still turned heads, Alisa worked as an HR manager for DAZZLE, an export-import company. Today, however, was her day off.

And she was using it to mercilessly wake her daughter up.

"Vanessa, get up! Or do you want me to bring your toothbrush, your breakfast, and a handwritten apology for disturbing your royal highness?" Alisa teased, arms crossed.

Vanessa groaned before suddenly pointing an imaginary wand at her mother.

"Silencio!" she chanted dramatically.

Alisa arched a brow, completely unimpressed. "That 'Silencio Vilencio' nonsense won't work on me," she said, taking slow steps toward her daughter, which sent alarm bells ringing in Vanessa's head.

Alisa turned to Vanessa's bookshelf, plucking one of the well-worn Harry Potter books from its spot.

"Of course, it doesn't work on Muggles," Vanessa huffed, dragging herself out of bed.

"You know, with just a swish and flick, everything would clean itself," Vanessa said, twirling in a playful dance.

"Magic doesn't work in the real world, sweetheart."

Vanessa gasped, clutching her chest dramatically. "Oh, the betrayal! Father was right! Muggles can't see the magic!"

Alisa, now tidying up Vanessa's room, suddenly froze. A shadow passed over her face.

Vanessa noticed immediately. "...What? Am I in trouble?"

Alisa turned slowly, hands on her hips. "You brought a cat into your room, didn't you?"

Vanessa's life flashed before her eyes.

Mother vs. Daughter—The Ultimate Chase

"VANESSA!"

"You can't prove that!"

"The fur is still on the carpet!"

"Maybe it walked in by itself?"

Alisa didn't buy a word of it. Within seconds, she was chasing Vanessa around the room. The younger girl scrambled onto the bed, but her mother followed, determined.

"Don't you dare run—"

Vanessa leapt off, dodging and diving under the bed.

"Get back here, young lady!"

"You're getting old, woman! You can't keep up!" Vanessa teased from her hiding spot.

Alisa paused, panting, hands on her knees. "Old, am I?"

Before Vanessa could react, her mother pounced, tackling her onto the bed. A scream of laughter filled the room.

"AHH! NO! MOM!"

"TICKLE ATTACK!"

"No—MOM—PLEASE!"

Vanessa gasped between bursts of uncontrollable laughter, her stomach aching from the relentless tickling.

"Say I'm not old!"

"F-Fine! Y-You're not—OH GOD—NOT OLD!"

Alisa finally showed mercy, standing up with a victorious grin.

"That's for the cat and calling me old."

Vanessa wheezed, holding her stomach. "Oh God... my sides..."

"Now go freshen up," Alisa said.

Vanessa nodded but suddenly wrapped her arms around her mom. "I love you, Mom."

Alisa smiled, patting her head. "This Muggle loves you too, but if you're not in the bathroom in two minutes, I'll show you what kind of witch I can be."

Breakfast & Plans

By the time Vanessa got downstairs, the smell of warm pancakes filled the air.

"Mmm, pancakes!" she cheered, sliding into her chair.

"It's my day off," Alisa said, sipping her coffee.

"Same perfect taste, as always," Vanessa said, taking a bite.

"So, what's the plan for today?"

"I was thinking we could go out," Vanessa suggested.

Alisa tilted her head. "Didn't you have something important today?"

Vanessa froze.

"Shit!" she yelped.

Alisa rolled her eyes. "Watch your language."

"Sorry! Gotta go, meeting Kova. Love you, bye!" Vanessa said, grabbing her bag, kissing her mom, and dashing out.

Alisa chuckled. "Muggle or not, that girl sure believes in magic."
