"What do you mean?' he asked.
Somya remained silent for few moments before saying, "Nothing."
After they hung up, Somya sat on her balcony chair with Rocky in her lap and started listening to songs. After some time, she asked herself, 'How come whatever song I am listening to turning out to be him? What's wrong with my imaginations?' She blamed her inside fangirl for this and went to sleep.
But what she doesn't know is, when your heart knows, it knows. There's no explaining it. You can only trust it.
Somya had never been in love before because her heart didn't find anyone suited for him. Now when her heart knows he exists, how can it not love him.
On Saturday,
Somya called Varun early in the morning, "Hi! Sweety, how are you doing?"
"Straight to the point, Hooligan," he said in a hoarse voice.
"The birds told me you are still sleeping like a dead man, so out of goodwill, I decided to wake you up. You don't need to thank me," she winked on the phone.
"Yea, I don't need to thank you, but I need to hang up on you." Varun, who was sleeping comfortably till a few minutes back, was now up due to the continuous chattering of someone.
"Yes, yes! You must 'hang out' with me. Don't tell me you forget?" she said in a sad voice.
"I don't know what you are talking about." he teased her.
"Oh! Bad boy, you just broke my heart. How could you forget you had a date with me today." she pouted.
"Sorry, I don't date bunnies." he teased her even more.
"You...I won't talk to you."
"Glad to hear that."
"Hey? You..." but he already hung up on her. Somya felt like hitting him with a broom. 'How desperate is he to get rid of me that he even hung up on my joke?' she thought but soon dismissed the thought. 'I am only talking to him for some fun. He knows this well. That's why he has the right to shut me up,' she concluded and busied herself with chores.
It was Saturday, so Somya didn't have to go to the office that day. She cleaned her whole room first then went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. After having breakfast with her family, she has nothing left to do. So, she starts thinking about him again. 'Is he still annoyed with me? Should I try calling him? What if he is busy?' she bit her lips hard.
On the other side of the balcony, Mr. Kashyap had no idea of her inside quarrel. He already knew what she was reminding him. He just hung up on her because he didn't want to be late for her treat. Not when Miss Hooligan is finally willing to give him a treat.
Somya had already asked him to come to her house at 10 a.m. So he reached there at the right time. He thought for few moments before calling her.
Somya was still deeply drowned in her thoughts. She didn't notice the car parked near her house. Suddenly, her phone rang. Checking the caller-id on the phone doesn't know why but her heart jumped inside her chest happily.
'Yes! I knew he would call me.' she screamed in her heart.
She quickly picked it up, "Hey!"
"Why are you not out yet?"
"Huh?"
"I am already here. Where are you?"
"SHOOT!" Somya hit her forehead. What in the world was she reasoning that she even forget to get ready. Now, the host is here sitting in her nightsuit, and her guest had already reached the gates. 'Oh, Great! If I didn't piss him in the morning, then I will do it now.'
"Hello?" he asked in his cello voice.
"Buddy, why don't you come inside and grab a drink first?"
"Why?"
"Uhm...because I m not ready yet," she told him in an almost whisper.
"Sigh...fine."
Varun knocked on the gates, and Somya's mother opened the door for him.
"Beta*, you are here. Come quickly," greeted Mrs. Sharma with a sweet smile.
"Namaste* aunty," he greeted her back.
Varun sat on the sofa in the living room, and Mrs. Sharma fetched a cup of tea for him.
"So, how is everyone at your house, beta?" asked Mrs. Sharma.
"Everything is fine," he replied with his calm demeanor.
"Oh! By the way, how old is your daughter?" she asked curiously.
Varun almost choked on his tea, "Who?"
"Your daughter? I must say you look nothing like a married man who already has a daughter. You must be married young," she said while feeling slightly bad for her daughter.
Varun frowned and understood that it's a doing of a particular she-devil, "Aunty, you misunderstood. Neither I am married nor do I have a daughter."
"How come? Somu, told me you were married," then she realized she had been fool by Somya, "This naughty daughter of mine. I am sorry for the misunderstanding."
"It's okay, aunty."
"So, beta* are you single?" Mrs. Sharma asked with stars in her eyes.
Before Varun can respond, a sweet voice rang from behind them, "Save some talk for the later, mom. Let's go, Varun." Somya came into view, wearing a yellow knee-length one-piece. She had her long hair tied in a ponytail and have Kajal* in her eyes.
Varun looked accusingly at this fox who made him wait 15 minutes. It could be the longest time he waited for someone in the past few years.
Somya smiled cheekily and strode towards the door. Varun followed behind her.
"So, are we going on my scooter or your car? Petrol is a natural resource, and we have the responsibility to save it for future generations. So we will be using one vehicle only," she winked at him.
Varun sighs. How did he believe that this money-saver is going to give him a treat? "Fine. Let's go in my car."
"Okay," she said happily.
After sitting in the car,
"So, when are you going to tell me?" he asked.
"What?"
"About my wife and my daughter. I wanna meet them," he asked with a wry smile.
Somya already knew that her lie had been see-through, so she replied shamelessly,
"Just marry someone, and you will get your wife and a daughter."
"And what if I had a son rather than a daughter?" Varun smiled mischievously at her.
"Simple. Try again and keep trying until you get a daughter," she returned her mischievous grin with a wink.
Varun laughs at her shamelessness.
Somya switches on the radio in his car. A song played, and out of habit, Somya started singing along.
Varun looks at this happy-go-lucky girl and smirks.
"Hey? You can sing, right?"
"No."
"Liar!"
"....."
"I don't believe you."
