Chapter 5: Sneak
I kept my pace as faster as I could whilst keeping my mouth shut in spite of my lungs begging for drastic amount of air due to my running activity. I made sure to keep my feet light as they tapped rapidly on the ground, each step takes a level of skill from me to stay silent.
Was it Giselle and the other maids with her? Did they hear me talking to myself? Oh, my gosh! Why am I so loud and talkative that I can't control my mouth from speaking outloud? Was my supposed energy from my past life passed down to this lifetime? That's so...
Sweats trickled down from my forehead as I carefully tip-toed to make my steps completely muted. The footsteps I was hearing became less heavy, feeling like the person who was nearby suddenly take turn to another direction.
Wait ... now that I noticed ... it was just footsteps from one person. It's not Giselle, wasn't it?
Or maybe ... it was that handsome knight who always checked up on me?!
If he happen to joined Giselle in finding me, I am in a critical condition!
That knight was also mentioned on the story.
His name was Bastarache Cadieu ... he was a minor character who was mentioned as one of the few people who fought toe to toe against the emperor who was going on a berserk and also one of those poor people who died on the hands of that scumbag!
Despite of being a minor character, due to my past self reading the novel a lot of times more than I can count, I have memorized each elements of the story that even the minor down to the least mentioned characters was already stamped deep within my mind.
Bastarache was described as easily one of the skilled royal knights directly serving under the emperor. He has a great sense of hearing and eyesight that he can detect the slightest movement from afar so I really, really, need to be careful from now on!
I moved my feet as light as I sprinted towards the room nearby. My heart was throbbing so hard when I stopped in front it's door. I pulled the handle, and luckily, it wasn't locked!
I stepped in hastily and closed the door behind me.
I was greet by a grand bedroom, too big to become one. It almost three times bigger from the room I'm living, I used to think that that room was the biggest, I couldn't believe that it was nothing compared to this one.
It was as if themed, the color I see almost everywhere was royal blue and some purple for trimmings. The insanely huge bed was enchanting to look at. Everything has a royalty feel on it.
Does anyone use this room? I want it! Can I claim it?
Just before I could drown myself into my growing greed for the fancy place, I stuck my ear against the door. I couldn't hear anything but the sound of wind inside my ear.
Just to make sure, I decided to stay in the room for a little longer just so the number of people looking for me will guaranteed gone as they already looking for other places. I can't take any risk to be caught ... and it's not that I want to stay in this room because it's so beautiful, it's just because I'm being careful.
I lifted the skirt of my dress up to my thighs to climb up to the high stature of the king-sized bed. I huffed and breathed hard as I struggled to reach the top.
"Haaah! Finally!" I lay flat on my stomach seconds before rolling around. I stared at the starry ceiling of the tent of the huge bed.
"Wow~"
It has a calming effect on ones mind. It was a beautiful and serene view.
Was is work of magic? Well, I'm not that amazed anymore as I grew used to it. Every single person I meet for the passed years can use magic.
Well, it's a fantasy world, after all.
Except for ... Deianeira? I mean, me. I haven't shown any sign that I can cast any magic. Or was it because I'm just too young? If ever, I want to become invisible right now so that I can sneak out easily.
"Hmmm... magic, huh." I puck up my lips, recalling the tiniest of the details of the novel.
Then I recalled about the legend of the this certain warlock who was confined in the doorless tower just beside the Emperor's Palace.
He was locked in an early age of ten. The reason? He just happened to massacre a massive number of knights just by looking at them.
He was renowned as the youngest and also the strongest royal warlock in the history.
He was the most intriguing person to me as he was the only character who did not make any participation nor showed throughout the entire novel, but was described mysteriously by the writer.
And his name ... was Belial.
Minutes passed and I thought that I enjoyed myself enough laying on the soft mattress. It's time to get going!
I slid down from soft futon and landed safely on the ground. I headed towards the door and slightly opened it.
I stuck my head out of the door and look outside, specifically, on the path I'm about to take.
Okay! Okay ... there should be no one around by now, right?
I finally emerged from the room and inhaled all the air I could intake.
Time to runaway, Deianeira!
But just as I stepped my right foot forward, a deep, menacing voice, stopped me from my supposed tracks.
"You ... did you just come out from this room?"
My body stiffened as hard as a rock.
I breathed in and out like a dying fish. I was busted?!
Grinning nervously, I hardly kept my smile to act as harmless as possible to avoid such compulsion from trespassing to someone's property.
Please, please, please ... spare me! I didn't mean it!
But the corner of my lips fell straight down as I as came face to face with the person who was towering me.
"How bold of this insect..."
