"F-father?"
His voice had cracked and lowered into a non-existent whisper. There was nothing else to say.
The creature was lying above its stomach but it lifted its head slowly to look at Hellion. It's eyes held Hellion's anticipated ones gently, like an assuring hand-shake; a warm hand-shake with unsaid promise. Hellion couldn't tell if this was an approval of his earlier said word or if this creature was nothing more than an odd animal who was just looking blankly at him to understand what this human was calling it.
But the heart doesn't lie...does it?
He helped the creature stand up by supporting its weight and heavy wings that looked tattered and burned at spots. He wondered what happened to them because they were like this even before they brought it here. As soon as the creature stood up completely, Hellion saw that there was still a dagger inside its chest, right above the heart.
