Chapter 2 - A Phone Call !

(A few years back )

( The beginning of the story... )

"Try to understand Somu, Ansh is a great boy beta*. He is an engineer in a renowned company with a good package. Their family and our family are good friends, so even if they ask for dowry, we can convince them for something less, and we can manage that much. His whole family knows you, and they adore you. They understand our situations well, and they have helped us from time to time. Ansh is a thoughtful child. He will keep you happy, beta*...," said Mrs. Sharma, Somya's mom, earnestly.

"Mom, it's not that he is a bad person, it's just that I am not good enough to marry him," Somya explained the same fact yet again while patting Rocky's fur.

"Stop this nonsense, stop making excuses. I am tired of your justifications. As long as we don't tell anyone, nobody will know anything, so don't hold yourself," roared her mom angrily.

She just smiled.

"Look, you are already 23 and never had any boyfriend. When are you planning to get married? When I'd become too old to attend the ceremony? Then when are you planning on giving me grandchildren? After my funeral? Ansh is..."

And here we go again!

Somya ignored her mom's words and concentrated on smoothening her Rocky's hair. Rocky is her little baby who is no more little. He is a labra dog whom she raised. He is an obedient dog, at least in front of her.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, her mom's speech ended with the similar words, "....huh it's your life, after all, all I can do is advice you a little otherwise what can my old bones do if you refuse." She curled her lips while getting emotional.

"It's okay, mom. I understand your concern, and I promise I will think about it. Even if I don't think then God gifted me such great parents who think my marriage is their priority and discuss it with the three meals every day."

Her words made her mum obviously angry, but just before she can twist her ear, Somya's phone interrupted her. Somya jumped happily, "It's fine, mom. Let's talk about this later, or if you are willing, then never." She grinned and started running towards her room from the living room before her mother could catch her.

Actually, her mom is not the type she just displayed, which we know as 'pestering types.' She is a really cool mom, which makes Somya's friends jealous. She is the most well-liked person in Somya and her dad's friend circle, even more than Somya herself! Only when it comes to matters like these, her mom behaves like this!!

She believes in ancient culture. I don't mean she is an orthodox person. What I mean is she believes in ultimate monarchy in the house, and thus here in Somya's home, it's 'Mom's house Mom's rules.'

She has that God-gifted superpower to make anyone obey her commands either by saying or by requesting even by continuous pestering when any of these doesn't work then by beating too...woo woo. If she wants, she can even make Rocky obey her commands. But it's just that she has enough servants (like Somya, her brother, her dad), so she doesn't need more, and she is too lazy to teach Rocky how to serve sigh...

Somya finally reached into her room and picked her phone. It's her batchmate's call, Dia. She pulled her phone out, and as expected, a very dull voice greeted her,

"Hi, are you done with the preparations?" Dia sleepily asked.

"huh....which preparations?"

"As expected, you forget," she said in an almost sleeping voice. Well, it's already 10 pm, so Diya being a very good girl, sleeps early and wakes up early.

"Well you can't blame me for that, you already know that I barely manage to attend college once a week, all thanks to my job's weekend leaves and this week's weekend are yet to come so how would I know what I have to prepare for," she humored.

"Damn your stupid bank job! There you are, counting banknotes, and here I am tangling myself in ribbons and balloons every day with these stupid preparations," she said. Now Dia woke up completely, Somya presumed.

"Oh...if that's the case, then continue. I won't disturb you anymore, and for the sake of not disturbing you, I won't even come to college this weekend," 'hehehe and will sleep in the house the entire day,' Somya imagined but sigh..., she doesn't have such luxury.

"Stop making fun of me. You clearly know I don't like these childish kinds of stuff."

" Then did you call me for complaining over some balloons and ribbons. Then don't worry, I registered your complaint. Now you may sleep at ease."

"Shut up, and don't make me angry. Otherwise, I won't tell you it's Fresher's party this Saturday in the college, and we seniors are going to host it."

"That's okay, darling! You don't need to tell me now. Just telling me what role I have to play in this party will do," Somya responded excitedly. Afterall, one of the reasons she joined college again was because of these activities. She already had completed her studies and got a decent job as well. But because she enjoys college life and is greedy for more learning opportunities, she joined a university.

"Listen carefully, it's already Friday tomorrow, so madam does honor us by coming tomorrow to fill a form and add your name as a host, then the director will give you directions about your job in the event."

"As you say, Your highness!"

They chit-chatted for a while before hanging up. Diya is her 'new' friend in her 'new' college, or better say a one-year new college.

Dia is a silence-loving girl and one who won't mess with you until you mess with her. She is an intelligent girl who loves to hug her silence wherever she goes.

Let me tell you Somya's little secret, Somya loves those people who stay silent all the time because they are perfect creatures for testing her abilities, the ability to make anybody speak. It's what makes her befriend these people.

Diya is her part-time spy in the college...oops...I mean, she is the one who tells Somya whatever happened in her absence in the college.

When Somya was busy patting Rocky to sleep, someone in the same city was busy saving a life in the operation theatre.
