If Ellen was passing through a street and some random guy would pin her against the wall, tempting her to utter one word, how would she react? In these types of situations, she would wear a cloak of valour and hold an umbrella above her head, an umbrella made of audacity, just to pretend that she wasn't a cowardly cat to scare by a stray dog barking in the street. She would readily switch into a defensive mode, spatting a train of words at the boy, appearing strong girl, however, inside she might be trembling like a cat shivering under clouds lightening.
Yet surrounded by intimate warm-lit lights in the restaurant, she couldn't say a word before the guy who looked like undressing her with his sharp gaze. First, he wasn't a random passing by her. Second, he wasn't a stranger. Though she didn't know much about him, well she didn't know anything except the boy's name in the first place, she still didn't think of him as a stranger. Something about his controlling voice and fixed gaze created a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach. Something about his dominant voice, showing authoritative tendencies, blending with the dim wall lights giving rise to the temperature within the walls of the hall. Something that made her bite the left inner cheek and tapped the shoe across the floor in a gentle manner, she had messed up.
Their current positions made it look like the boy was shutting up his girlfriend by capturing her lips. Their closed proximity, grim leaned dangerously closed to her face, everybody only getting to see the boy's back, no doubt why it was exhibiting a couple in a sweet, intimate relationship.
After a few seconds of standing there, grim specifically waiting for his little fawn to add something to her previous sentence, which she didn't, he slipped his hand in the pocket of his pants and took a black card out.
"Deduct the amount", handing the card to the waiter, he turned around. The moment Ellen saw a black card stick in between grim's fingers, her eyes widened in surprise.
'This thickhead is filthy rich!', from the instant, the card was swiped in the machine for deducting the bill to the second it was given back to grim, her eyes remained glued to it.
"Thank you, Sir. I hope you enjoyed the meal. We are looking forward to having you and your girlfriend here, again", at least grim was confident that there was no coming back. They wouldn't need to since he would've finished his task. When the waiter saw the black card, he was a little taken back. Girlfriend of a billionaire and yelling for such a small amount? Well, it was because she wasn't his girlfriend.
Not acknowledging the waiter's warm welcoming words, grim pushed the card back into the pocket and began walking towards the exit, giving off a young cold billionaire aura. What was he supposed to say back? 'Sure, we will' or smiled at the waiter? Would they invite him in even if he was a beggar asking for food? Outspokenly no.
Humans were greedy beings, living in money-oriented societies, attracted towards those who had money to shove into their throats. It was said that they were unique and superior to all the creations because they had emotions, would feel the pain of another human, offer a shoulder and share the sorrows, bestowed with an ability to distinguish between bad and good but for grim that all was bullshit.
What was the use of those emotions when they were only hurting the harmless ones? Those shoulders were given to them carry the weight of their doings, not to offer them in a charity to those who needed comfort. Feeling the pain of poor and depressed ones had only become a dream of the twenty-first century. What was the point of giving them the right to choose out of the two paths when most of them were falling for the dark, steeper path? Above all this, they thought of themselves as some superior beings. Disgusting lowlives.
Ellen quickly grabbed her bag from the chair and ran after grim. When she stepped out, grim was already in the driver's seat. She also got inside. The ride to the house was quiet. Grim wasn't angry at the little fawn, neither irritated by her. He was only contemplating hard on why and how was he giving in to his needs? Ellen was just like all other mortals. And that was where the restless and keyed-up thoughts started to form.
She was not like other mortals. Where other mortals had sealed their mouths just at one gaze of grim, she would talk back continuously. Mortals would shamelessly display their bodies to him, ask for his phone number, the little fawn argued with him for texting her. He had only seen the girl covered from head to toe. Where nobody had raised their voice at him, she had the unmatched audaciousness to not just yell at him but call him names as well.
He had never felt the need to kiss a mortal before. And as time was passing, he was losing control over himself. He was holding back one for his pride and two, for the girl that he hadn't admit openly to himself yet. Him letting a mortal taste his lips? Sounded rubbish to his ears. Nevertheless, it was of something else. Something he also didn't know what.
"You should've told me that you were going to pay", when the car stopped in front of her house, she decided to break the ice.
"Did I say that you would pay?", and she was quiet again. The normal Ellen would come back at him. She was still normal, only one thought bothering her.
"Do you want to sleep in my car or house?", when she wasn't getting off, grim turned his face and saw the girl playing with her fingers.
"I'm just thinking about something", not bothered by his words, she started fumbling with the strap of her bag. Grim watched the girl closely. She seemed to think about something really important. He didn't want to ask her what as it would make it look like he was curious which he certainly was, yet, he kept staring at her until she spoke again.
"We should've asked them to pack the leftovers", the girl sighed, her shoulder finally relaxing after letting out what had taken over her thoughts.
Grim was speechless. She looked as if she had lost something expensive but the bothered, troubled face was for...food!
"I didn't know you were a food lover, little fawn", what else could he say. He was utterly speechless.
"Yeah, food tastes delicious. Besides you paid for it. We shouldn't have let it get wasted", it was the other side of Ellen, thoughtful. She never cared about anything grim did but personally knowing how hard it was to earn the money, she felt bad for him spending those hard-earned dollars on her stomach. Only if she knew that those dollars weren't hard-earned.
"But I've tasted things better than food", soft lips replaced the previous view in grim's eyes. The silence bolding his unwavering gaze was making Ellen uncomfortable.
"Want to know, little fawn?", he asked unbelting his seatbelt. But this time he was only teasing the girl.
"I'm not up for your nonsense again. Nothing tastes better than food", rolling eyes at grim, she opened the door after unfastening the seatbelt and got out.
"If you're ever interested, just let me know", grim stuck his head out of the window and yelled enough loud for the girl to be heard.
The girl shook her head and got inside the house. What could be tasting better than food? Ice cream? But it could also be categorized as food, a sweet dessert. Grim was only making fool of her again.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when her eyes fell on a pager laid on the doorstep. Picking it up from the floor, she turned it around and saw a drawing.
A drawing of a cliff illustrating a large green patch of grass on its top.
