"Hah… Hah…"
Jay wasn't sure how many times he had exercised or studied in his past life but it was certainly not enough to make him used to this kind of abnormal punishment.
"What… Happened… To the… Eighth Amendment?"
'This is another world they don't have all the same Amendments'
"Hey! No dilly-dallying!"
Jay could hardly hear Ace's shout over his heavy breathing and pounding head. People of this world have stronger bodies because of their abilities and a large majority of people work out to increase their proficiency. Jay learned these kinds of things because today was a study day. He would be quizzed on his knowledge and would read all sorts of books while writing the main important details down in a summary. Every question Jay answered wrong would equal a one-hundred meter timed sprint. Despite Jay's lack of any sort of general knowledge of the world Ace was actually a good teacher so it was certainly helpful in finding out more about this world.
This world is called Everik. It is one of the many planets in the solar system that orbit around their own sun. Elis is this planet's personal sun. The exact number of planets is 41; most have either a personal sun or like a mini solar system they orbit around. People of this world have made it to a few other planets but they found nothing notable so far. Everik was once like Earth until a meteorite hit and spread a type of bacteria that transformed whatever it touched, this was how monsters were created and Paramount. Paramount was the first ever person to encounter this bacteria and gain an ability. They were a hero destroying the monsters and teaching about the abilities. Some say Paramount's ability was immortality and they had talked to the gods. Paramount killed Ecstasy, the greatest monster to have lived, but disappeared soon after. No one knows who Paramount is; they only know he disappeared centuries ago. After Paramount disappeared others with abilities popped up until everyone had an ability. The world changed a whole lot after the abilities were discovered. The abilities were given the name 'Talents' after the organization. The organization was made by some of the first heroes uniting now the organization is like Earth's government. The organization's purpose is to eliminate monsters and villains. The villains are people who use their Talent for evil. One of the main villain organizations is Evermore. No one knows the full extent of the organization nor what their goal is. Talents can be all kinds of things like a superpower or a natural affinity for piano. Since they vary so greatly people end up with all sorts of careers revolving around their ability. There are also rare occasions when people have multiple awakens. When a person has their second awakening it is usually because of extremely strong feelings. These feelings can be good or bad, their newly-awakened ability is something that solves their feelings. The example Ace gave was Copycat, a villain who double awokens with the ability to copy others' appearances out of jealousy for those with better looks and lives. She was caught eventually, but that was a keen example of the second awakened Talent solving her jealousy. The reason double-awakenings are considered so rare is because everyone is born with the first Talent but only four out of one-hundred double-awaken. The chances of someone triple-awakening is one in a thousand and the more awakens the lower the chances get. Another way people can double-awaken is by worshipping a god and having the god grant their wish. Not many succeed in having their wish granted so it's not a well used route. Since not many awaken more than once, many people take monsters and train them to make up for their shortcomings. A prime example of this is the award winning duet. The duet consists of a pianist and a violinist. The pianist had a natural affinity to the piano thanks to his ability and the violinist was a trained Mashu. Which is basically a chimpanzee mixed with a flamingo, their pretty odd looking. In anycase people train monsters to be companions, side-kicks, accompaniments, etc. People who train monsters for others are called 'trainers'. This is a majority of what I've learned with Ace's teachings.
"Pop-quiz! What does a Mashu look like?!"
"A chimpanzee and a flamingo!"
"What was Copycat's second Talent?!"
"Copy appearance!"
"What are two ways to awken multiple times?!"
"Number one is having strong emotions! Number two is having a god grant your wish!"
"Good now let's go eat lunch."
Jay sighed a sense of relief, oblivious to the fact the next day would be even harder.
